Hebrews 2
1 Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
Voilà pourquoi nous devons apporter une attention toute spéciale à ce que nous avons entendu, pour ne pas le perdre par notre négligence.
2 For if the message spoken through angels was valid and every transgression and disobedience received a just retribution,
Si, en effet, la parole apportée par des anges a reçu sa sanction, si toute transgression et toute désobéissance ont été punies comme elles le méritaient,
3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
comment échapperions-nous si nous négligions un si grand salut, salut qui d'abord fut annoncé par le Seigneur, et qui nous fut ensuite confirmé par ceux qui l'avaient entendu de lui,
4 God also bore further witness with signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
et dont Dieu appuyait le témoignage par des signes, des prodiges, toutes sortes de miracles et par son Esprit saint qu'il répartissait selon sa volonté?
5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
car ce n'est pas aux anges qu'il a soumis le monde à venir dont nous parlons.
6 But in one place someone has testified: “What is man that yoʋ are mindful of him, or the son of man that yoʋ care for him?
On lit quelque part cette déclaration: «Qu'est-ce que l'Homme que tu te souviennes de lui? Ou le Fils de l'homme que tu t'en occupes?
7 Yoʋ made him a little lower than the angels and crowned him with glory and honor;
Tu l'as mis pour quelque temps au-dessous des anges, Tu l'as couronné de gloire et d'honneur,
8 yoʋ put everything in subjection under his feet.” In subjecting everything to him, God left nothing that is not subjected to him. But now we do not yet see everything subjected to him.
Tu as tout mis sous ses pieds!» Ce terme: «tu lui as tout soumis» indique que Dieu n'a rien laissé en dehors de son pouvoir. Cependant nous ne voyons pas encore que «tout lui soit soumis».
9 But we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Nous voyons seulement que Jésus «mis pour quelque temps au-dessous des anges» a été, à cause de ses souffrances et de sa mort, «couronné de gloire et d'honneur». C'était par une grâce de Dieu, afin de subir la mort pour tous les hommes.
10 For in bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.
Il était digne, en effet, de Celui par lequel et à cause duquel tout a été créé, de Celui qui voulait conduire à la gloire un grand nombre de fils, d'élever par des souffrances jusqu'à la perfection l'auteur de leur salut.
11 For he who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified all have one Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers,
Tous, et celui qui sanctifie et ceux qui sont sanctifiés, ont un même Père; voilà pourquoi Jésus ne dédaigne pas d'appeler ceux-ci ses «frères»
12 saying, “I will declare yoʋr name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing yoʋr praise.”
quand il dit: «J’annoncerai ton nom à mes frères; Au milieu de l'assemblée, je te louerai.»
13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Here I am, with the children God has given me.”
Et ailleurs: «Je mettrai ma confiance en lui». Ailleurs encore: «Me voici, moi et les enfants que Dieu m'a donnés»,
14 Therefore, since the children all have flesh and blood, Jesus himself took on flesh and blood as well, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Puisque les «enfants» ont tous en partage la chair et le sang, lui en a eu aussi sa part pour détruire par sa mort celui qui est le maître de la mort, je veux dire le Diable,
15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death.
et pour délivrer ceux que la crainte de la mort rendait esclaves toute leur vie.
16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but the descendants of Abraham.
Car assurément ce n'est pas aux anges qu'il porte secours, c'est à la race d'Abraham.
17 Therefore he had to become like his brothers in every way, so that he could be a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people.
Par suite, il le fallait entièrement semblable à «ses frères», afin d'être, pour leurs rapports avec Dieu, un grand-prêtre compatissant et digne de foi, pour faire l'expiation des péchés du peuple.
18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
C'est parce qu'il a souffert, c'est parce qu'il a été éprouvé qu'il peut secourir ceux qui sont éprouvés.
