Job 8
1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
Alors Bildad, de Shuach, prit la parole, et dit:
2 How long wilt thou speak these [things]? and [how long shall] the words of thy mouth [be like] a strong wind?
Jusques à quand parleras-tu ainsi, et les paroles de ta bouche ressembleront-elles à un vent impétueux?
3 Doth God pervert judgment; or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
Dieu ferait-il fléchir le droit, le Tout-Puissant ferait-il fléchir la justice?
4 If thy children have sinned against him, and he hath cast them away for their transgression;
Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a livrés à leur crime.
5 If thou wouldst seek to God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
Mais toi, si tu cherches Dieu, et si tu demandes grâce au Tout-Puissant,
6 If thou [wert] pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
Si tu es pur et droit, il veillera certainement sur toi; il restaurera la demeure de ta justice;
7 Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end would greatly increase.
Tes commencements auront été peu de chose, et ta fin sera très grande.
8 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
Interroge, en effet, les générations précédentes, et fais attention aux recherches de leurs pères;
9 (For we [are but of] yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth [are] a shadow: )
Car nous sommes d'hier et nous ne savons rien; car nos jours sur la terre sont comme une ombre;
10 Will they not teach thee, [and] tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
Mais eux, ne t'enseigneront-ils pas, ne te parleront-ils pas, ne tireront-ils pas de leur cœur ces discours:
11 Can the rush grow without mire? can the flag grow without water?
Le roseau croît-il hors des marais, et le jonc pousse-t-il sans eau?
12 Whilst it [is] yet in its greenness, [and] not cut down, it withereth before any [other] herb.
Il est encore en sa verdure, on ne le coupe pas, et avant toutes les herbes, il est desséché.
13 So [are] the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
Telle est la destinée de tous ceux qui oublient Dieu: l'espérance de l'impie périra.
14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust [shall be] a spider's web.
Sa confiance sera trompée, et sa sécurité deviendra une toile d'araignée;
15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
Il s'appuiera sur sa maison, et elle ne tiendra pas; il s'y cramponnera, et elle ne restera pas debout.
16 He [is] green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.
Il est plein de vigueur, exposé au soleil, et ses jets poussent par-dessus son jardin;
17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, [and] seeth the place of stones.
Mais ses racines s'entrelacent sur des monceaux de pierres, il rencontre un sol de rochers,
18 If he shall destroy him from his place, then [it] shall deny him, [saying], I have not seen thee.
Et si on l'enlève de sa place, celle-ci le renie et lui dit: Je ne t'ai point connu!
19 Behold, this [is] the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
Telle est la joie qu'il a de sa conduite, et d'autres après lui s'élèveront de la poussière.
20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect [man], neither will he help the evil doers:
C'est ainsi que Dieu ne rejette pas l'homme intègre, mais il ne donne pas la main aux méchants.
21 Till he shall fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.
Il remplira encore ta bouche de joie, et tes lèvres de chants d'allégresse.
22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to naught.
Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et la tente des méchants ne sera plus!
