Joel 2
1 Blow ye the cornet in Zion, and sound an alarm on my holy mount; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh;
Sonnez du cor en Sion, et sonnez de la trompette sur ma sainte montagne! Que tous les habitants du pays tremblent, car le jour de Yahweh vient, car il est proche!
2 It is a day of darkness and of gloom, a day of clouds and of tempestuous obscurity, like the morning-dawn spread out upon the mountains: a people numerous and strong, the like of which hath never been and after it there will be none any more, even to the years of all coming generations.
Jour de ténèbres et d’obscurité, jour de nuages et de sombre nuée! Comme l’aurore qui s’étend sur les montagnes, un peuple vient, nombreux et fort, tel qu’il n’y en a jamais eu depuis l’origine, et qu’il n’y en aura pas après lui, jusqu’aux années des âges les plus lointains.
3 Before it devoureth a fire; and behind it singeth a flame: like the garden of 'Eden was the land before it [came], and after it is a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing escapeth from it.
Devant lui le feu dévore, et derrière lui la flamme brûle. Le pays est comme un jardin d’Éden devant lui, et derrière lui, c’est un désert dévasté; rien ne lui échappe.
4 Like the appearance of horses is its appearance; and like horsemen, so do they run.
Son aspect est comme l’aspect des chevaux, et ils courent comme des cavaliers.
5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains do they leap; they are like the noise of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, as a strong people arrayed for a battle.
On entend comme un bruit de chars, qui bondiraient sur les sommets des montagnes! c’est comme le bruit de la flamme de feu, qui dévore le chaume; c’est comme un peuple robuste, rangé en bataille.
6 At its presence the people are much pained: all the faces are covered with blackness.
Devant lui les peuples tremblent d’effroi, tous les visages pâlissent.
7 Like mighty men do they run; like men of war they climb up a wall; and they march every one on his own ways, and they turn not aside on their paths.
Ils courent comme des héros; ils escaladent la muraille comme des hommes de guerre; ils marchent chacun dans leurs sentiers, ils ne confondent pas leurs routes.
8 And they do not press one another; every one on his beaten track do they go forward: and they pass through between war-like weapons, and change not their purpose.
Ils ne se poussent pas les uns les autres, chacun va dans son chemin; ils se précipitent au travers des traits, et ils ne rompent pas leurs rangs.
9 Into the city they hasten forward; on the wall they run; into the houses they climb up; through the windows they make their entrance like a thief.
Ils se répandent dans la ville, ils courent sur le mur, ils montent dans les maisons; ils entrent par les fenêtres, comme le voleur.
10 Before them trembleth the earth; the heavens quake; the sun and the moon are obscured, and the stars withdraw their brightness.
Devant lui la terre tremble, les cieux s’ébranlent, le soleil et la lune s’obscurcissent, les étoiles perdent leur éclat.
11 And the Lord uttereth his voice before his army; for very numerous is his camp; for strong is he that executeth his word; for great is the day of the Lord and very terrible; and who is able to endure it?
Yahweh fait entendre sa voix à la tête de son armée; car immense est son camp, car puissant est l’exécuteur de sa parole. Car le jour de Yahweh est grand et très redoutable; et qui pourrait le soutenir?
12 But even now also, saith the Lord, return ye fully to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
Mais maintenant encore – oracle de Yahweh, revenez à moi de tout votre cœur, avec des jeûnes, avec des larmes et des lamentations.
13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and return unto the Lord your God; for gracious and merciful is he, long suffering, and of great kindness, and he bethinketh himself of the evil.
Déchirez vos cœurs, et non vos vêtements, et revenez à Yahweh, votre Dieu; car il est miséricordieux et compatissant, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et il s’afflige du mal qu’il envoie.
14 He that is conscious [of guilt], let him return and repent: when [the plague] may leave behind it a blessing; even a meat-offering and a drink-offering unto the Lord your God.
Qui sait s’il ne reviendra pas et ne se repentira pas, et s’il ne laissera pas après lui une bénédiction, l’offrande et la libation pour Yahweh, notre Dieu?
15 Blow the cornet in Zion, sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly;
Sonnez de la trompette en Sion, publiez un jeûne, convoquez une assemblée.
16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth out of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
Assemblez le peuple, publiez une sainte réunion, rassemblez les vieillards, réunissez les enfants et les nourrissons à la mamelle. Que le nouvel époux quitte sa chambre, et l’épouse son pavillon.
