Genesis 18
1 And YHWH appears to him among the oaks of Mamre, and he is sitting at the opening of the tent, about the heat of the day;
Poi il Signore apparve a lui alle Querce di Mamre, mentre egli sedeva all'ingresso della tenda nell'ora più calda del giorno.
2 and he lifts up his eyes and looks, and behold, three men standing by him, and he sees, and runs to meet them from the opening of the tent, and bows himself toward the earth,
Egli alzò gli occhi e vide che tre uomini stavano in piedi presso di lui. Appena li vide, corse loro incontro dall'ingresso della tenda e si prostrò fino a terra,
3 and he says, “My Lord, if now I have found grace in Your eyes, please do not pass on from Your servant;
dicendo: «Mio signore, se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, non passar oltre senza fermarti dal tuo servo.
4 please let a little water be accepted, and wash Your feet, and recline under the tree;
Si vada a prendere un pò di acqua, lavatevi i piedi e accomodatevi sotto l'albero.
5 and I bring a piece of bread, and support Your heart; afterward pass on, for therefore You have passed over to Your servant”; and they say, “So may you do as you have spoken.”
Permettete che vada a prendere un boccone di pane e rinfrancatevi il cuore; dopo, potrete proseguire, perché è ben per questo che voi siete passati dal vostro servo». Quelli dissero: «Fà pure come hai detto».
6 And Abraham hurries toward the tent, to Sarah, and says, “Hurry three measures of flour-meal, knead, and make cakes”;
Allora Abramo andò in fretta nella tenda, da Sara, e disse: «Presto, tre staia di fior di farina, impastala e fanne focacce».
7 and Abraham ran to the herd, and takes a son of the herd, tender and good, and gives to the young man, and he hurries to prepare it;
All'armento corse lui stesso, Abramo, prese un vitello tenero e buono e lo diede al servo, che si affrettò a prepararlo.
8 and he takes butter and milk, and the son of the herd which he has prepared, and sets before them; and he is standing by them under the tree, and they eat.
Prese latte acido e latte fresco insieme con il vitello, che aveva preparato, e li porse a loro. Così, mentr'egli stava in piedi presso di loro sotto l'albero, quelli mangiarono.
9 And they say to him, “Where [is] Sarah your wife?” And he says, “Behold—in the tent”;
Poi gli dissero: «Dov'è Sara, tua moglie?». Rispose: «E' là nella tenda».
10 and He says, “Returning I return to you, about the time of life, and behold, to Sarah your wife a son.” And Sarah is listening at the opening of the tent, which is behind him;
Il Signore riprese: «Tornerò da te fra un anno a questa data e allora Sara, tua moglie, avrà un figlio». Intanto Sara stava ad ascoltare all'ingresso della tenda ed era dietro di lui.
11 and Abraham and Sarah [are] aged, entering into days—the way of women has ceased to be to Sarah;
Abramo e Sara erano vecchi, avanti negli anni; era cessato a Sara ciò che avviene regolarmente alle donne.
12 and Sarah laughs in her heart, saying, “After I have waxed old have I had pleasure? My lord [is] also old!”
Allora Sara rise dentro di sé e disse: «Avvizzita come sono dovrei provare il piacere, mentre il mio signore è vecchio!».
13 And YHWH says to Abraham, “Why [is] this? Sarah has laughed, saying, Is it really true—I bear—and I am aged?
Ma il Signore disse ad Abramo: «Perché Sara ha riso dicendo: Potrò davvero partorire, mentre sono vecchia?
14 Is anything too wonderful for YHWH? At the appointed time I return to you, about the time of life, and Sarah has a son.”
C'è forse qualche cosa impossibile per il Signore? Al tempo fissato tornerò da te alla stessa data e Sara avrà un figlio».
15 And Sarah denies, saying, “I did not laugh”; for she has been afraid; and He says, “No, but you did laugh.”
Allora Sara negò: «Non ho riso!», perché aveva paura; ma quegli disse: «Sì, hai proprio riso».
16 And the men rise from there, and look on the face of Sodom, and Abraham is going with them to send them away;
Quegli uomini si alzarono e andarono a contemplare Sòdoma dall'alto, mentre Abramo li accompagnava per congedarli.
