Proverbs 18
1 He who separateth himself seeketh his own desire; Against all sound discretion he rusheth on.
El que se desvía busca su propio deseo, Y se enfada contra todo consejo.
2 The fool hath no delight in understanding, But rather in revealing his own mind.
El necio no se deleita en el entendimiento, Sino solo en exponer lo que piensa.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt; And with baseness, shame.
Cuando viene la impiedad viene también el desprecio, Y con la deshonra viene la afrenta.
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, And the wellspring of wisdom is an overflowing brook.
Las palabras de la boca de un hombre son aguas profundas, Torrente caudaloso es la fuente de la sabiduría.
5 It is not good to be partial to the wicked, So as to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
No es bueno mostrar preferencia por el perverso, Para desviar al justo en el juicio.
6 The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth calleth for blows.
Los labios del necio traen contienda, Y su boca clama por azotes.
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are a snare for his life.
La boca del necio es su ruina, Y sus labios, trampa para su alma.
8 The words of a talebearer are like sweet morsels; For they go down to the innermost parts of the body.
Las palabras del chismoso son como delicados manjares Que penetran hasta el fondo de sus órganos internos.
9 Moreover, he that is slothful in his work Is brother to him that is a great waster.
El negligente en su obra es hermano del disipador.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runneth to it, and is safe.
Torre fuerte es el Nombre de Yavé. A ella corre el justo y está a salvo.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall, in his own conceit.
Las riquezas del rico son su ciudad fortificada, Como un alto muro en su imaginación.
12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.
Antes del quebrantamiento el corazón del hombre es altivo, Y antes de la honra está la humildad.
13 He who answereth a matter before he hath heard it, It is folly and shame to him.
Al que responde antes de escuchar, Le es insensatez y deshonra.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a wounded spirit who can bear?
El buen ánimo del hombre soporta su enfermedad, Pero el ánimo abatido, ¿quién lo soportará?
15 The heart of the intelligent will acquire knowledge, And the ear of the wise will seek knowledge.
El corazón del entendido adquiere conocimiento, Y conocimiento busca el oído de los sabios.
16 A gift maketh room for a man, And bringeth him into the presence of the great.
El regalo de un hombre le abre camino Y lo conduce a la presencia de los grandes.
17 He that first pleadeth his cause appeareth just; But his opponent cometh, and searcheth him through.
El primero que se defiende parece ser justo, Hasta que llega su prójimo y lo investiga.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth asunder the mighty.
Echar suerte pone fin a la disputa, Y decide entre los poderosos.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; Yea, their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
El hermano ofendido es más tenaz que ciudad fuerte, Y los litigios, más que los cerrojos de una fortaleza.
20 With the fruit of a man's mouth shall his stomach be filled; He shall be filled with the produce of his lips.
Con el fruto de la boca del hombre llenará su estómago. Con el producto de sus labios se saciará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; They that love it shall eat its fruit.
La muerte y la vida están en poder de la boca. El que la ama comerá su fruto.
22 He that findeth a wife findeth a blessing, And obtaineth favor from the LORD.
El que halla esposa halla el bien, Y alcanza el favor de Yavé.
23 The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly.
El pobre se expresa con súplicas, El rico responde con durezas.
24 A man of many friends will show himself false; Yet there is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother.
Hay amigos que causan ruina al hombre, Pero hay un amigo más fiel que un hermano.
