Psalms 78
1 A maskil of Asaph. My people, attend to my teaching: bend your ears to the words of my mouth,
Pieśń wyuczająca podana Asafowi. Słuchaj, ludu mój! zakonu mego; nakłońcież uszów swych do słów ust moich.
2 as I open my mouth in a poem on the riddling story of the past.
Otworzę w podobieństwie usta moje, a będę opowiadał przypowiastki starodawne.
3 What we have heard and known, and what our ancestors have told us,
Cośmy słyszeli, i poznali, i co nam ojcowie nasi opowiadali.
4 we will not hide from their children. We will tell to the next generation the praises and might of the Lord, and the wonders that he has done.
Nie zataimy tego przed synami ich, którzy przyszłym potomkom swoim opowiadać będą chwały Pańskie, i moc jego, i cuda jego, które uczynił.
5 He set up a testimony in Jacob, a law he appointed in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to make known to their children,
Bo wzbudził świadectwo w Jakóbie, a zakon wydał w Izraelu; przykazał ojcom naszym, aby to do wiadomości podawali synom swoim,
6 that the next generation should know it, that the children yet to be born should arise and tell their children;
Aby poznał wiek potomny, synowie, którzy się narodzić mieli, a oni zaś powstawszy, aby to opowiadali synom swoim;
7 that in God they might put their confidence, and not forget God’s works; but that they might keep his commandments,
Aby pokładali w Bogu nadzieję swoję, a nie zapominali na sprawy Boże, ale strzegli przykazań jego;
8 and not be like their ancestors, a generation defiant and stubborn, a generation with heart unsteady, and spirit unfaithful towards God.
Aby się nie stali jako ojcowie ich narodem odpornym i nieposłusznym, narodem, który nie wygotował serca swego, aby był wierny Bogu duch jego.
9 Ephraimites, armed bowmen, turned back in the day of battle.
Albo jako synowie Efraimowi zbrojni, którzy, choć umieli z łuku strzelać, wszakże w dzień wojny tył podali.
10 They did not keep God’s covenant, they refused to walk in his law.
Bo nie przestrzegali przymierza Bożego, a według zakonu jego zbraniali się chodzić.
11 They forgot what he had done, and the wonders he had shown them.
Zapomnieli na sprawy jego, i na dziwne dzieła jego, które im pokazywał.
12 He did wonders before their ancestors in the country of Zoan in Egypt.
Przed ojcami ich czynił cuda w ziemi Egipskiej, na polu Soan.
13 Through the sea which he split he brought them, making waters stand up like a heap;
Rozdzielił morze, i przeprowadził ich, i sprawił, że stanęły wody jako kupa.
14 he led them by day with a cloud, all the night with a light of fire.
Prowadził ich w obłoku we dnie, a każdej nocy w jasnym ogniu.
15 From the rocks which he split in the wilderness, he gave them to drink as of ocean’s abundance.
Rozszczepił skały na puszczy, a napoił ich, jako z przepaści wielkich.
16 He brought streams out of the rock, and made water run down like rivers.
Wywiódł strumienie ze skały, a uczynił, że wody ciekły jako rzeki.
17 Yet they still went on sinning against him, they defied the Most High in the desert.
A wszakże oni przyczynili grzechów przeciwko niemu, a wzruszyli Najwyższego na puszczy do gniewu;
18 They willfully challenged God, demanding the food that they longed for.
I kusili Boga w sercu swem, żądając pokarmu według lubości swojej.
19 “Is God able,” such was their challenge, “to spread in the desert a table?
A mówili przeciwko Bogu temi słowy: Izali może Bóg zgotować stół na tej puszczy?
20 From the rock that he struck there gushed water, and torrents that overflowed; but can he also give bread, or provide his people with meat?”
Oto uderzył w skałę, a wypłynęły wody, i rzeki wezbrały; izali też będzie mógł dać chleb? Izali nagotuje mięsa ludowi swemu?
21 When the Lord heard this, he was furious, and fire was kindled on Jacob, anger flared up against Israel.
Przetoż usłyszawszy to Pan, rozgniewał się, a ogień się zapalił przeciw Jakóbowi, także i popędliwość powstała przeciw Izraelowi;
22 For they put no trust in God, no confidence in his help.
Przeto, iż nie wierzyli Bogu, a nie mieli nadziei w zbawieniu jego.
