Joel 3
1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I will cause to return the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
Car voici qu’en ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, où je ramènerai les captifs de Juda et de Jérusalem,
2 Then will I assemble all the nations, and I will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and I will hold judgment with them there because of my people and my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and for my land [which] they have divided out.
j’assemblerai toutes les nations, et je les ferai descendre dans la vallée de Josaphat; et là j’entrerai en jugement avec elles, au sujet de mon peuple et de mon héritage d’Israël, qu’elles ont dispersé parmi les nations, et de mon pays qu’elles ont partagé.
3 And for my people did they cast lots; and gave a boy for a harlot, and sold a girl for wine, and drank it.
Car ils ont jeté le sort sur mon peuple, ils ont donné le jeune garçon pour une courtisane, et ils ont vendu la jeune fille pour du vin, et ils ont bu.
4 And also ye, what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all ye districts of Philistia? is this the recompense which ye repay me? or do ye only commence to render me evil?— swiftly and speedily will I bring back your recompense upon your own head;
Et vous aussi, qu’êtes-vous pour moi, Tyr et Sidon, et tous les districts de Philistie? Est-ce que vous tireriez de moi une vengeance? Que si vous me provoquez, je ferai vite, promptement retomber votre provocation sur votre tête;
5 Because my silver and my gold have ye taken, and the handsomest of my precious things have ye carried into your temples;
vous qui avez pris mon argent et mon or, et qui avez emporté dans vos temples mes joyaux les plus précieux;
6 And the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the sons of the Jevanim, in order to remove them far from their borders.
vous qui avez vendu aux fils de Javan, les fils de Juda et les fils de Jérusalem, pour qu’on les éloigne de leur pays!
7 Behold, I will awaken them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and I will bring back your recompense upon your own head;
Voici que je vais les faire lever du lieu où vous les avez vendus, et je ferai retomber votre provocation sur votre tête.
8 And I will deliver your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a nation far off; for the Lord hath spoken it.
Je vendrai vos fils et vos filles aux mains des enfants de Juda, qui les vendront aux Sabéens, à un peuple lointain; car Yahweh a parlé.
9 Proclaim ye this among the nations, Prepare war, wake up the mighty men; let them draw near; let them come up—all the men of war.
Publiez ceci parmi les nations: Préparez la guerre! Faites lever les vaillants! Qu’ils s’approchent, qu’ils montent, tous les hommes de guerre!
10 Beat your plough-shares into swords, and your pruning-knives into spears: let the weak say, I am a hero.
De vos socs forgez des épées, et de vos serpes des lances; que le faible dise: « Je suis un brave! »
11 Assemble hastily together, and come, all ye nations from every side, and gather yourselves together: there doth the Lord strike down thy mighty ones.
Hâtez-vous et venez, vous toutes, nations d’alentour, et rassemblez-vous! Là même, Yahweh, faites descendre vos braves!
12 Let the nations awake, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat; for there will I sit to judge all the nations from every side.
Que les nations se lèvent et qu’elles montent à la vallée de Josaphat! Car c’est là que je siégerai pour juger toutes les nations d’alentour.
13 Put forth the sickle; for the harvest is ripe: come, tread down [the grapes]; for the press is full; the vats overflow; for great is their wickedness.
Mettez la faucille, car la moisson est mûre; venez, foulez, car le pressoir est rempli; les cuves regorgent, car leur méchanceté est grande.
14 Multitudes, multitudes are in the valley of decision; for near is the day of the Lord in the valley of decision.
Des foules, des foules dans la vallée de la décision!
15 Sun and moon are obscured, and stars withdraw their brightness.
Le soleil et la lune se sont obscurcis, et les étoiles ont perdu leur éclat.
16 And the Lord will cry aloud out of Zion, and from Jerusalem will he send forth his voice; and the heavens and the earth shall quake; but the Lord will be a refuge for his people, and a stronghold for the children of Israel.
De Sion Yahweh rugira, de Jérusalem il fera entendre sa voix; les cieux et la terre trembleront. Mais Yahweh sera un refuge pour son peuple, une retraite pour les enfants d’Israël.
17 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God, dwelling on Zion, my holy mount: and Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall not pass through her any more.
Et vous saurez que je suis Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui habite Sion, ma montagne sainte; Jérusalem sera un sanctuaire, et les étrangers n’y passeront plus.
18 And it came to pass on that day, that the mountains shall drop down sweet new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the ravines of Judah shall flow with water; and a spring shall come forth out of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.
En ce jour-là, les montagnes dégoutteront de vin nouveau, les collines ruisselleront de lait, et tous les torrents de Juda ruisselleront d’eau. Une source sortira de la maison de Yahweh, et elle arrosera la vallée des Acacias.
19 Egypt shall become a desolate land, and Edom shall become a desolate wilderness; because of the violence against the children of Judah, in whose land they have shed innocent blood.
L’Égypte deviendra une terre dévastée, Edom un désert de dévastation, à cause des violences commises contre les enfants de Juda, parce qu’ils ont répandu dans leur pays le sang innocent.
20 But Judah shall be inhabited for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
Mais Juda sera habité éternellement, et Jérusalem d’âge en âge.
21 And I will avenge their blood that I have not yet avenged; for the Lord dwelleth in Zion.
Et je laverai leur sang que je n’avais pas encore lavé. Et Yahweh habitera en Sion.
