Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Mas un varón llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una posesión,
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also having knowledge of it; and brought a certain part, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
Y defraudó parte del precio, sabiéndo lo también su mujer; y trayendo una parte, la depositó a los pies de los apóstoles.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why did Satan fill thy heart that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Spirit, and keep back part of the price of the land?
Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué hinchió Satanás tu corazón a que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y defraudases parte del precio de la heredad?
4 While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why didst thou conceive this thing in thy heart? Thou didst not lie to men, but to God.
Quedándose, ¿no se te quedaba a ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué has concebido esta cosa en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios.
5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all that heard of it.
Entonces Ananías, oyendo estas palabras, cayó, y espiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.
6 And the young men arose, and wrapt him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
Y levantándose los mancebos, le tomaron; y sacándo le, le sepultaron.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Y pasado el espacio como de tres horas, también su mujer entró, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.
8 Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much.
Entonces Pedro le dijo: Díme. ¿Vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Si, en tanto.
9 And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they will carry thee out.
Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os concertasteis para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido; y sacarte han a ti.
10 And she fell down immediately at his feet, and expired; and the young men, when they came in, found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.
Y luego cayó a los pies de él, y espiró; y entrados los mancebos, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon all that heard of these things.
Y vino un gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oyeron estas cosas.
12 And many signs and wonders were wrought among the people by the hands of the apostles; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
Y por las manos de los apóstoles eran hechos muchos milagros y prodigios en el pueblo; (y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.
13 But of the rest no one dared to join himself to them. But the people highly honored them;
Y de los otros, ninguno se osaba juntar con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente.
14 and more and more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;
Y los que creían en el Señor se aumentaban más, así de varones como de mujeres.)
15 so that in the streets they brought out the sick, and laid them on beds and couches, in order that at least the shadow of Peter, as he passed, might overshadow some of them.
Tanto, que echaban los enfermos por las calles, y los ponían en camas y en lechos, para que viniendo Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cayese sobre alguno de ellos.
16 The multitude also belonging to the cities around came together to Jerusalem bringing the sick, and those plagued by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
Y aun de las ciudades vecinas concurría una multitud a Jerusalem, trayendo enfermos, y atormentados de espíritus inmundos: los cuales todos eran curados.
17 But the high-priest and all that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with indignation,
Entonces levantándose el sumo sacerdote, y todos los que estaban con él, (que es la secta de los Saduceos, ) fueron llenos de ira,
18 and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the public prison.
Y echaron mano a los apóstoles, y los pusieron en la cárcel pública.
19 But an angel of the Lord in the night opened the prison-doors, and brought them forth and said,
Mas el ángel del Señor, abriendo de noche las puertas de la cárcel, y sacándolos, dijo:
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
Id, y estando en el templo, hablád al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.
21 And hearing this, they went into the temple at daybreak and taught. But the high-priest and they that were with him came and called together the council, and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Ellos entonces, como oyeron esto, entraron por la mañana en el templo, y enseñaban. Viniendo pues el sumo sacerdote, y los que estaban con él, convocaron el concilio, y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel; y enviaron a la cárcel, para que fuesen traídos.
22 But the officers that came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and brought word,
Y como vinieron los ministros, no los hallaron en la cárcel, y vueltos, dieron aviso,
23 saying, The prison we found shut in all security and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we opened them, we found no one within.
Diciendo: Cierto la cárcel hallamos cerrada con toda diligencia, y los guardas que estaban afuera delante de las puertas; mas cuando abrímos, a nadie hallamos dentro.
24 And when the priest, and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were at a loss concerning them, to what this would come.
Entonces como oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote, y el magistrado del templo, y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría a parar aquello.
25 But one came and brought them word, Lo! the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.
Y viniendo uno, les avisó, diciendo: He aquí, los varones que echasteis en la cárcel, están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence, that they might not be stoned; for they feared the people.
Entonces el magistrado fue con los ministros, y los trajo sin violencia, porque tenían miedo del pueblo, de ser apedreados.
27 And having brought them, they set them before the council. And the high-priest questioned them,
Y como los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio. Entonces el sumo sacerdote les preguntó,
28 saying, We strictly commanded you not to teach in this name, and lo! ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and mean to bring this man's blood upon us.
Diciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrechamente, que no enseñaseis en este nombre? y, he aquí, habéis henchido a Jerusalem de vuestra doctrina, ¿y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre?
29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Y respondiendo Pedro y los otros apóstoles, dijeron: Es menester obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew by hanging him on a cross;
El Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, al cual vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.
31 him hath God exalted by his right hand, as a Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
A éste enalteció Dios con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y remisión de pecados.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit which God hath given to those who obey him.
Y nosotros le somos testigos de estas cosas, y lo es también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.
33 But when they heard this, they were filled with rage, and were resolving to kill them.
Ellos en oyendo esto fueron heridos hasta el corazón, y consultaban de matarlos.
34 But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, in high esteem with all the people, and commanded to put the men forth a little while,
Entonces levantándose en el concilio un Fariseo, llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera un poco a los apóstoles,
35 and said to them [[of the council]], Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as to what ye are about to do in respect to these men.
Y les dijo: Varones Israelitas, mirád por vosotros acerca de estos hombres en lo que habéis de hacer.
36 For before these days arose Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and came to nought.
Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien; al cual se allegaron un número de varones, como de cuatrocientos, el cual fue muerto; y todos los que le creyeron, fueron disipados, y vueltos en nada.
37 After this man arose Judas the Galilaean, in the days of the registering, and drew people away after him; he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
Después de éste se levantó Júdas el Galileo en los días del empadronamiento; y llevó mucho pueblo tras sí. Pereció también éste, y todos los que consintieron con él fueron dispersos.
38 And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this design or this work be of men, it will come to nought;
Y ahora os digo, dejáos de estos hombres, y dejádlos; porque si este consejo, o esta obra, es de los hombres, se desvanecerá;
39 but if it be of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found also fighting against God.
Mas si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer; porque no parezca que queréis pelear contra Dios.
40 And they were persuaded by him; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
Y consintieron con él; y llamando a los apóstoles, habiéndo los azotado, les mandaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los soltaron.
41 They therefore went away from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame in behalf of that name;
Mas ellos iban gozosos de delante del concilio, de que fuesen tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por el nombre de Jesús.
42 and every day, in the temple, and in houses, they ceased not to teach, and to publish the glad tidings concerning Jesus the Christ.
Y todos los días no cesaban en el templo, y por las casas, de enseñar, y de predicar a Jesu Cristo.
