John 2
1 And on the third day there was a marriage-feast in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there.
Le troisième jour, il y eut des noces à Cana de Galilée. La mère de Jésus était là.
2 And both Jesus and his disciples were invited to the feast.
Jésus fut aussi invité, avec ses disciples, aux noces.
3 And they had no wine, because the wine of the feast had failed. Then the mother of Jesus saith to him, There is no wine.
Lorsque le vin vint à manquer, la mère de Jésus lui dit: « Ils n'ont pas de vin. »
4 Jesus saith to her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? My hour is not yet come.
Jésus lui dit: « Femme, qu'est-ce que cela a à voir avec toi et moi? Mon heure n'est pas encore venue. »
5 His mother saith to the servants, Whatever he saith to you, do it.
Sa mère dit aux serviteurs: « Tout ce qu'il vous dira, faites-le. »
6 Now there were set there six water-pots of stone, in conformity with the Jews' custom of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Or, il y avait là six vases d'eau en pierre, placés selon la méthode de purification des Juifs, et contenant chacun deux ou trois métrées.
7 Jesus saith to them, Fill the water-pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
Jésus leur dit: « Remplissez d'eau les vases d'eau. » Ils les remplirent donc jusqu' au bord.
8 And he saith to them, Draw out now, and bear it to the master of the feast. And they bore it.
Il leur dit: « Puisez maintenant un peu d'eau, et portez-la au maître de la fête. » Ils en prirent donc.
9 But when the master of the feast tasted the water that had been made wine, not knowing whence it was, but the servants who drew the water knew, he called the bridegroom
Lorsque le maître du repas eut goûté l'eau devenue vin et qu'il ne sut pas d'où il venait (mais les serviteurs qui avaient puisé l'eau le savaient), le maître du repas appela l'époux
10 and said to him, Every man setteth on the good wine first, and when men have drunk freely, that which is worse. Thou hast kept the good wine until now.
et lui dit: « Que chacun serve d'abord le bon vin, puis, lorsque les convives auront bu, le moins bon. Toi, tu as gardé le bon vin jusqu'à maintenant! »
11 This beginning of the signs Jesus made in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Ce commencement de ses miracles, Jésus l'accomplit à Cana de Galilée, et il révéla sa gloire; et ses disciples crurent en lui.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother, and his brothers, and his disciples; and they abode there not many days.
Après cela, il descendit à Capharnaüm, lui, sa mère, ses frères et ses disciples, et ils y restèrent quelques jours.
13 And the passover of the Jews was near; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
La Pâque des Juifs était proche, et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.
14 And he found in the temple those who sold oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting.
Il trouva dans le temple ceux qui vendaient des bœufs, des brebis et des colombes, et les changeurs de monnaie assis.
15 And having made a scourge of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and poured out the money of the exchangers, and overthrew the tables;
Il fit un fouet de cordes et les chassa tous du temple, tant les brebis que les bœufs; il jeta la monnaie des changeurs et renversa leurs tables.
16 and said to those who sold the doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house a house of merchandise.
À ceux qui vendaient les colombes, il dit: « Enlevez ces choses d'ici! Ne faites pas de la maison de mon Père une place de marché! »
17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for thy house will consume me.”
Ses disciples se souvinrent qu'il était écrit: « Le zèle pour votre maison me dévorera. »
18 The Jews therefore answered and said to him, What sign dost thou show us, seeing thou doest these things?
Les Juifs lui répondirent donc: « Quel signe nous montres-tu, puisque tu fais ces choses? »
19 Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Jésus leur répondit: « Détruisez ce temple, et en trois jours je le relèverai. »
20 Then said the Jews, Forty-six years was this temple in building; and wilt thou raise it up in three days?
Les Juifs dirent donc: « Il a fallu quarante-six ans pour construire ce temple! Le relèveras-tu en trois jours? »
21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.
Mais lui, il parlait du temple de son corps.
22 When therefore he had risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken.
Quand donc il fut ressuscité des morts, ses disciples se souvinrent qu'il avait dit cela, et ils crurent à l'Écriture et à la parole que Jésus avait dite.
23 And when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, at the feast, many believed in his name, when they saw his signs which he wrought.
Or, lorsqu'il était à Jérusalem, à la Pâque, pendant la fête, beaucoup crurent en son nom, observant les miracles qu'il faisait.
24 But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew all men;
Mais Jésus ne se confiait pas à eux, parce qu'il connaissait tout le monde,
25 and had no need that any one should testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
et qu'il n'avait pas besoin que quelqu'un rendît témoignage au sujet de l'homme, car il savait lui-même ce qui était dans l'homme.