23 So he summoned the clouds above; and, opening the doors of heaven,
Choć był rozkazał obłokom z góry, i forty niebieskie otworzył.
24 he rained manna upon them for food, and grain of heaven he gave them.
I spuścił im jako deszcz mannę ku pokarmowi, a pszenicę niebieską dał im.
25 Everyone ate the bread of angels; he sent them food to the full.
Chleb mocarzów jadł człowiek, a zesłał im pokarmów do sytości.
26 He launched the east wind in the heavens, and guided the south by his power.
Obrócił wiatr ze wschodu na powietrzu, a przywiódł mocą swą wiatr z południa;
27 He rained meat upon them like dust, winged bird like the sand of the sea.
I spuścił na nich mięso jako proch, i ptastwo skrzydlate jako piasek morski;
28 In the midst of their camp he dropped it, all around their tents.
Spuścił je w pośród obozu ich, wszędy około namiotów ich.
29 They ate and were more than filled; he had brought them the thing they desired.
I jedli, a nasyceni byli hojnie, i dał im, czego żądali.
30 But the thing they desired became loathsome: while their food was still in their mouths,
A gdy jeszcze nie wypełnili żądości swej, gdy jeszcze pokarm był w ustach ich:
31 the wrath of God rose against them. He slew the stoutest among them, and laid low the young men of Israel.
Tedy zapalczywość Boża przypadła na nich, i pobił tłustych ich, a przedniejszych z Izraela poraził.
32 Yet for all this they sinned yet more, and refused to believe in his wonders.
Ale w tem wszystkiem jeszcze grzeszyli, i nie wierzyli cudom jego;
33 So he ended their days in a breath, and their years in sudden dismay.
Przetoż sprawił, że marnie dokonali dni swoich, i lat swoich w strachu.
34 When he slew them, then they sought after him, they turned and sought God with diligence.
Gdy ich tracił, jeźliże go szukali, i nawracali się, a szukali z rana Boga,
35 They remembered that God was their rock, and the Most High God their redeemer.
Przypominając sobie, iż Bóg był skałą ich, a Bóg najwyższy odkupicielem ich:
36 But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
(Aczkolwiek pochlebiali mu usty swemi, i językiem swoim kłamali mu;
37 Their heart was not steady with him, they were faithless to his covenant.
A serce ich nie było szczere przed nim, ani wiernymi byli w przymierzu jego.)
38 But he is full of pity: he pardons sin and destroys not. Often he turns his anger away, without stirring his wrath at all.
On jednak będąc miłosierny odpuszczał nieprawości ich, a nie zatracał ich, ale częstokroć odwracał gniew swój, a nie pobudzał wszystkiego gniewu swego;
39 So he remembered that they were but flesh, breath that passes and does not return.
Bo pamiętał, że są ciałem, wiatrem, który odchodzi, a nie wraca się zaś.
40 But how often they rebelled in the desert, and caused him grief in the wilderness,
Jako go często draźnili na puszczy, i do boleści przywodzili na pustyniach?
41 tempting God again and again, provoking the Holy One of Israel.
Bo coraz kusili Boga, a Świętemu Izraelskiemu granice zamierzali.
42 They did not remember his strength, nor the day he redeemed from the foe,
Nie pamiętali na rękę jego, i na on dzień, w który ich wybawił z utrapienia;
43 how he set his signs in Egypt, in the country of Zoan his wonders.
Gdy czynił w Egipcie znaki swoje, a cuda swe na polu Soan;
44 He turned their canals into blood, their streams undrinkable.
Gdy obrócił w krew rzeki ich, i strumienie ich, tak, że z nich pić nie mogli.
45 He sent forth flies, which devoured them; frogs, too, which destroyed them.
Przepuścił na nich rozmaite muchy, aby ich kąsały, i żaby, aby ich gubiły:
46 Their crops he gave to the caterpillar, and the fruits of their toil to the locust.
I dał chrząszczom urodzaje ich, a prace ich szarańczy.
47 He slew their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost.
Potłukł gradem szczepy ich, a drzewa leśnych fig ich gradem lodowym.
