Acts 6
1 And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministry,
Et en ces jours-là, comme les disciples se multipliaient, il s'éleva un murmure des Grecs contre les Hébreux, sur ce que leurs veuves étaient méprisées dans le service ordinaire.
2 and the Twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, “It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, minister at tables;
C'est pourquoi les Douze ayant appelé la multitude des disciples, dirent: il n'est pas raisonnable que nous laissions la parole de Dieu pour servir aux tables.
3 look out, therefore, brothers, seven men of you who are testified well of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,
Regardez donc, mes frères, de choisir sept hommes d'entre vous, de qui on ait bon témoignage, pleins du Saint-Esprit et de sagesse, auxquels nous commettions cette affaire.
4 and we to prayer, and to the ministry of the word, will give ourselves continually.”
Et pour nous, nous continuerons de vaquer à la prière, et à l'administration de la parole.
5 And the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,
Et ce discours plut à toute l'assemblée qui était là présente; et ils élurent Etienne, homme plein de foi et du Saint-Esprit, et Philippe, et Prochore, et Nicanor, et Timon, et Parménas, et Nicolas, prosélyte d'Antioche.
6 whom they set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid [their] hands on them.
Et ils les présentèrent aux Apôtres; qui, après avoir prié, leur imposèrent les mains.
7 And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude of the priests were also obedient to the faith.
Et la parole de Dieu croissait, et le nombre des disciples se multipliait beaucoup dans Jérusalem; un grand nombre aussi de Sacrificateurs obéissait à la foi.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,
Or Etienne plein de foi et de puissance, faisait de grands miracles et de grands prodiges parmi le peuple.
9 and there arose certain of those of the synagogue, the [one] called Libertines (and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia), disputing with Stephen,
Et quelques-uns de la Synagogue appelée [la Synagogue] des Libertins, et [de celle] des Cyréniens, et [de celle] des Alexandrins, et de ceux qui [étaient] de Cilicie, et d'Asie, se levèrent pour disputer contre Etienne.
10 and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking;
Mais ils ne pouvaient résister à la sagesse et à l'Esprit par lequel il parlait.
11 then they suborned men, saying, “We have heard him speaking slanderous sayings in regard to Moses and God.”
Alors ils subornèrent des hommes, qui disaient: nous lui avons ouï proférer des paroles blasphématoires contre Moïse et contre Dieu.
12 They also stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come on [him], they caught him, and brought [him] to the Sanhedrin;
Et ils soulevèrent le peuple, et les Anciens, et les Scribes, et se jetant sur lui, ils l'enlevèrent, et l'amenèrent dans le Conseil.
13 they also set up false witnesses, saying, “This one does not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the Law,
Et ils présentèrent de faux témoins, qui disaient: cet homme ne cesse de proférer des paroles blasphématoires contre ce saint Lieu et [contre] la Loi.
14 for we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarean will overthrow this place, and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us”;
Car nous lui avons ouï dire que ce Jésus le Nazarien détruira ce Lieu-ci, et qu'il changera les ordonnances que Moïse nous a données.
15 and gazing at him, all those sitting in the Sanhedrin saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.
Et comme tous ceux qui étaient assis dans le Conseil avaient les yeux arrêtés sur lui, ils virent son visage comme le visage d'un Ange.
