Acts 8
1 And Saul was consenting to his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and all were scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
Saul consentait à sa mort. Une grande persécution s'éleva contre l'assemblée qui était à Jérusalem en ce jour-là. Ils étaient tous dispersés dans les régions de la Judée et de la Samarie, à l'exception des apôtres.
2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
Des hommes pieux enterrèrent Étienne et se lamentèrent sur son sort.
3 But Saul ravaged the church, entering house after house, and dragging both men and women, committed them to prison.
Mais Saul ravagea l'assemblée, entrant dans toutes les maisons et traînant hommes et femmes en prison.
4 Now those that had been scattered abroad went through the country preaching the word.
Ceux qui étaient dispersés allaient donc de lieu en lieu prêcher la parole.
5 And Philip went down to a city of Samaria, and preached to them the Christ.
Philippe descendit dans la ville de Samarie et leur annonça le Christ.
6 And the multitudes with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he wrought.
La foule écoutait d'un commun accord les paroles de Philippe, lorsqu'elle entendait et voyait les miracles qu'il faisait.
7 For from many that had unclean spirits came they out crying with a loud voice; and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were cured.
Car des esprits impurs sortirent de plusieurs de ceux qui en avaient. Ils sortaient en criant d'une voix forte. Beaucoup de paralysés et de boiteux furent guéris.
8 And there was great joy in that city.
Il y eut une grande joie dans cette ville.
9 But before their arrival a certain man, named Simon, was in the city, a man practising sorcery, and amazing the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was some great person;
Or, il y avait dans la ville un homme, nommé Simon, qui avait l'habitude de pratiquer la sorcellerie et d'étonner les habitants de Samarie, se faisant passer pour un grand,
10 to whom they gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the Power of God, which is called Great.
et que tous écoutaient, du plus petit au plus grand, en disant: « Cet homme est la grande puissance de Dieu. »
11 And to him they gave heed, because they had for a long time been amazed by his sorceries.
Ils l'écoutaient, parce que depuis longtemps il les avait étonnés par ses sortilèges.
12 But when they believed Philip, publishing the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Mais lorsqu'ils crurent que Philippe annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu et du nom de Jésus-Christ, ils furent baptisés, hommes et femmes.
13 And Simon himself also believed, and having been baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed when he beheld the miracles and signs which were wrought.
Simon lui-même crut aussi. Après avoir été baptisé, il poursuivit sa route avec Philippe. Voyant des signes et de grands miracles se produire, il était stupéfait.
14 And the apostles at Jerusalem, hearing that Samaria had received the word of God, sent to them Peter and John;
Les apôtres qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie avait reçu la parole de Dieu, y envoyèrent Pierre et Jean.
15 who, having come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
Ceux-ci, étant descendus, prièrent pour eux, afin qu'ils reçoivent le Saint-Esprit;
16 For it had not yet fallen upon any of them; but they had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
car il n'était encore tombé sur aucun d'eux. Ils avaient seulement été baptisés au nom de Jésus-Christ.
17 Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Alors ils leur imposèrent les mains, et ils reçurent le Saint-Esprit.
18 But Simon, seeing that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, offered them money,
Simon, voyant que le Saint-Esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, leur offrit de l'argent,
19 saying, Give me also this power, that on whomever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
en disant: « Donnez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que quiconque m'impose les mains reçoive le Saint-Esprit. »
20 But Peter said to him, Thy money perish with thee! because thou didst think to obtain the gift of God with money.
Mais Pierre lui dit: « Que ton argent périsse avec toi, parce que tu as cru pouvoir obtenir le don de Dieu avec de l'argent!
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter; for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
Tu n'as ni part ni lot dans cette affaire, car ton cœur n'est pas droit devant Dieu.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if haply the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee.
Repens-toi donc de cela, de ta méchanceté, et demande à Dieu si peut-être la pensée de ton cœur peut t'être pardonnée.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
Car je vois que tu es dans le poison de l'amertume et dans la servitude de l'iniquité. »
24 And Simon answering said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of the things which ye have spoken may come upon me.
Simon répondit: « Priez pour moi le Seigneur, afin qu'il ne m'arrive rien de ce que vous avez dit. »
25 They then, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, were returning to Jerusalem, and publishing the glad tidings in many villages of the Samaritans.
Après avoir témoigné et prononcé la parole du Seigneur, ils retournèrent donc à Jérusalem, et prêchèrent la Bonne Nouvelle dans plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go towards the south, to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert way.
Alors un ange du Seigneur parla à Philippe, en disant: « Lève-toi, et va du côté du midi, sur le chemin qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza. C'est un désert. »
27 And he arose and went; and lo! a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, a high officer of Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,
Il se leva et partit. Et voici qu'un homme d'Éthiopie, eunuque de grande autorité sous Candace, reine des Éthiopiens, qui était à la tête de tout son trésor, était venu à Jérusalem pour se prosterner.
28 was returning and sitting in his chariot; and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Il s'en retournait, assis dans son char, et lisait le prophète Ésaïe.
29 And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot.
L'Esprit dit à Philippe: « Approche-toi, et attache-toi à ce char. »
30 And Philip ran up, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, Well, but dost thou understand what thou art reading?
Philippe courut vers lui, l'entendit lire le prophète Ésaïe, et dit: « Comprends-tu ce que tu lis? »
31 And he said, How can I, unless some one shall guide me? And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
Il dit: « Comment le pourrais-je, si personne ne me l'explique? » Il pria Philippe de monter et de s'asseoir avec lui.
32 And the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this: “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so he openeth not his mouth.
Or, le passage de l'Écriture qu'il lisait était celui-ci, « Il a été conduit comme un mouton à l'abattoir. Comme un agneau qui se tait devant son tondeur, pour qu'il n'ouvre pas sa bouche.
33 In his humiliation judgment was refused him; and who shall describe his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth.”
Dans son humiliation, son jugement a été enlevé. Qui déclarera sa génération? Car sa vie est enlevée de la terre. »
34 And the eunuch answering said, I pray thee, of whom doth the prophet say this? Of himself, or of some other man?
L'eunuque répondit à Philippe: « De qui le prophète parle-t-il? De lui-même, ou de quelqu'un d'autre? »
35 And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this scripture declared to him the glad tidings concerning Jesus.
Philippe ouvrit la bouche, et, commençant par cette Écriture, il lui annonça Jésus.
36 And as they went along the road, they came to a certain water; and the eunuch saith, See, here is water; what is there to hinder my being baptized?
Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, ils arrivèrent à de l'eau, et l'eunuque dit: « Voici de l'eau. Qu'est-ce qui m'empêche d'être baptisé? »
38 And he commanded that the chariot should stop; and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Il ordonna au char de s'arrêter, et ils descendirent tous deux dans l'eau, Philippe et l'eunuque, et il le baptisa.
39 But when they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Lorsqu'ils sortirent de l'eau, l'Esprit du Seigneur emporta Philippe, et l'eunuque ne le vit plus, car il s'en alla tout joyeux.
40 But Philip was found at Azotus; and passing through, he published the glad tidings in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
Mais Philippe fut trouvé à Azot. En passant, il prêcha la bonne nouvelle dans toutes les villes, jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive à Césarée.