17 Between the porch and the altar let the priests weep, the ministers of the Lord, and let them say, Spare, O Lord, thy people, and give not up thy heritage to reproach, for nations to make a by-word of them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
Qu’entre le portique et l’autel, les prêtres, ministres de Yahweh, pleurent, et qu’ils disent: « Yahweh, épargnez votre peuple, et ne livrez pas votre héritage à l’opprobre, pour être l’objet des moqueries des nations. Pourquoi dirait-on parmi les peuples: Où est leur Dieu? »
18 And the Lord was zealous for his land, and he had pity for his people.
Yahweh a été ému de jalousie pour son pays, et il a eu pitié de son peuple.
19 And the Lord answered and said unto his people, “Behold, I will send you the corn, and the young wine, and the oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will not give you up any more to be a reproach among the nations:
Yahweh a répondu et dit à son peuple: Voici que je vais vous envoyer le blé, le vin nouveau et l’huile, et vous en serez rassasiés; et je ne ferai plus de vous un sujet d’opprobre parmi les nations.
20 And the host of the north will I remove far away from you, and I will drive it off into a land barren and desolate, with its advance toward the eastern sea, and its rereward toward the western sea; and its stench shall ascend, and its ill savor shall come up, because it hath done great things.”
Celui qui vient du septentrion, je l’éloignerai de vous, et je le chasserai vers une terre aride et déserte, l’avant garde vers la mer Orientale, l’arrière-garde vers la mer occidentale; il s’en élèvera une infection, et sa puanteur montera, car il a fait grand!
21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice; for the Lord hath done great things.
Terre, ne crains pas, sois dans l’allégresse et réjouis-toi; car Yahweh a fait grand!
22 Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness have become green; for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig-tree and the vine yield their strength.
Ne craignez point, bêtes des champs, car les pâturages du désert ont reverdi, car l’arbre porte son fruit, le figuier et la vigne donnent leurs richesses.
23 And ye children of Zion, be glad, and rejoice in the Lord your God; for he hath given you the first rain in beneficence, and he hath caused to come down for you the rain, the first rain, and the latter rain in the first [month].
Et vous, enfants de Sion, soyez dans l’allégresse et réjouissez-vous en Yahweh, votre Dieu; car il vous a donné le docteur pour vous enseigner la justice, et il fait descendre pour vous l’ondée, pluie d’automne et pluie du printemps, comme autrefois.
24 And the threshing-floors are full of corn, and the vats overflow with young wine and oil.
Vos aires se rempliront de froment, et les cuves regorgeront de vin nouveau et d’huile.
25 And I will repay to you the years [in] which the locust hath eaten [all], with the cankerworm, and the cricket, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I had sent against you.
Je vous compenserai les années qu’ont dévorées la sauterelle, le yélek, le chasil et le gazam, ma grande armée, que j’avais envoyée sur vous.
26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall not be made ashamed unto eternity.
Vous mangerez abondamment et vous serez rassasiés, et vous louerez le nom de Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui a fait pour vous des merveilles; et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais confus.
27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else; and my people shall not be made ashamed unto eternity.
Et vous saurez que je suis au milieu d’Israël! Moi, je suis Yahweh, votre Dieu, et il n’y en a pas d’autre, et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais confus!
28 And it shall come to pass after this, that I will pour out my spirit over all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: your old men shall dream dreams: your young men shall see visions:
Et il arrivera après cela que je répandrai mon Esprit sur toute chair. Et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, vos vieillards auront des songes, vos jeunes gens verront des visions.
29 And also over the men-servants and over the maid-servants in those days will I pour out my spirit.
Même sur les serviteurs et sur les servantes, en ces jours-là je répandrai mon esprit.
30 And I will display wonderful tokens in the heavens and on the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
Je ferai paraître des prodiges dans les cieux et sur la terre, du sang, du feu et des colonnes de fumée.
31 The sun shall be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord, the great and the terrible.
Le soleil se changera en ténèbres, et la lune en sang, avant que vienne le jour de Yahweh, grand et terrible.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall escape; for on mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and among the remnant whom the Lord calleth.
Et quiconque invoquera le nom de Yahweh sera sauvé; car sur la montagne de Sion et de Jérusalem, il y aura une réunion de sauvés, comme l’a dit Yahweh, et parmi les survivants que Yahweh appelle!
