James 3
1 My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
Que não sejam muitos de vocês professores, meus irmãos, sabendo que receberemos um julgamento mais pesado.
2 For in many things we all offend. If any one offend not in speech, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
Pois todos nós tropeçamos em muitas coisas. Quem não tropeça em palavras é uma pessoa perfeita, capaz de refrear todo o corpo também.
3 For when we put the bits into the horses' mouths, that they may obey us, we turn about also their whole body.
De fato, colocamos pedaços na boca dos cavalos para que eles nos obedeçam, e nós guiamos seu corpo inteiro.
4 Behold also the ships, which, though they are so great, and driven by fierce winds, are yet turned about with a very small rudder, whithersoever the steersman chooseth.
Veja, os navios também, apesar de serem tão grandes e serem movidos por ventos fortes, ainda são guiados por um leme muito pequeno, onde quer que o piloto deseje.
5 So also the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindleth!
Portanto, a língua também é um pequeno membro, e ostenta grandes coisas. Veja como um pequeno fogo pode se espalhar para uma grande floresta!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity! The tongue among our members is that which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of life, and is itself set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)

7 For every kind of beasts and of birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed and hath been tamed by mankind;
Para todo tipo de animal, pássaro, coisa rasteira e criatura do mar é domada, e foi domada pela humanidade;
8 but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
mas ninguém pode domar a língua. É um mal inquieto, cheio de veneno mortal.
9 Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men, who have been made after the likeness of God;
Com ele abençoamos nosso Deus e Pai, e com ele amaldiçoamos os homens que são feitos à imagem de Deus.
10 out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Da mesma boca sai a bênção e a maldição. Meus irmãos, estas coisas não deveriam ser assim.
11 Doth a fountain from the same opening send forth sweet water and bitter?
Será que da mesma abertura sai uma fonte de água fresca e amarga?
12 Can a fig-tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a vine, figs? Neither can salt water yield fresh.
Uma figueira, meus irmãos, pode produzir azeitonas, ou uma videira figos? Assim, nenhuma fonte produz tanto água salgada quanto água doce.
13 Who is wise and endued with knowledge among you P let him show out of a good course of conduct his works in meekness of wisdom.
Quem é sábio e compreensivo entre vocês? Deixem-no mostrar por sua boa conduta que seus atos são feitos com gentileza e sabedoria.
14 But if ye have bitter rivalry and strife in your hearts, do not glory and lie against the truth.
Mas se você tem ciúmes amargos e ambição egoísta em seu coração, não se vanglorie e não minta contra a verdade.
15 This wisdom is not that which descendeth from above, but earthly, sensual, devilish.
Esta sabedoria não é aquela que vem de cima, mas é terrena, sensual e demoníaca.
16 For where there is rivalry and strife, there is confusion and every evil work.
Pois onde há ciúme e ambição egoísta, há confusão e todo ato maligno.
17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
Mas a sabedoria que vem de cima é primeiro pura, depois pacífica, gentil, razoável, cheia de misericórdia e bons frutos, sem parcialidade, e sem hipocrisia.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Agora o fruto da retidão é semeado em paz por aqueles que fazem a paz.
