Psalms 49
1 “For the leader of the music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.” Hear this, all ye nations; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world;
Przewodnikowi chóru. Psalm dla synów Korego. Słuchajcie tego wszystkie narody, nadstawcie ucha wszyscy mieszkańcy świata.
2 Both high and low, rich and poor alike!
Zarówno wy, prości, jak i wy, możni; zarówno bogaty, jak i ubogi.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom, And the meditation of my mind shall be understanding.
Moje usta wypowiedzą mądrość, a rozmyślaniem mego serca [będzie] roztropność.
4 I will incline mine ear to a poem; I will utter my song upon the harp.
Nakłonię ucha ku przypowieści, przy harfie rozwiążę moją zagadkę.
5 Why should I fear in the days of adversity, When the iniquity of my adversaries encompasseth me;
Dlaczego mam się bać w dniach niedoli, [gdy] otacza mnie nieprawość tych, którzy mnie depczą?
6 They who trust in their riches, And glory in the greatness of their wealth?
Ci, którzy ufają swym bogactwom i chlubią się swym wielkim dostatkiem;
7 No one can redeem his brother from death, Nor give a ransom for him to God,
Nikt [z nich] w żaden sposób nie odkupi swego brata ani nie może dać Bogu [za niego] okupu;
8 That he should live to eternity, And not see the pit.
(Kosztowny bowiem jest okup za ich dusze i nigdy się nie zdarzy);
9 Too costly is the redemption of his life, And he giveth it up for ever.
Aby żył na wieki i nie doznał zniszczenia.
10 For he seeth that wise men die, As well as the foolish and the ignorant; They perish alike, And leave their wealth to others.
Każdy bowiem widzi, że mądrzy umierają, tak samo jak ginie głupiec i prostak, i zostawiają obcym swoje bogactwa.
11 They imagine that their houses will endure for ever, And their dwelling-places from generation to generation: Men celebrate their names on the earth.
Myślą, [że] ich domy [są] wieczne, a ich mieszkania [będą trwać] z pokolenia na pokolenie; nazywają ziemie swymi imionami.
12 Yet man, who is in honor, abideth not; He is like the beasts that perish.
Lecz człowiek, choć otoczony czcią, nie przetrwa; podobny jest do bydląt, które giną.
13 Such is the way which is their confidence! And they who come after them approve their maxims. (Pause)
Ich droga jest ich głupstwem, mimo to ich potomkowie pochwalają ich mowę. (Sela)
14 Like sheep they are cast into the underworld; Death shall feed upon them; And the upright shall soon trample upon them. Their form shall be consumed in the underworld, And they shall no more have a dwelling-place. (Sheol h7585)
Jak owce będą złożeni w grobie, śmierć ich pożre; prawi będą nad nimi panować o poranku, ich postać zostanie zniszczona w grobie, gdy opuszczą swoje mieszkanie. (Sheol h7585)
15 But God will redeem my life from the underworld; Yea, he will take me under his care. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
Ale Bóg wykupi moją duszę z mocy grobu, bo mnie przyjmie. (Sela) (Sheol h7585)
16 Be not thou afraid, when one becometh rich; When the glory of his house is increased!
Nie bój się, gdy się ktoś wzbogaci, gdy się rozmnoży sława jego domu;
17 For, when he dieth, he will carry nothing away; His glory will not descend after him.
Bo gdy umrze, niczego [ze sobą] nie weźmie i nie pójdzie za nim jego sława.
18 Though in his life he thought himself happy, —Though men praised thee, while thou wast in prosperity, —
Chociaż za życia swej duszy pochlebiał i chwalono go, gdy dobrze się urządził;
19 Yet shalt thou go to the dwelling-place of thy fathers, Who never more shall see the light!
Pójdzie jednak do grona swych ojców; nigdy nie ujrzą światła.
20 The man who is in honor, but without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.
Człowiek, który jest otoczony czcią, a nie rozumie [tego], podobny jest do bydląt, które giną.
