2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, selon la promesse de vie, qui est dans le Christ Jésus;
2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
À Timothée, son fils bien-aimé, grâce, miséricorde, paix par Dieu le Père et par le Christ Jésus Notre Seigneur.
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
Je rends grâces à Dieu, qu’à l’exemple de mes ancêtres, je sers avec une conscience pure, de ce que, nuit et jour, je fais
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
Désirant, au souvenir de tes larmes, te voir, pour être rempli de joie;
5 When I call to remembrance the sincere faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that is in thee also.
Rappelant en ma mémoire cette foi non feinte, qui est en toi, et qui a été premièrement dans ton aïeule Loïde, et dans ta mère Eunice, et qui, j’en ai la certitude, est aussi en toi.
6 For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the laying on of my hands.
C’est pourquoi je t’engage à ranimer la grâce de Dieu, qui est en toi par l’imposition de mes mains.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de crainte, mais de force, d’amour et de modération.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Ne rougis donc point du témoignage de Noire Seigneur, ni de moi son captif; mais prends part aux travaux de l’Evangile, selon la puissance de Dieu,
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began, (aiōnios g166)
Qui nous a délivrés, et nous a appelés par sa vocation sainte, non selon nos œuvres, mais selon son décret et la grâce qui nous a été donnée dans le Christ Jésus avant le commencement des siècles, (aiōnios g166)
10 But has now been revealed by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
Et qui a été manifestée maintenant par l’apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ qui a détruit la mort, et fait luire la vie et l’incorruptibilité par l’Evangile.
11 To which I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
C’est pourquoi j’ai été établi moi-même prédicateur, apôtre et maître des nations.
12 For which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him until that day.
Et c’est pour cela aussi que j’endure ces souffrances; mais je n’en rougis point. Car je sais à qui je me suis confié, et je suis sûr qu’il est puissant pour garder mon dépôt jusqu’à ce jour.
13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
Prends pour modèle les saines paroles que tu as entendues de moi dans la foi et l’amour qui est en Jésus-Christ.
14 That good thing which was committed to thee keep by the Holy Spirit who dwelleth in us.
Conserve le précieux dépôt, par l’Esprit-Saint qui habite eu nous.
15 This thou knowest, that all they who are in Asia are turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m’ont abandonné; de ce nombre sont Phigelle et Hermogène.
16 The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
Que le Seigneur répande sa miséricorde sur la maison d’Onésiphore, parce qu’il m’a souvent soulagé, et qui] n’a point rougi de mes chaînes;
17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
Mais que, lorsqu’il est venu à Rome, il m’a cherché avec beaucoup de soin, et m’a trouvé.
18 The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
Que le Seigneur lui donne de trouver miséricorde devant lui en ce jour. Car combien de services ne m’a-t-il pas rendus à Ephèse? Tu le sais parfaitement.
