Ecclesiastes 8
1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.
Quem é tal como o sabio? e quem sabe a interpretação das coisas? A sabedoria do homem allumia o seu rosto, e a aspereza do seu rosto se muda.
2 I [counsel thee], Keep the king’s command, and that in regard of the oath of God.
Eu digo: Observa o mandamento do rei, porém segundo a palavra do juramento que fizeste a Deus.
3 Be not hasty to go out of his presence; persist not in an evil thing: for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
Não te apresses a sair da presença d'elle, nem persistas em alguma coisa má, porque elle faz tudo o que quer.
4 Because the king’s word [hath] power; and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
Onde ha a palavra do rei, ahi está o poder; e quem lhe dirá: Que fazes?
5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall know no evil thing; and a wise man’s heart discerneth time and judgment:
Quem guardar o mandamento não experimentará nenhum mal; e o coração do sabio saberá o tempo e o modo
6 for to every purpose there is a time and judgment; because the misery of man is great upon him:
Porque para todo o proposito ha seu tempo e seu modo; porquanto o mal do homem é muito sobre elle.
7 for he knoweth not that which shall be; for who can tell him how it shall be?
Porque não sabe o que ha de succeder: e, quando haja de succeder, quem lh'o dará a entender?
8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power over the day of death; and there is no discharge in [that] war: neither shall wickedness deliver him that is given to it.
Nenhum homem ha que tenha dominio sobre o espirito, para reter o espirito; nem tão pouco tem elle poder sobre o dia da morte: como tambem nem armas n'esta peleja: nem tão pouco a impiedade livrará aos impios.
9 All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: [there is] a time wherein one man hath power over another to his hurt.
Tudo isto vi quando appliquei o meu coração a toda a obra que se faz debaixo do sol: tempo ha em que um homem tem dominio sobre outro homem, para desgraça sua.
10 And withal I saw the wicked buried, and they came [to the grave]; and they that had done right went away from the holy place, and were forgotten in the city: this also is vanity.
Assim tambem vi os impios sepultados, e os que vinham, e sahiam do logar sancto, que foram esquecidos na cidade em que fizeram bem: tambem isto é vaidade.
11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
Porquanto logo se não executa o juizo sobre a má obra, por isso o coração dos filhos dos homens está inteiramente disposto para obrar o mal.
12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and prolong his [days], yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Ainda que o peccador faça mal cem vezes, e os dias se lhe prolonguem, comtudo bem sei eu, que bem succede aos que temem a Deus, aos que temerem diante d'elle.
13 but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, [which are] as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
Porém ao impio não irá bem, e elle não prolongará os dias; será como a sombra; visto que elle não teme diante de Deus.
14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be righteous men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
Ainda ha outra vaidade que se faz sobre a terra: que ha justos a quem succede segundo as obras dos impios, e ha impios a quem succede segundo as obras dos justos. Digo que tambem isto é vaidade.
15 Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him in his labour [all] the days of his life which God hath given him under the sun.
Assim que louvei eu a alegria, porquanto o homem coisa nenhuma melhor tem debaixo do sol do que comer, beber e alegrar-se; porque isso o acompanhará no seu trabalho nos dias da sua vida que Deus lhe dá debaixo do sol.
16 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes: )
Applicando eu o meu coração a entender a sabedoria, e a ver a occupação que ha sobre a terra; que nem de dia nem de noite vê o homem somno nos seus olhos.
17 then I beheld all the work of God, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because however much a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea moreover, though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
Então vi toda a obra de Deus, que o homem não pode alcançar, a obra que se faz debaixo do sol, pela qual trabalha o homem para a buscar, porém não a achará; e, ainda que diga o sabio que a virá a saber, nem por isso a poderá alcançar.
