Job 23
1 Then responded Job, and said: —
Mais Job répondit, et dit:
2 Even to-day, is my complaint rebellion? His hand, is heavier than my groaning.
Encore aujourd'hui ma plainte est pleine d'amertume, et la main qui m'a frappé s'appesantit [sur moi] au delà de mon gémissement.
3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! I would come even unto his dwelling-place;
Ô si je savais comment le trouver, j'irais jusqu'à son trône.
4 I would set out, before him, a plea, and, my mouth, would I fill with arguments;
J'exposerais mon droit devant lui, et je remplirais ma bouche de preuves.
5 I would note the words wherewith he would respond to me, and would mark what he would say to me.
Je saurais ce qu'il me répondrait, et j'entendrais ce qu'il me dirait.
6 Would he, with fulness of might, contend with me? Nay, surely, he, would give heed to me!
Contesterait-il avec moi par la grandeur de [sa] force? Non; seulement il proposerait contre moi [ses raisons].
7 There an upright man, might reason with him, so should I deliver myself completely from my judge.
C'est là qu'un homme droit raisonnerait avec lui, et que je me délivrerais pour jamais de mon juge.
8 Behold! eastward, I go, but he is not there, and, westward, but I perceive him not;
Voilà, si je vais en avant, il n'y est pas; si je vais en arrière, je ne l'y apercevrai point.
9 On the north, where he worketh, but I get no vision, He hideth himself on the south that I cannot see him.
S'il se fait entendre à gauche je ne puis le saisir; il se cache à droite, et je ne l'y vois point.
10 But, he, knoweth the way that I choose, Having tried me, as gold, I shall come forth.
[Mais] quand il aura connu le chemin que j'ai tenu, [et] qu'il m'aura éprouvé, je sortirai comme l'or [sort du creuset].
11 Of his steps, my foot taketh hold, His way, have I kept, and not swerved;
Mon pied s'est fixé sur ses pas; j'ai gardé son chemin, et je ne m'en suis point détourné.
12 The command of his lips, and would not go back, and, in my bosom, have I treasured the words of his lips.
Je ne me suis point aussi écarté du commandement de ses lèvres; j'ai serré les paroles de sa bouche, plus que ma provision ordinaire.
13 But, he, is one, and who can turn him? What his soul desired, he hath done.
Mais s'il [a fait] un [dessein], qui l'en détournera? et ce que son âme a désiré, il le fait.
14 Surely he will accomplish what is decreed for me, and, many such things, hath he in store.
Il achèvera donc ce qu'il a résolu sur mon sujet; et il y a en lui beaucoup de telles choses.
15 For this cause, from his presence, am I driven in fear, I diligently consider and am kept back from him in dread:
C'est pourquoi je suis troublé à cause de sa présence; et quand je le considère, je suis effrayé à cause de lui.
16 Yea, GOD, hath made timid my heart, and, the Almighty, hath put me in terror.
Car le [Dieu] Fort m'a fait fondre le cœur, et le Tout-puissant m'a étonné;
17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, nor, before my face, did the gloom form a shroud.
Cependant je n'ai pas été retranché de devant les ténèbres; et il a caché l'obscurité arrière de moi.
