1 Timothy 6
1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed.
Que tous les serviteurs qui sont sous le joug estiment leurs maîtres dignes de tout honneur, afin que le nom du Seigneur et la doctrine ne soient pas blasphémés.
2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
Que ceux qui ont des maîtres fidèles ne les méprisent point, parce qu’ils sont leurs frères; mais plutôt qu’ils les servent, parce qu’ils sont fidèles et chéris, participants du même bienfait. Enseigne ces choses et exhortes-y.
3 If any man teacheth otherwise, and agreeth not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the doctrine which is according to godliness;
Si quelqu’un enseigne autrement, et n’acquiesce point aux saines paroles de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et à la doctrine qui est selon la piété,
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, from which cometh envy, strife, railings, evil suspicions,
C’est un orgueilleux, qui ne sait rien; mais qui languit sur des questions et des disputes de mots, d’où naissent les jalousies, les contestations, les diffamations, les mauvais soupçons,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Les querelles d’hommes corrompus d’esprit, et qui sont privés de la vérité, estimant que la piété est un moyen de gain.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
C’est, en effet, un grand gain que la piété avec ce qui suffit.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
Car nous n’avons rien apporté en ce monde; et nui doute que nous ne pouvons rien en emporter.
8 And having food and raiment with these let us be content.
Ayant donc la nourriture et le vêtement, contentons-nous-en;
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Parce que ceux qui veulent devenir riches, tombent dans la tentation et dans les filets du diable, et dans beaucoup de désirs inutiles et nuisibles, qui plongent les hommes dans la ruine et la perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some have coveted, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Car la racine de tous les maux est la cupidité; aussi, quelques-uns y ayant cédé, ont dévié de la foi, et se sont engagés dans beaucoup de chagrins.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee from these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Pour toi, homme de Dieu, fuis ces choses, et recherche la justice, la piété, la foi, la charité, la patience, la douceur.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (aiōnios g166)
Combats le bon combat de la foi; remporte la vie éternelle, à laquelle tu as été appelé, ayant si glorieusement confessé la foi devant un grand nombre de témoins. (aiōnios g166)
13 I command thee in the sight of God, who maketh alive all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
Je t’ordonne devant Dieu, qui vivifie toutes choses, et devant le Christ Jésus, qui a rendu sous Ponce-Pilate témoignage à sa divine prédication,
14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
De garder ces préceptes, en te conservant sans tache, irréprochable, jusqu’à l’avènement de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,
15 Who in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
Que manifestera en son temps le bienheureux et seul puissant, le Roi des rois, et le Seigneur des seigneurs,
16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. (aiōnios g166)
Qui seul possède l’immortalité, et qui habite une lumière inaccessible; qu’aucun homme n’a vu, ni ne peut voir; à qui honneur et empire éternel! Amen. (aiōnios g166)
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (aiōn g165)
Ordonne aux riches de ce siècle de ne point s’élever d’orgueil, de ne point se confier en des richesses incertaines, mais dans le Dieu vivant (qui nous donne abondamment toutes choses pour en jouir); (aiōn g165)
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to share;
De faire le bien, de devenir riches en bonnes œuvres, de donner de bon cœur, de partager,
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
De se faire un trésor qui soit un bon fondement pour l’avenir, afin d’acquérir la véritable vie.
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
Ô Timothée, conserve le dépôt, évitant les nouveautés profanes de paroles, et les oppositions de la science, faussement nommée,
21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. The first to Timothy was written from Laodicea, which is the chiefest city of Phrygia Pacatiana.
Dont quelques-uns, faisant profession, sont déchus de la foi. Que la grâce soit avec toi. Amen.
