Acts 7
1 And the chief priest said, “Are then these things so?”
Alors le souverain Sacrificateur [lui] dit: ces choses sont-elles ainsi?
2 And he said, “Men, brothers, and fathers, listen! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, being in Mesopotamia, before his dwelling in Haran,
Et [Etienne] répondit: hommes frères et pères, écoutez [-moi]: le Dieu de gloire apparut à notre père Abraham, du temps qu'il était en Mésopotamie, avant qu'il demeurât à Carran,
3 and He said to him, Go forth out of your land, and out of your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.
Et lui dit: sors de ton pays, et d'avec ta parenté, et viens au pays que je te montrerai.
4 Then having come forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran, and from there, after the death of his father, He removed him to this land wherein you now dwell,
Il sortit donc du pays des Caldéens, et alla demeurer à Carran; et de là, après que son père fut mort, [Dieu] le fit passer en ce pays où vous habitez maintenant.
5 and He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a footstep, and promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him—he having no child.
Et il ne lui donna aucun héritage en ce pays, non pas même d'un pied de terre, quoiqu'il lui eût promis de le lui donner en possession, et à sa postérité après lui, dans un temps où il n'avait point encore d'enfant.
6 And God spoke thus, that his seed will be sojourning in a strange land, and they will cause it to serve, and will do it evil [for] four hundred years.
Et Dieu lui parla ainsi: ta postérité séjournera quatre cents ans dans une terre étrangère, et là on l'asservira, et on la maltraitera.
7 And the nation whom they will serve I will judge, said God; And after these things they will come forth and will do Me service in this place.
Mais je jugerai la nation à laquelle ils auront été asservis, dit Dieu; et après cela ils sortiront, et me serviront en ce lieu-ci.
8 And He gave to him a covenant of circumcision, and so he begot Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac [begot] Jacob, and Jacob—the twelve patriarchs;
Puis il lui donna l'Alliance de la Circoncision; et après cela [Abraham] engendra Isaac, lequel il circoncit le huitième jour; et Isaac engendra Jacob, et Jacob les douze Patriarches.
9 and the patriarchs, having been moved with jealousy, sold Joseph to Egypt, and God was with him,
Et les Patriarches étant pleins d'envie vendirent Joseph [pour être mené] en Egypte; mais Dieu était avec lui;
10 and delivered him out of all his tribulations, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he set him—governor over Egypt and all his house.
Qui le délivra de toutes ses afflictions; et l'ayant rempli de sagesse il le rendit agréable à Pharaon, Roi d'Egypte, qui l'établit Gouverneur sur l'Egypte, et [sur] toute sa maison.
11 And there came a scarcity on all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great tribulation, and our fathers were not finding sustenance,
Or il survint dans tout le pays d'Egypte et en Canaan une famine et une grande angoisse; tellement que nos pères ne pouvaient trouver des vivres.
12 and Jacob having heard that there was grain in Egypt, sent forth our fathers a first time;
Mais quand Jacob eut ouï dire qu'il y avait du blé en Egypte, il y envoya pour la première fois nos pères.
13 and at the second time was Joseph made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became disclosed to Pharaoh,
Et [y étant retournés] une seconde fois, Joseph fut reconnu par ses frères, et la famille de Joseph fut déclarée à Pharaon.
14 and Joseph having sent, called for his father Jacob, and all his relatives—with seventy-five souls—
Alors Joseph envoya quérir Jacob son père, et toute sa famille, qui était soixante-quinze personnes.
15 and Jacob went down to Egypt, and died, himself and our fathers,
Jacob donc descendit en Egypte, et il y mourut, lui et nos pères;
16 and they were carried over into Shechem, and were laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in money from the sons of Emmor, of Shechem.
Qui furent transportés à Sichem, et mis dans le sépulcre qu'Abraham avait acheté à prix d'argent des fils d'Emmor, [fils] de Sichem.
17 And according as the time of the promise was drawing near, which God swore to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,
Mais comme le temps de la promesse pour laquelle Dieu avait juré à Abraham, s'approchait, le peuple s'augmenta et se multiplia en Egypte.
18 until another king rose, who had not known Joseph;
Jusqu'à ce qu'il parût en Egypte un autre Roi, qui n'avait point connu Joseph;
19 this one, having dealt subtly with our family, did evil to our fathers, causing to expose their babies, that they might not live;
Et qui usant de ruse contre notre nation, maltraita nos pères, jusqu'à leur faire exposer leurs enfants à l'abandon, afin d'en faire périr la race.
20 in which time Moses was born, and he was fair to God, and he was brought up [for] three months in the house of his father;
En ce temps-là naquit Moïse, qui fut divinement beau; et il fut nourri trois mois dans la maison de son père.
