Exodus 5
1 And after this went in Moses and Aaron to Pharao, and they said to him, These things says the Lord God of Israel, Send my people away, that they may keep a feast to me in the wilderness.
Sidan gjekk Moses og Aron fram for Farao og sagde: «So segjer Herren, Israels Gud: «Lat folket mitt fara, so dei kann halda høgtid for meg i øydemarki!»»
2 And Pharao said, Who is he that I should listen to his voice, so that I should send away the children of Israel? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.
Då sagde Farao: «Kva er det for ein «Herre» som eg skal lyda, og lata Israel fara? Eg kjenner ikkje den «Herren», og eg vil ikkje lata Israel fara heller.»
3 And they say to him, The God of the Hebrews has called us to him: we will go therefore a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest at any time death or slaughter happen to us.
«Hebræarguden hev møtt oss!» svara dei. «Gode, gjev oss lov å fara tri dagsleider ut i øydemarki og ofra til Herren, vår Gud, so han ikkje skal koma yver oss med sott eller sverd!»
4 And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do you, Moses and Aaron, turn the people from their works? depart each of you to your works.
Då sagde egyptarkongen til deim: «Moses og Aron, kvi hefter de folket burt frå det dei hev å gjera? Gakk til arbeidet dykkar!
5 And Pharao said, Behold now, the people is very numerous; let us not then give them rest from their work.
De ser kor mykje folk her er i landet no, » sagde Farao, «og so vil de lokka deim til å leggja ned arbeidet sitt!»
6 And Pharao gave orders to the taskmasters of the people and the accountants, saying,
Og same dagen sagde Farao det til futarne og formennerne for arbeidsfolket:
7 You shall no longer give straw to the people for brick-making as yesterday and the third day; but let them go themselves, and collect straw for themselves.
«Heretter skal de ikkje gjeva folket halm til mursteinen, som de fyrr hev gjort. Dei skal sjølve ganga og sanka seg halm.
8 And you shall impose on them daily the rate of brick-making which they perform: you shall not abate anything, for they are idle; therefore have they cried, saying, Let us arise and do sacrifice to our God.
Men like mykje murstein skal de krevja av deim no som fyrr; de skal ikkje slå av på talet. For dei er late; difor skrik dei og segjer: «Me vil av og ofra til Guden vår.»
9 Let the works of these men be made grievous, and let them care for these things, and not care for vain words.
Legg tyngre arbeid på kararne, so dei hev nok å gjera, og ikkje fer etter lygjerødor!»
10 And the taskmasters and the accountants hastened them, and they spoke to the people, saying, thus says Pharao, I [will] give you straw no longer.
So gjekk futarne og arbeidsformennerne ut, og sagde til folket: «So segjer Farao: «Eg gjev dykk ikkje halm lenger.
11 Go you, yourselves, get for yourselves straw whenever you can find it, for nothing is diminished from your rate.
Gakk sjølve og finn dykk halm kvar de kann! Men i arbeidet dykkar fær de ikkje noko avslag.»»
12 So the people were dispersed in all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw.
Då spreidde folket seg utyver heile Egyptarland, og sanka helma til å bruka i staden for halmen.
13 and the taskmasters hastened them, saying, Fulfil your regular daily tasks, even as when straw was given you.
Men futarne dreiv på og sagde: «Gjer arbeidet dykkar ferdigt, fullt dagsverk til kvar dag, som då de hadde halm for hand!»
14 And the accountants of the race of the children of Israel, who were set over them by the masters of Pharao, were scourged, [[and questioned, ] men] saying, Why have you not fulfilled your rates of brick work as yesterday and the third day, today also?
Og arbeidsformennerne som futarne åt Farao hadde sett yver Israels-folket, fekk hogg, og futarne sagde: «Kvi hev de ikkje gjort ifrå dykk ålaget dykkar anten i går eller i dag, som de fyrr gjorde?»
15 And the accountants of the children of Israel went in and cried to Pharao, saying, Why do you act thus to your servants?
Då gjekk arbeidsformennerne til Farao, og kjærde seg for honom og sagde: «Kvi fer du soleis med tenarane dine?
16 Straw is not given to your servants, and they tell us to make brick; and behold your servants have been scourged: you will therefore injure your people.
Halm fær me ikkje, og like vel segjer dei til oss: «Gjer murstein!» Og so fær me hogg, endå det er dine folk som hev skuldi.»
17 And he said to them, You are idle, you are idlers: therefore you say, Let us go [and] do sacrifice to our God.
Men han sagde: «Late er de, late! Difor segjer de: «Me vil av og ofra til Herren!»
18 Now then go and work, for straw shall not be given to you, yet you shall return the rate of bricks.
Gakk no av og arbeid! Og halm fær de ikkje, men mursteinen skal de greida, talet fullt!»
19 And the accountants of the children of Israel saw themselves in an evil plight, [men] saying, You shall not fail to deliver the daily rate of the brick-making.
Arbeidsformennerne vart ille ved, då dei fekk høyra dei ordi: «De fær ikkje noko avslag på mursteinen dykkar, fullt dagsverk til kvar dag!»
20 And they met Moses and Aaron coming forth to meet them, as they came forth from Pharao.
Då dei kom ut att frå Farao, møtte dei Moses og Aron, som stod og venta på deim.
21 And they said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge you, for you have made our savor abominable before Pharao, and before his servants, to put a sword into his hands to kill us.
Då sagde dei med deim: «Herren setje augo på dykk, og late dykk få like for di de hev gjort Farao og mennerne hans hatige på oss, og gjeve deim sverdet i handi til å drepa oss med!»
22 And Moses turned to the Lord, and said, I pray, Lord, why have you afflicted this people? and therefore have you sent me?
Og Moses vende seg atter til Herren og sagde: «Herre, kvi fer du so ille med dette folket? Kvi hev du då sendt meg?
23 For from the time that I went to Pharao to speak in your name, he has afflicted this people, and you have not delivered your people.
For alt ifrå den stund eg gjekk fram for Farao og tala i ditt namn, hev han ikkje gjort anna enn vondt mot dette folket, og du hev ikkje hjelpt folket ditt ein grand.»
