Proverbs 25
1 These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Estos también son proverbios de Salomón, que los hombres de Ezequías, rey de Judá, copiaron.
2 [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings [is] to search out a matter.
Es la gloria de Dios ocultar una cosa, pero la gloria de los reyes es buscar un asunto.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
Como los cielos en altura y la tierra en profundidad, así que el corazón de los reyes es inescrutable.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
Quita la escoria de la plata, y sale material para el refinador.
5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Aleja a los malvados de la presencia del rey, y su trono será establecido en la justicia.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men: ]
No te exaltes en presencia del rey, o reclamar un lugar entre los grandes hombres;
7 For better [it is] that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
porque es mejor que se te diga: “Sube aquí”. que ser rebajado en presencia del príncipe, que tus ojos han visto.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
No te precipites a la hora de presentar cargos ante los tribunales. ¿Qué harás al final cuando tu vecino te avergüence?
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour [himself; ] and discover not a secret to another:
Debate tu caso con tu vecino, y no traicionar la confianza de otro,
10 Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
para que quien lo oiga no te avergüence, y tu mala reputación nunca se aleja.
11 A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Una palabra bien dicha es como las manzanas de oro en los engastes de plata.
12 [As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Como un pendiente de oro, y un adorno de oro fino, así es un sabio reprendedor para un oído obediente.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Como el frío de la nieve en el tiempo de la cosecha, así es un mensajero fiel a los que le envían; porque refresca el alma de sus amos.
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
Como nubes y viento sin lluvia, así es el que presume de dones engañosamente.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Con la paciencia se persuade al gobernante. Una lengua blanda rompe el hueso.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
¿Has encontrado miel? Come todo lo que sea suficiente para ti, para que no comas demasiado y lo vomites.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
Que tu pie esté rara vez en la casa de tu vecino, para que no se canse de ti y te odie.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
El hombre que da falso testimonio contra su prójimo es como un garrote, una espada o una flecha afilada.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Confianza en alguien infiel en tiempos de dificultad es como un diente malo o un pie cojo.
20 [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so [is] he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
Como quien se quita una prenda en tiempo de frío, o vinagre sobre soda, así es el que canta canciones a un corazón pesado.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer. Si tiene sed, dale de beber agua;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
porque amontonarás ascuas de fuego sobre su cabeza, y Yahvé te recompensará.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
El viento del norte produce lluvia; por lo que una lengua maliciosa trae una cara enojada.
24 [It is] better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
Es mejor habitar en el rincón de la azotea que compartir una casa con una mujer contenciosa.
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
Como agua fría al alma sedienta, por lo que son buenas noticias de un país lejano.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Como un manantial enturbiado y un pozo contaminado, así es el justo que cede ante el malvado.
27 [It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
No es bueno comer mucha miel, ni es honorable buscar el propio honor.
28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
Como una ciudad derruida y sin muros es un hombre cuyo espíritu no tiene freno.
