John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Au commencement était la Parole; et la Parole était avec Dieu; et la Parole était Dieu.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
Cette Parole était au commencement avec Dieu.
3 All things were made through him, and nothing that was made was made without him.
Toutes choses sont nées par elle, et absolument rien de ce qui existe n'a pris naissance sans elle.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
En elle il y avait vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Et la lumière éclaire dans les ténèbres; et les ténèbres ne l'ont pas acceptée.
6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
Il a paru un homme, envoyé de la part de Dieu; il s'appelait Jean;
7 He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.
cet homme est venu pour être témoin. Il est venu témoigner en faveur de la lumière, pour que tous devinssent croyants par lui.
8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify about the light.
Il n'était pas lui-même la lumière; mais il était là pour témoigner en faveur de la lumière.
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
Elle existait, cette parfaite lumière qui éclaire tout homme venant au monde.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, but the world did not know him.
Elle existait dans le monde; et le monde avait pris naissance par elle et le monde ne l'avait pas connue.
11 He came to his own, but his own people did not receive him.
Elle est venue dans sa propre demeure, et les siens ne l'ont pas accueillie;
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
mais à tous ceux qui l'ont accueillie, elle a accordé le privilège de devenir enfants de Dieu; elle l'a accordé à ceux qui ont cru en son nom.
13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Ceux-là ne sont pas nés au sens physique par la volonté de la chair et de l'homme, mais ils sont nés de Dieu.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Oui, la Parole est devenue chair, et elle a dressé sa tente au milieu de nous, et nous avons contemplé sa gloire, la gloire parfaite d'un Fils unique envoyé par son Père, tout rempli de grâce et de vérité.
15 John testified about him and cried out, “This is he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
Jean lui rend son témoignage dans ce cri qu'il a jeté: «C'était de lui que je disais: Celui qui doit venir après moi, m'a devancé, parce qu'il a été avant moi.»
16 Of his fullness we have all received, even grace upon grace.
En effet, de sa plénitude nous avons tous reçu, et grâce après grâce.
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Car la Loi a été donnée par Moïse; la grâce et la vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.
18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
Personne n'a jamais vu Dieu; le Fils unique qui est dans le sein du Père, voilà celui qui l'a expliqué.
19 This was the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are yoʋ?”
Voici quel fut le témoignage de Jean lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites lui poser cette question: «Qui es-tu?»
20 He did not refuse to answer, but openly declared, “I am not the Christ.”
Il s'expliqua formellement et sans réserve; il s'expliqua ainsi: «Je ne suis pas, moi, le Christ.» —
21 So they asked him, “What then? Are yoʋ Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are yoʋ the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
«Qui donc?» lui demandèrent-ils alors. «Serais-tu Élie?» — Il répondit: «Je ne le suis pas.» — «Es-tu le Prophète?» — Et il répondit: «Non.» —
22 So they said to him, “Who are yoʋ? Tell us so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do yoʋ say about yoʋrself?”
Ils lui dirent alors: «Qui es-tu? pour que nous rendions réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu de toi-même?» —
23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
«Moi, répondit-il, je suis «Une voix qui crie dans le désert: Aplanissez la voie du Seigneur comme l'a dit le prophète Ésaïe.»
24 (Now those who had been sent were from the Pharisees.)
Les envoyés étaient des Pharisiens.
25 Then they asked him, “Why then do yoʋ baptize if yoʋ are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
Ils continuèrent à l'interroger: «Pourquoi donc, lui dirent-ils, baptises-tu, si tu n'es ni le Christ, ni Élie, ni le Prophète?»
26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands someone you do not know.
La réponse de Jean fut celle-ci: «Moi, je baptise avec l'eau; mais, au milieu de vous, se tient quelqu'un que vous ne connaissez pas.
27 He is the one who comes after me, who ranks ahead of me, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
C'est celui qui doit venir après moi; je ne suis pas digne de défier la courroie de sa sandale!»
28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Ceci se passait à Béthanie, au delà du Jourdain, là où Jean baptisait.
29 On the next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Le lendemain, Jean voit Jésus qui s'avance vers lui, et il dit: «Voici l'agneau de Dieu qui ôte le péché du monde!