21 and he having been set outside, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and reared him to herself for a son;
Mais ayant été exposé à l'abandon, la fille de Pharaon l'emporta, et le nourrit pour soi comme son fils.
22 and Moses was taught in all wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was powerful in words and in works.
Et Moïse fut instruit dans toute la science des Egyptiens; et il était puissant en paroles et en actions.
23 And when forty years were fulfilled to him, it came on his heart to look after his brothers, the sons of Israel;
Mais quand il fut parvenu à l'âge de quarante ans, il forma le dessein d'aller visiter ses frères, les enfants d'Israël.
24 and having seen a certain one suffering injustice, he defended, and did justice to the oppressed, having struck the Egyptian;
Et voyant un d'eux à qui on faisait tort, il le défendit, et vengea celui qui était outragé, en tuant l'Egyptien.
25 and he was supposing his brothers to understand that God gives salvation through his hand; and they did not understand.
Or il croyait que ses frères comprendraient [par là] que Dieu les délivrerait par son moyen; mais ils ne le comprirent point.
26 On the succeeding day, also, he showed himself to them as they are striving, and urged them to peace, saying, Men, you are brothers, why do you do injustice to one another?
Et le jour suivant il se trouva entre eux comme ils se querellaient, et il tâcha de les mettre d'accord, [en leur] disant: hommes, vous êtes frères, pourquoi vous faites-vous tort l'un à l'autre?
27 And he who is doing injustice to the neighbor, thrusted him away, saying, Who set you a ruler and a judge over us?
Mais celui qui faisait tort à son prochain, le rebuta, lui disant: qui t'a établi Prince et Juge sur nous?
28 Do you wish to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?
Me veux-tu tuer, comme tu tuas hier l'Egyptien?
29 And Moses fled at this word, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begot two sons,
Alors Moïse s'enfuit sur un tel discours, et fut étranger dans le pays de Madian, où il eut deux fils.
30 and forty years having been fulfilled, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai [the] Messenger of the LORD, in a flame of fire of a bush,
Et quarante ans étant accomplis, l'Ange du Seigneur lui apparut au désert de la montagne de Sinaï, dans une flamme de feu qui était en un buisson.
31 and Moses having seen, wondered at the sight; and he drawing near to behold, there came a voice of the LORD to him,
Et quand Moïse le vit, il fut étonné de la vision, et comme il approchait pour considérer ce que c'était, la voix du Seigneur lui fut adressée,
32 I [am] the God of your fathers; the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses having become terrified, did not dare behold,
[Disant]: je suis le Dieu de tes pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, et le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob. Et Moïse tout tremblant n'osait considérer ce que c'était.
33 and the LORD said to him, Loose the sandal of your feet, for the place in which you have stood is holy ground;
Et le Seigneur lui dit: déchausse les souliers de tes pieds: car le lieu où tu es, est une terre sainte.
34 seeing I have seen the affliction of My people that [is] in Egypt, and I heard their groaning, and came down to deliver them; and now come, I will send you to Egypt.
J'ai vu, j'ai vu l'affliction de mon peuple qui est en Egypte, et j'ai ouï leur gémissement, et je suis descendu pour les délivrer: maintenant donc viens; je t'enverrai en Egypte.
35 This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who set you a ruler and a judge? This one God sent [as] a ruler and a redeemer, by the hand of [the] Messenger who appeared to him in the bush;
Ce Moïse, lequel ils avaient rejeté, en disant: qui t'a établi Prince et Juge? c'est celui que [Dieu] envoya pour Prince et pour libérateur par le moyen de l'Ange qui lui était apparu au buisson.
36 this one brought them forth, having done wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years;
C'est celui qui les tira dehors, en faisant des miracles et des prodiges dans la mer Rouge, et au désert par quarante ans.
37 this is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel: The LORD your God will raise up to you a Prophet out of your brothers, like to me, Him will you hear.
C'est ce Moïse qui a dit aux enfants d'Israël: le Seigneur votre Dieu vous suscitera un Prophète tel que moi d'entre vos frères; écoutez-le.
38 This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the Messenger who is speaking to him in Mount Sinai, and with our fathers who received the living oracles to give to us;
C'est celui qui fut en l'assemblée au désert avec l'Ange qui lui parlait sur la montagne de Sinaï, et qui fut avec nos pères, et reçut les paroles de vie pour nous les donner.
39 to whom our fathers did not wish to become obedient, but thrusted away, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,
Auquel nos pères ne voulurent point obéir, mais ils le rejetèrent, et se détournèrent en leur cœur [pour retourner] en Egypte,
40 saying to Aaron, Make to us gods who will go on before us, for this Moses, who brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, we have not known what has happened to him.