17 and YHWH said, “Am I concealing from Abraham that which I am doing,
Il Signore diceva: «Devo io tener nascosto ad Abramo quello che sto per fare,
18 and Abraham certainly becomes a great and mighty nation, and blessed in him have been all nations of the earth?
mentre Abramo dovrà diventare una nazione grande e potente e in lui si diranno benedette tutte le nazioni della terra?
19 For I have known him, that he commands his children, and his house after him (and they have kept the way of YHWH), to do righteousness and judgment, that YHWH may bring on Abraham that which He has spoken concerning him.”
Infatti io l'ho scelto, perché egli obblighi i suoi figli e la sua famiglia dopo di lui ad osservare la via del Signore e ad agire con giustizia e diritto, perché il Signore realizzi per Abramo quanto gli ha promesso».
20 And YHWH says, “The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah—because great; and their sin—because exceedingly grievous:
Disse allora il Signore: «Il grido contro Sòdoma e Gomorra è troppo grande e il loro peccato è molto grave.
21 I go down now, and see whether according to its cry which is coming to Me they have done completely—and if not—I know”;
Voglio scendere a vedere se proprio hanno fatto tutto il male di cui è giunto il grido fino a me; lo voglio sapere!».
22 and the men turn from there, and go toward Sodom; and Abraham is yet standing before YHWH.
Quegli uomini partirono di lì e andarono verso Sòdoma, mentre Abramo stava ancora davanti al Signore.
23 And Abraham draws near and says, “Do You also consume righteous with wicked?
Allora Abramo gli si avvicinò e gli disse: «Davvero sterminerai il giusto con l'empio?
24 Perhaps there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city; do You also consume, and not bear with the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who [are] in its midst?
Forse vi sono cinquanta giusti nella città: davvero li vuoi sopprimere? E non perdonerai a quel luogo per riguardo ai cinquanta giusti che vi si trovano?
25 Far be it from You to do according to this thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked; that it has been—as the righteous so the wicked—far be it from You; does the Judge of all the earth not do justice?”
Lungi da te il far morire il giusto con l'empio, così che il giusto sia trattato come l'empio; lungi da te! Forse il giudice di tutta la terra non praticherà la giustizia?».
26 And YHWH says, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous in the midst of the city, then have I borne with all the place for their sake.”
Rispose il Signore: «Se a Sòdoma troverò cinquanta giusti nell'ambito della città, per riguardo a loro perdonerò a tutta la città».
27 And Abraham answers and says, “Now behold, I have willed to speak to the Lord, and I [am] dust and ashes;
Abramo riprese e disse: «Vedi come ardisco parlare al mio Signore, io che sono polvere e cenere...
28 perhaps there are lacking five of the fifty righteous—do You destroy for five the whole of the city?” And He says, “I do not destroy [it], if I find there forty-five.”
Forse ai cinquanta giusti ne mancheranno cinque; per questi cinque distruggerai tutta la città?». Rispose: «Non la distruggerò, se ve ne trovo quarantacinque».
29 And he adds again to speak to Him and says, “Perhaps there are found there forty?” And He says, “I do not do [it], because of the forty.”
Abramo riprese ancora a parlargli e disse: «Forse là se ne troveranno quaranta». Rispose: «Non lo farò, per riguardo a quei quaranta».
30 And he says, “Please let it not be displeasing to the Lord, and I speak: perhaps there are found there thirty?” And He says, “I do not do [it], if I find there thirty.”
Riprese: «Non si adiri il mio Signore, se parlo ancora: forse là se ne troveranno trenta». Rispose: «Non lo farò, se ve ne troverò trenta».
31 And he says, “Now behold, I have willed to speak to the Lord: perhaps there are found there twenty?” And He says, “I do not destroy [it], because of the twenty.”
Riprese: «Vedi come ardisco parlare al mio Signore! Forse là se ne troveranno venti». Rispose: «Non la distruggerò per riguardo a quei venti».
32 And he says, “Please let it not be displeasing to the Lord, and I speak only this time: perhaps there are found there ten?” And He says, “I do not destroy [it], because of the ten.”
Riprese: «Non si adiri il mio Signore, se parlo ancora una volta sola; forse là se ne troveranno dieci». Rispose: «Non la distruggerò per riguardo a quei dieci».
33 And YHWH goes on, when He has finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham has turned back to his place.
Poi il Signore, come ebbe finito di parlare con Abramo, se ne andò e Abramo ritornò alla sua abitazione.
