Philippians 1
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:
Paulus und Timotheus, Knechte Jesu Christi an alle Heiligen in Christi Jesu zu Philippi, samt Vorständen und Diakonen,
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Gnade euch, und Friede von Gott unserem Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.
3 I give thanks to my God every time I remember you,
Ich danke meinem Gott, sooft ich euer Gedenke,
4 always praying with joy in every one of my prayers for you all
Was ich allezeit tue in jeglichem Gebet für euch und alle, und mit Freuden bete ich
5 because of your partnership with me in the gospel from the first day until now.
Über eurer Gemeinschaft am Evangelium von ersten Tage an bis heute;
6 I am confident that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Indem ich der Zuversicht bin, daß, Der in euch das gute Werk angefangen hat, es auch vollführen wird bis zum Tage Jesu Christi.
7 It is right for me to think this way about you all, since I have you in my heart. For you all share with me in God's grace, both in my imprisonment and in my defense and confirmation of the gospel.
Wie es denn recht und billig ist, daß ich so von euch allen denke, weil ich euch im Herzen trage, in meinen Banden und bei der Verteidigung und Bestätigung des Evangeliums, als die ihr alle mit mir der Gnade teilhaftig seid.
8 For God is my witness that I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.
Denn Gott ist mein Zeuge, wie sehr mich nach euch allen verlangt in der innigen Liebe Jesu Christi.
9 And I pray that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
Und darum bete ich, daß eure Liebe mehr und mehr reich werde an aller Erkenntnis und Einsicht.
10 so that you may approve what is excellent in order to be pure and blameless in the day of Christ,
Daß ihr prüfen möget, was recht und unrecht ist, auf daß ihr lauter und unanstößig seid auf den Tag von Christus,
11 filled with the fruits of righteousness that come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Erfüllt mit Früchten der Gerechtigkeit, durch Jesus Christus, zur Ehre und zum Lobe Gottes.
12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually helped advance the gospel,
Ich tue euch aber zu wissen, Brüder, daß, was mit mir geschehen ist, nur mehr zur Förderung des Evangeliums geraten ist.
13 so that it has become known among the entire imperial guard and to everyone else that my imprisonment is for Christ.
Also daß meine Bande offenbar geworden sind in Christus im ganzen Prätorium und sonst überall,
14 And the greater part of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence through my imprisonment and are far more bold to speak the word without fear.
Und die meisten Brüder in dem Herrn durch meine Bande Zuversicht gewonnen und desto kühner geworden sind, furchtlos das Wort zu verkünden.
15 Some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others do it out of good will.
Zwar gibt es auch einige, die Christus des Neides und Streites wegen verkünden, andere aber auch tun es aus guter Meinung.
16 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but intending to add affliction to me in my imprisonment.
Die es aus Liebe tun, wissen, daß ich um des Evangeliums willen zur Verantwortung da bin.
17 The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.
Die es aus Streitsucht tun, verkündigen Christus in unlauterer Absicht, um mich in meinen Banden in Trübsal zu bringen.
18 But what does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice.
Was tut es aber, wenn nur jedenfalls, sei es aus Heuchelei oder in Wahrheit, Christus verkündigt wird; und darüber freue ich mich und werde mich freuen.
19 For I know that this will result in my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
Denn ich weiß, daß mir dies durch euer Gebet und den Beistand des Geistes Jesu Christi zum Heile gereichen wird.
20 My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be put to shame in anything, but will speak with complete boldness so that now, as always, Christ will be magnified in my body, whether I live or die.
Nach meiner Zuversicht und Hoffnung, daß ich in keinerlei Stück zuschanden werde, und daß mit aller Freimütigkeit, wie immer, so auch jetzt Christus verherrlicht werden soll an meinem Leibe, sei es im Leben oder durch den Tod.
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Denn Christus ist mein Leben, und Sterben ist mein Gewinn.
22 But if I am to live in the flesh, it will mean fruit from my labor. Yet I do not know which I prefer.
Wenn aber im Fleische leben dazu dient, meinem Werk Frucht zu bringen, so weiß ich nicht, was ich wählen soll.
23 I am hard pressed between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
Denn es drängt mich von beiden Seiten, ich habe Lust abzuscheiden und bei Christus zu sein; was auch viel besser für mich wäre.
24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
Aber es ist notwendiger euretwegen, daß ich im Fleische bleibe.
25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for the sake of your progress and joy in the faith,
Und soviel weiß ich mit Zuversicht, daß ich bleiben und bei euch allen verbleiben werde, zu eurer Förderung und Freudigkeit im Glauben;
26 so that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus because of me when I come to you again.
Damit ihr euch, so ich wieder zu euch komme, in Jesus Christus an mir rühmen möget.
27 Only live as citizens in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear that you are standing firm in one spirit, striving together with one mind for the faith of the gospel,
So wandelt nur würdig des Evangeliums Christi, auf daß, ob ich komme und euch sehe, oder abwesend von euch höre, ihr fest steht in einem Geiste und einem Sinn, und samt uns kämpft für den Glauben an das Evangelium.
28 and not being intimidated in any way by those who oppose you. For them this is an indication of destruction, but for you it is an indication of salvation, and that from God.
Und euch in keinem Stück abschrecken lasset von den Widersachern, was für sie zum Verderben, euch aber zum Heile dient, und das von Gott aus.
29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,
Denn euch ward vergönnt um Christus willen, nicht allein an Ihn zu glauben, sondern auch um Seinetwillen zu leiden;
30 since you are experiencing the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.
Und habt denselben Kampf, wie ihr ihn an mir gesehen habt und nun von mir hört.
