Esther 1
1 And it was in [the] days of Ahasuerus that Ahasuerus who reigned from India and to Cush seven and twenty and one hundred province[s].
Et au temps d'Assuérus (cet Assuérus régnait de l'Inde à l'Éthiopie sur cent vingt-sept provinces),
2 In the days those when sat - the king Ahasuerus on [the] throne of royalty his which [was] in Susa the citadel.
comme le roi Assuérus était assis sur son trône royal dans Suse, la ville capitale,
3 In year three of reigning his he made a feast for all officials his and servants his [the] army of - Persia and Media the nobles and [the] officials of the provinces [were] before him.
la troisième année de son règne, il donna un festin à tous ses seigneurs et à ses serviteurs, aux généraux de Perse et de Médie, aux Grands et aux Princes des provinces, devant lui,
4 When showed he [the] wealth of [the] splendor of kingdom his and [the] honor of [the] glory of greatness his days many eighty and one hundred day[s].
en déployant l'opulence et la pompe de son empire et la riche magnificence de sa majesté, pendant nombre de jours, pendant cent quatre-vingts jours.
5 And when were completed - the days these he made the king for all the people who were found in Susa the citadel from great and unto insignificant a feast seven days in [the] court of [the] garden of [the] palace of the king.
Et quand ces jours furent passés, le roi donna à tout le peuple qui se trouvait dans Suse, la ville capitale, depuis le grand jusqu'au petit, un banquet de sept jours dans la cour du jardin de la demeure royale.
6 White material - cotton and violet material [was] held with cords of fine linen and purple on rods of silver and pillars of marble couches of - gold and silver on a pavement of porphyry and marble and mother-of-pearl and paving stone.
Des draperies de lin blanc et d'azur y étaient suspendues avec des cordons de byssus et de pourpre à des anneaux d'argent et à des colonnes de marbre; des divans d'or et d'argent couvraient un parquet d'albâtre et de marbre et de perles et d'écaille.
7 And they gave to drink in vessels of gold and vessels from vessels [were] differing and wine of royalty [was] much according to [the] hand of the king.
Et l'on versait à boire dans des vases d'or, et il y avait variété de vaisselle, et le vin royal en abondance, à la façon des rois.
8 And the drinking [was] according to the law there not [was one who] compelled for thus - he had appointed the king on every chief of house his to do according to [the] pleasure of man and man.
Et ordre était donné de ne point forcer à boire, car ainsi l'avait prescrit le roi à tous les grands officiers de sa maison, de faire selon le gré de chacun.
9 Also Vashti the queen she made a feast of women [the] house of royalty which [belonged] to the king Ahasuerus.
De son côté, la reine Vasthi donna un banquet de femmes dans la demeure royale du roi Assuérus.
10 On the day seventh when was good [the] heart of the king by the wine he said to Mehuman Biztha Harbona Bigtha and Abagtha Zethar and Carcas [the] seven the eunuchs who served with [the] face of the king Ahasuerus.
Le septième jour, comme le vin avait mis le cœur du roi en belle humeur, il ordonna à Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha et Abagtha, Zéther et Charcas, les sept eunuques qui étaient de service devant le roi Assuérus,
11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with a crown of royalty to show the peoples and the officials beauty her for [was] good of appearance she.
d'amener la reine Vasthi devant le roi, avec la couronne royale, pour faire voir sa beauté aux peuples et aux Grands, car elle avait une belle figure.
12 And she refused the queen Vashti to come at [the] word of the king which [was] by [the] hand of the eunuchs and he was angry the king exceedingly and rage his it burned in him.
Mais la reine Vasthi refusa de se rendre à l'ordre du roi, porté par les eunuques. Alors le roi fut fort irrité, et la colère bouillonnait au dedans de lui.
13 And he said the king to wise men [who] knew the times for [was] thus [the] manner of the king before all [those who] knew law and judgment.
Et le roi s'adressa aux sages qui avaient la connaissance des temps (car ainsi se traitaient les affaires du roi devant tous les jurisconsultes et hommes de loi;
14 And the [ones] close to him [were] Carshena Shethar Admatha Tarshish Meres Marsena Memucan [the] seven [the] officials of - Persia and Media [who] saw [the] face of the king who sat foremost in the kingdom.
et le plus près de lui étaient Charsena, Séthar, Admatha, Tharsis, Mérès, Marsena, Memuchan, les sept seigneurs de Perse et de Médie qui avaient la faculté de voir la face du roi et occupaient la première place dans le royaume):
15 According to [the] law what? [is] to do with the queen Vashti on - that not she did [the] command of the king Ahasuerus by [the] hand of the eunuchs.
Aux termes de la loi que faut-il faire à la reine Vasthi pour n'avoir pas exécuté l'ordre du roi Assuérus, porté par les eunuques?
16 And he said (Memucan *Q(k)*) before the king and the officials not on the king to only him she did wrong Vashti the queen for on all the officials and on all the peoples which [are] in all [the] provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
Alors Memuchan dit devant le roi et les Grands: Ce n'est pas au roi seul que la reine Vasthi a manqué, mais à tous les Grands et à toutes les populations de toutes les provinces du roi Assuérus.
17 For it will go forth [the] matter of the queen to all the women to make despicable husbands their in view their because will say they the king Ahasuerus he said to bring Vashti the queen before him and not she came.
Car l'acte de la reine se répandra chez toutes les femmes pour leur faire mépriser leurs maris, puisqu'elles diront: Le roi Assuérus a dit d'amener la reine Vasthi devant lui, et elle n'est pas venue.
18 And the day this they will say - [the] noble ladies of Persia and Media who they have heard [the] matter of the queen to all [the] officials of the king and [will be] as enough of contempt and anger.
Et aujourd'hui même les dames des Perses et des Mèdes, qui ont entendu la réponse de la reine, la répéteront à tous les Grands du roi, et il y aura assez de mépris et de colère.
19 If [is] on the king good let it go forth a word of royalty from to before him and let it be written in [the] laws of Persia and Media and not it will pass away that not she will come Vashti before the king Ahasuerus and queenhood her let him give the king to fellow woman her good more than she.
Si c'est l'agrément du roi, qu'il émane de lui une ordonnance royale, qui soit consignée dans les lois de Perse et de Médie pour ne pas se perdre: que Vasthi ne se présente plus devant le roi Assuérus, et que le roi confère sa qualité de reine à une autre, meilleure qu'elle.
20 And it will be heard [the] decree of the king which he will make in all kingdom his for [is] great it and all the women they will give honor to husbands their from great and unto insignificant.
Et l'ordonnance du roi qui sera portée dans tout son royaume, car il est grand, une fois entendue, toutes les femmes rendront honneur à leurs maris, du grand au petit.
21 And it was good the word in [the] eyes of the king and the officials and he did the king according to [the] word of Memucan.
Et la proposition plut au roi et aux Grands, et le roi fit ce que Memuchan avait proposé.
22 And he sent out documents to all [the] provinces of the king to province and province according to writing its and to people and people according to language its to be every man ruler in own household his and speaking according to [the] language of people his.
Et il expédia des lettres à toutes les provinces du roi, dans l'écriture de chaque province, et dans l'idiome de chaque peuple; elles portaient: que chaque mari devait être maître dans sa maison, et parlerait la langue de son peuple.