30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’
c'est de lui que j'ai dit: «Après moi vient un homme qui m'a devancé, parce qu'il a été avant moi.»
31 I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”
Moi, je ne le connaissais pas, mais c'est pour qu'il fût manifesté à Israël que je suis venu baptiser avec l'eau»
32 Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained upon him.
Jean rendit encore ce témoignage: «J'ai vu, dit-il, l'Esprit descendre du ciel sous la figure d'une colombe et demeurer sur lui.
33 I myself did not recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He upon whom yoʋ see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
Moi, je ne le connaissais pas, mais celui qui m'a envoyé baptiser avec l'eau m'a dit lui-même: «C'est l'homme sur lequel tu verras l'Esprit descendre et demeurer, qui baptise avec l'Esprit saint.»
34 And I have seen it and can testify that this is the Son of God.”
Or je l'ai vu et j'ai rendu ce témoignage: «C'est lui qui est le Fils de Dieu.»
35 On the next day John was again standing with two of his disciples.
Le lendemain Jean était de nouveau au même endroit avec deux de ses disciples
36 As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”
et, arrêtant son regard sur Jésus qui passait, il dit: «Voici l'agneau de Dieu!»
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
Les deux disciples entendirent ces paroles et suivirent Jésus.
38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following him and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are yoʋ staying?”
Celui-ci, s'étant retourné et s'étant aperçu qu'ils le suivaient, leur dit: «Qui cherchez-vous?» — Ils lui répondirent: «Rabbi (ce mot veut dire: maître), où demeures-tu?» —
39 He said to them, “Come and see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and stayed with him that day; it was about the tenth hour.
«Venez, leur dit-il, et vous le verrez.» Alors ils allèrent avec lui, virent où il demeurait et restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là; c'était vers la dixième heure.
40 Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard this from John and followed Jesus.
André, le frère de Simon Pierre, était l'un de ces deux qui, sur le mot de Jean, s'étaient mis à suivre Jésus.
41 Andrew first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”),
Il fut le premier à trouver son propre frère Simon et lui dit: «Nous avons trouvé le Messie (ce mot se traduit: Christ).»
42 and he brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “Yoʋ are Simon the son of Jonah; yoʋ shall be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”).
Il l'amena à Jésus qui, arrêtant sur lui son regard, lui dit: «Tu es Simon, le fils de Jean, tu seras appelé Képhas (ce qui veut dire Pierre).»
43 On the next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
Le lendemain, Jésus résolut de partir pour la Galilée. Il trouva Philippe et lui dit: «Suis-moi!»
44 (Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.)
Philippe était de Bethsaida, de la même ville qu'André et Pierre.
45 Philip then found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and of whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Il trouva Nathanaël et lui dit: «Celui dont a parlé Moïse dans «la Loin, dont ont parlé «les Prophètes», nous l'avons trouvé! C'est Jésus de Nazareth, le fils de Joseph.»
46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Nathanaël lui répondit: «Peut-il venir quelque chose de bon de Nazareth?» — «Viens et vois», lui répliqua Philippe.
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit.”
Apercevant Nathanaël qui s'avançait vers lui, Jésus dit de lui: «Voici un véritable Israélite, un homme qui est sans fraude!» —
48 Nathanael said to him, “How do yoʋ know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called yoʋ, when yoʋ were under the fig tree, I saw yoʋ.”
«D'où me connais-tu?» lui demanda Nathanaël. Jésus lui répondit, par ces paroles: «Avant que Philippe t'appelât, quand tu étais sous le figuier, je t'ai vu.» —
49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, yoʋ are the Son of God! Yoʋ are the king of Israel!”
«Rabbi, répliqua Nathanaël, tu es le Fils de Dieu! tu es le Roi d'Israël!»
50 Jesus answered him, “Do yoʋ believe because I said to yoʋ, ‘I saw yoʋ under the fig tree’? Yoʋ will see greater things than these.”
Jésus reprit en ces termes: «Parce que je t'ai dit que je t'ai vu sous le figuier, voilà que tu crois! Tu verras de plus grandes choses que celles-là.»
51 Then he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before long you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
Et il ajouta: «En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez le ciel ouvert et les anges de Dieu montant et descendant sur le Fils de l'homme.»