Disant à Aaron: fais-nous des dieux qui aillent devant nous; car nous ne savons point ce qui est arrivé à ce Moïse qui nous a amenés hors du pays d'Egypte.
41 And they made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their hands,
Ils firent donc en ces jours-là un veau, et ils offrirent des sacrifices à l'idole, et se réjouirent dans les œuvres de leurs mains.
42 and God turned, and gave them up to do service to the host of Heaven, according as it has been written in the scroll of the Prophets: Did you offer slain beasts and sacrifices to Me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
C'est pourquoi aussi Dieu se détourna [d'eux], et les abandonna à servir l'armée du ciel, ainsi qu'il est écrit au Livre des Prophètes: maison d'Israël, m'avez-vous offert des sacrifices et des oblations pendant quarante ans au désert?
43 And you took up the dwelling place of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan—the figures that you made to worship them, and I will remove your dwelling beyond Babylon.
Mais vous avez porté le tabernacle de Moloc, et l'étoile de votre dieu Remphan; qui sont des figures que vous avez faites pour les adorer; c'est pourquoi je vous transporterai au delà de Babylone.
44 The Dwelling Place of the Testimony was among our fathers in the wilderness, according as He directed, who is speaking to Moses, to make it according to the figure that he had seen;
Le Tabernacle du témoignage a été avec nos pères au désert, comme avait ordonné celui qui avait dit à Moïse, de le faire selon le modèle qu'il en avait vu.
45 which also our fathers having in succession received, brought in with Joshua, into the possession of the nations whom God drove out from the presence of our fathers, until the days of David,
Et nos pères ayant reçu [ce Tabernacle], ils le portèrent sous la conduite de Josué au pays qui était possédé par les nations que Dieu chassa de devant nos pères, [où il demeura] jusqu'aux jours de David;
46 who found favor before God, and requested to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob;
Qui trouva grâce devant Dieu et qui demanda de pouvoir dresser un Tabernacle au Dieu de Jacob.
47 and Solomon built Him a house.
Et Salomon lui bâtit une maison.
48 But the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, according as the prophet says:
Mais le Souverain n'habite point dans des temples faits de main, selon ces paroles du Prophète:
49 Heaven [is] My throne, And the earth My footstool, What house will you build to Me? Says the LORD; Or what [is] the place of My rest?
Le ciel est mon trône, et la terre est le marchepied de mes pieds: quelle maison me bâtirez-vous, dit le Seigneur, ou quel pourrait être le lieu de mon repos?
50 Has My hand not made all these things?
Ma main n'a-t-elle pas fait toutes ces choses?
51 You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and in ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers—also you;
Gens de cou roide, et incirconcis de cœur et d'oreilles, vous vous obstinez toujours contre le Saint-Esprit; vous faites comme vos pères ont fait.
52 which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who declared before about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers,
Lequel des Prophètes vos pères n'ont-ils point persécuté? ils ont même tué ceux qui ont prédit l'avénement du Juste, duquel maintenant vous avez été les traîtres et les meurtriers,
53 who received the Law by arrangement of messengers, and did not keep [it].”
Vous qui avez reçu la Loi par la disposition des Anges, et qui ne l'avez point gardée.
54 And hearing these things, they were cut to the hearts, and gnashed the teeth at him;
En entendant ces choses, leur cœur s'enflamma de colère et ils grinçaient les dents contre lui.
55 and being full of the Holy Spirit, having looked steadfastly to the sky, he saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Mais lui étant rempli du Saint-Esprit, et ayant les yeux attachés au ciel, vit la gloire de Dieu, et Jésus étant à la droite de Dieu.
56 and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens having been opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God.”
Et il dit: voici, je vois les cieux ouverts, [et] le Fils de l'homme étant à la droite de Dieu.
57 And they, having cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and rushed with one accord on him,
Alors ils s'écrièrent à haute voix, et bouchèrent leurs oreilles, et tous d'un accord ils se jetèrent sur lui.
58 and having cast him forth outside of the city, they were stoning [him]—and the witnesses put down their garments at the feet of a young man called Saul—
Et l'ayant tiré hors de la ville, ils le lapidèrent; et les témoins mirent leurs vêtements aux pieds d'un jeune homme nommé Saul.
59 and they were stoning Stephen, [as he was] calling and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit”;
Et ils lapidaient Etienne, qui priait et disait: Seigneur Jésus! reçois mon esprit.
60 and having bowed the knees, he cried with a loud voice, “LORD, may You not lay to them this sin”; and having said this, he fell asleep.
Et s'étant mis à genoux, il cria, à haute voix: Seigneur, ne leur impute point ce péché; et quand il eut dit cela, il s'endormit.
