Matthew 14
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
Siihen aikaan kuuli Herodes tetrarka Jesuksen sanoman,
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
Ja sanoi palvelioillensa: tämä on Johannes Kastaja: hän on noussut kuolleista, ja sentähden tekee hän senkaltaisia väkeviä töitä.
3 For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
Sillä Herodes oli ottanut Johanneksen kiinni, sitonut ja vankiuteen pannut, Herodiaksen, veljensä Philippuksen emännän tähden.
4 for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
Sillä Johannes oli hänelle sanonut: ei sinulle ole luvallinen häntä pitää.
5 and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
Ja kuin hän tahtoi hänen tappaa, pelkäsi hän kansaa; sillä he pitivät hänen prophetana.
6 But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
Mutta kun Herodeksen syntymäjuhlaa pidettiin, hyppäsi Herodiaksen tytär heidän edessänsä; ja se kelpasi Herodekselle.
7 after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
Sentähden lupasi hän hänelle vannotulla valalla antaa, mitä hän anois.
8 And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;

9 and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;

10 and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,

11 and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.

12 And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
Ja hänen opetuslapsensa tulivat, ja ottivat pois hänen ruumiinsa, ja hautasivat sen; ja menivät ja ilmoittivat Jesukselle.
13 and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
Ja kuin Jesus sen kuuli, meni hän sieltä pois haahdella erämaahan yksinänsä. Ja kuin kansa se kuuli, noudattivat he häntä jalkaisin kaupungeista.
14 And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;
Ja Jesus meni ulos, ja näki paljon kansaa, ja armahti heidän päällensä, ja paransi heidän sairaitansa.
15 and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
Mutta kun ehtoo tuli, tulivat hänen opetuslapsensa hänen tykönsä, ja sanoivat: tämä on erämaa, ja aika on jo kulunut: laske kansa, että he menisivät kyliin itsellensä ruokaa ostamaan.
16 And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
Niin Jesus sanoi heille: ei tarvitse heidän mennä pois: antakaat te heidän syödä.
17 And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
Mutta he sanoivat hänelle: ei meillä ole tässä enempi kuin viisi leipää ja kaksi kalaa.
18 And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
Hän sanoi: tuokaat minulle ne tänne.
19 And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
Ja hän käski kansan istua ruoholle, ja otti ne viisi leipää ja kaksi kalaa, katsahti ylös taivaasen, kiitti, ja mursi, ja antoi leivät opetuslapsille, ja opetuslapset antoivat kansalle.
20 and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
Ja he söivät kaikki, ja ravittiin. Niin he kokosivat tähteistä muruja, kaksitoistakymmentä koria täyteen.
21 and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
Mutta niitä, jotka olivat syöneet, oli lähes viisituhatta miestä, ilman vaimoja ja lapsia.
22 And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
Ja kohta vaati Jesus opetuslapsiansa haahteen astumaan, ja menemään hänen edellään toiselle rannalle, niinkauvan kuin hän kansan olis tyköänsä laskenut.
23 and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
Ja kuin hän oli kansan laskenut, astui hän yksinänsä vuorelle rukoilemaan. Ja kuin ehtoo joutui, oli hän siellä yksinänsä.
24 and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
Mutta haaksi oli jo keskellä merta, ja ahdistettiin aalloilta; sillä vastatuuli oli.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
Mutta yöllä, neljännessä vartiossa, tuli Jesus heidän tykönsä, käyden merellä.
26 and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
Ja kuin opetuslapset näkivät hänen merellä käyvän, peljästyivät he, ja sanoivat: kyöpeli se on; ja huusivat pelvon tähden.
27 and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
Niin Jesus puhui kohta heille ja sanoi: olkaat hyvässä turvassa! minä olen: älkäät peljästykö.
28 And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
Niin vastasi Pietari häntä ja sanoi: Herra, jos sinä olet, niin käske minun tulla tykös vetten päällä.
29 and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
Niin hän sanoi: tule! Ja Pietari astui ulos haahdesta ja kävi vetten päällä, että hän menis Jesuksen tykö.
30 but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Ja kuin hän näki ankaran tuulen, niin hän peljästyi, ja rupesi vajoomaan, huusi sanoen: Herra, auta minua!
31 And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
Niin Jesus ojensi kohta kätensä, ja tarttui häneen, ja sanoi hänelle: oi sinä heikko-uskoinen, miksis epäilit?
32 And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
Kuin he astuivat haahteen, niin tuuli tyveni.
33 and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”
Mutta ne, jotka olivat haahdessa, tulivat ja kumarsivat häntä, ja sanoivat: totisesti olet sinä Jumalan Poika.
34 And having passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
Ja kuin he olivat menneet ylitse, tulivat he Genesaretin maalle.
35 and having recognized Him, the men of that place sent forth to all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all who were ill,
Ja kuin sen paikan miehet tunsivat hänen, lähettivät he ympäri kaikkea sitä maata, ja toivat hänen tykönsä kaikkinaisia sairaita,
36 and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
Ja rukoilivat häntä, että he ainoastaan hänen vaatteensa palteeseen saisivat ruveta. Ja kaikki, jotka siihen rupesivat, tulivat terveiksi.
