Ephesians 5
1 Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;

2 and walk in love, as Christ also loved you, and gave himself for you an offering and a sacrifice to God, of a sweet odor.

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints,
Aranızda fuhuş, ahlaksızlık ya da açgözlülük anılmasın bile. Kutsallara yaraşmaz bu.
4 neither obscenity, nor foolish talking, nor indecent jesting, which are not becoming; but rather giving of thanks.
Aranızda açık saçıklık, budalaca konuşmalar, bayağı şakalar da olmasın. Bunlar size yakışmaz. Bunun yerine şükredin.
5 For of this ye are sure, since ye know that no whore-monger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Şunu kesinlikle bilin ki, fuhuş yapanın, pisliğe düşkün olanın ya da putperest demek olan açgözlü kişinin, Mesih'in ve Tanrı'nın Egemenliği'nde mirası yoktur.
6 Let no one deceive you with vain words; for because of these things the wrath of God cometh upon the sons of disobedience.
Hiç kimse sizi boş sözlerle aldatmasın. Bu şeylerden ötürü Tanrı'nın gazabı söz dinlemeyenlerin üzerine gelir.
7 Be not therefore partakers with them.
Onun için böyleleriyle oturup kalkmayın.
8 For ye were once darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
Bir zamanlar karanlıktınız, ama şimdi Rab'de ışıksınız. Işık çocukları olarak yaşayın.
9 —for the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth, —
Çünkü ışığın meyvesi her iyilikte, doğrulukta ve gerçekte görülür.
10 proving what is acceptable to the Lord;
Rab'bi neyin hoşnut ettiğini ayırt edin.
11 and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.
Karanlığın meyvesiz işlerine katılmayın. Tersine, onları açığa çıkarın.
12 For the things done in secret by them it is a shame even to speak of.
Karanlıktakilerin gizlice yaptıklarından söz etmek bile ayıptır.
13 But all things, when reproved, are made manifest by the light; for whatever maketh manifest is light.
Işığın açığa vurduğu her şey görünür.
14 Wherefore he saith, “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light.”
Çünkü görünen her şey ışıktır. Bunun için şöyle deniyor: “Uyan, ey uyuyan! Ölümden diril! Mesih sana ışık saçacak.”
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly; not as unwise men, but as wise;
Öyleyse nasıl yaşadığınıza çok dikkat edin. Bilgelikten yoksun olanlar gibi değil, bilgeler gibi yaşayın.
16 buying up for yourselves opportunities, because the days are evil.
Fırsatı değerlendirin. Çünkü yaşadığımız günler kötüdür.
17 Wherefore be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Bunun için akılsız olmayın, Rab'bin isteğinin ne olduğunu anlayın.
18 And be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be filled with the Spirit,
Şarapla sarhoş olmayın, bu sizi sefahate götürür. Bunun yerine Ruh'la dolun:
19 speaking to one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Birbirinize mezmurlar, ilahiler, ruhsal ezgiler söyleyin; yürekten Rab'be ezgiler, mezmurlar okuyun;
20 giving thanks always for all things to God, the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
durmadan, her şey için Rabbimiz İsa Mesih'in adıyla Baba Tanrı'ya şükredin;
21 submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.
Mesih'e duyduğunuz saygıdan ötürü birbirinize bağımlı olun.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord;
Ey kadınlar, Rab'be bağımlı olduğunuz gibi, kocalarınıza bağımlı olun.
23 for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, —he, who is the Saviour of the body.
Çünkü Mesih bedenin kurtarıcısı olarak kilisenin başı olduğu gibi, erkek de kadının başıdır.
24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so let wives be to their husbands in everything.
Kilise Mesih'e bağımlı olduğu gibi, kadınlar da her durumda kocalarına bağımlı olsunlar.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it,
Ey kocalar, Mesih kiliseyi nasıl sevip onun uğruna kendini feda ettiyse, siz de karılarınızı öyle sevin.
26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the bath of the water in the word;
Mesih kiliseyi suyla yıkayıp tanrısal sözle temizleyerek kutsal kılmak için kendini feda etti.
27 that he himself might present to himself the church, glorious, having no spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Öyle ki, kiliseyi üzerinde leke, buruşukluk ya da buna benzer bir şey olmadan, görkemli biçimde kendine sunabilsin. Amacı kilisenin kutsal ve kusursuz olmasıdır.
28 In like manner husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself;
Aynı biçimde kocalar da karılarını kendi bedenleri gibi sevmelidir. Karısını seven kendini sever.
29 for no one ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as Christ doth the church;
Hiç kimse hiçbir zaman kendi bedeninden nefret etmemiştir. Tersine, onu besler ve kayırır; tıpkı Mesih'in kiliseyi besleyip kayırdığı gibi.
30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Çünkü bizler O'nun bedeninin üyeleriyiz.
31 “For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.”
“Bunun için adam annesini babasını bırakıp karısına bağlanacak, ikisi tek beden olacak.”
32 This mystery is a great one; but I am speaking of Christ and of the church.
Bu sır büyüktür; ben bunu Mesih ve kiliseyle ilgili olarak söylüyorum.
33 However, do ye also severally love each one his own wife as himself; and let the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Size gelince, her biriniz karısını kendisi gibi sevsin. Kadın da kocasına saygı göstersin.
