1 Peter 4
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
キリスト既に肉身に於て苦しみ給ひたれば、汝等も亦同じ心得を以て武器とせよ。蓋肉身に苦しみたる人は、是罪を罷めたるものにして、
2 That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
最早人の慾に從はず、神の思召に從ひて肉體に殘れる時を過ごさんとするものなり。
3 For the time past of [our] life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
蓋我等既往に於ては、異邦人の望を全うして、淫亂、情慾、酔狂、暴食、暴飲及び邪なる偶像崇拝に生活せし事にて足れり。
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:
彼等は汝等が同様なる放蕩の極に走らざるを怪しみて之を罵れども、
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
今已に生者と死者とを審判せんとして待設け給へる者に報告し奉るべし。
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
蓋福音が死者にも宣傳へられしは之が為、即ち死者が人の通例に從ひて、肉身は審判を受けたりとも、霊は神によりて活きん為なり。
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
第一項 現に守るべき行状。 第三編 キリスト教會の内面の生活に関する勧。 萬物の終は已に近づけり、然れば汝等慎み祈りつつ警戒せよ。
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
何事よりも先に互に厚き愛を有せよ、愛は多くの罪を覆へばなり。
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
苦情なく相接待し、
10 As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
各受けたる賜に應じて神の様々なる恩寵の善き分配者として、互に之を供給せよ。
11 If any man speak, [let him speak] as the oracles of God; if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
即ち人語る時は神の御言を語るが如くし、務むる時は神の賜へる能力を以てするが如くすべし。是神が一切に於てイエズス、キリストを以て尊ばれ給はん為にして、光榮と主権と世々之に歸す、アメン。 (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
至愛なる者よ、汝等を試みんとする火の如き苦を、新奇なるものの到來せるが如くに怪しむ勿れ、
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
却てキリストの苦に與る者として喜べ、是其光榮の顕れん時、汝も亦喜に耐へざらん為なり。
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
汝等若キリストの御名の為に侮辱せらるる事あらば福なるべし、其は光榮の霊、即ち神の霊汝等の上に止り給へばなり。
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
然れど或は人殺、或は盗人、或は惡漢、或は他人の事に立入る者として苦しめらるる者は、汝等の中に一人も之あるべからず。
16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
若キリスト信者として苦しめられなば耻づる事なく、却て此名に對して神に光榮を歸し奉るべし。
17 For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?
蓋時は來れり、審判は神の家より始まらんとす、若我等より始まらば、神の福音を信ぜざる人々の果は如何に成るべき。
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
若又義人にして辛く救はれなば、敬虔ならざる者と罪人とは何處にか立つべき。
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [to him] in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
然れは神の思召に從ひて苦しむ人々は善を為して、眞實にて在す造物主に其魂を頼み奉るべきなり。