48 He delivered their cattle to the hail, and their flocks to bolts of fire.
I podał gradowi bydło ich, a majętność ich węglu ognistemu.
49 He let loose his hot anger among them, fury and wrath and distress, a band of destroying angels.
Posłał na nich gniew zapalczywości swojej, popędliwość, i rozgniewanie, i uciśnienie, przypuściwszy na nich aniołów złych.
50 He cleared a path for his anger, did not spare them from death, but gave them over to pestilence.
Wyprostował ścieżkę gniewowi swemu, nie zachował od śmierci duszy ich, i na bydło ich powietrze dopuścił;
51 He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the first fruits of their strength in the tents of Ham.
I pobił wszystko pierworodztwo w Egipcie, pierwiastki mocy ich w przybytkach Chamowych;
52 He led forth his people like sheep, he was guide to his flock in the desert.
Ale jako owce wyprowadził lud swój, a wodził ich jako stada po puszczy.
53 Securely he led them, and free from fear, while their foes were drowned in the sea.
Wodził ich w bezpieczeństwie, tak, że się nie lękali, (a nieprzyjaciół ich okryło morze, )
54 To his holy realm he brought them, to the mountain his right hand had purchased.
Aż ich przywiódł do świętej granicy swojej, na onę górę, której nabyła prawica jego.
55 He drove out the nations before them, and allotted their land for possession, and their tents for Israel to live in.
I wyrzucił przed twarzą ich narody, i sprawił, że im przyszły na sznur dziedzictwa ich, ażeby mieszkały w przybytkach ich pokolenia Izraelskie.
56 Yet they tempted and angered the Most High God, they did not observe his decrees.
A wszakże przecież kusili i draźnili Boga najwyższego, a świadectwa jego nie strzegli.
57 They drew back, false like their ancestors; they failed like a treacherous bow.
Ale się odwrócili, i przewrotnie się obchodzili, jako i ojcowie ich; wywrócili się jako łuk omylny.
58 Their shrines stirred him to anger, their idols moved him to jealousy.
Bo go wzruszyli do gniewu wyżynami swemi, a rytemi bałwanami swemi pobudzili go do zapalczywości.
59 When God heard of this, he was furious, and he spurned Israel utterly.
Co słysząc Bóg rozgniewał się, i zbrzydził sobie bardzo Izraela,
60 He abandoned his home in Shiloh, the tent he had pitched among people.
Tak, że opuściwszy przybytek w Sylo, namiot, który postawił między ludźmi,
61 He gave his strength up to captivity, his glory to the hands of the foe.
Podał w niewolę moc swoję, i sławę swoję w ręce nieprzyjacielskie.
62 He gave his people to the sword, he was furious with his own.
Dał pod miecz lud swój, a na dziedzictwo swoje rozgniewał się.
63 Fire devoured their young men, and their maidens had no marriage-song.
Młodzieńców jego ogień pożarł, a panienki jego nie były uczczone.
64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows could not weep.
Kapłani jego od miecza polegli, a wdowy jego nie płakały.
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior flushed with wine;

66 and he beat back his foes, putting them to perpetual scorn.
I zaraził nieprzyjaciół swoich na pośladkach, a na wieczną hańbę podał ich.
67 He disowned the tent of Joseph, he rejected the tribe of Ephraim;
Ale choć wzgardził namiotem Józefowym, a pokolenia Efraimowego nie obrał,
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loves.
Wszakże obrał pokolenie Judowe, i górę Syon, którą umiłował.
69 And he built like the heights his sanctuary, like the earth which he founded forever.
I wystawił sobie jako pałac wysoki świątnicę swoję, jako ziemię, którą ugruntował na wieki.
70 And he chose David his servant, taking him from the sheepfolds.
I obrał Dawida sługę swego, wziąwszy go z obór owczych;
71 From the mother-ewes he brought him, to be shepherd to Jacob his people, and to Israel his inheritance.
Gdy chodził za owcami kotnemi, przyprowadził go, aby pasł Jakóba, lud jego, i Izraela, dziedzictwo jego;
72 With upright heart did he shepherd them, and with skilful hands did he guide them.
Który ich pasł w szczerości serca swego, a w roztropności rąk swoich prowadził ich.
