< Luke 23 >
1 And all the multitude of them rising up, lead Him to Pilate.
Ibandla lonke laseliphakama lamqhuba lamusa kuPhilathu.
2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found Him perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He is Christ, a King.
Basebemethesa icala besithi, “Indoda le siyifice ixhwalisa isizwe sakithi. Iphikisana lokuthela imithelo kuKhesari njalo izenza uKhristu, inkosi.”
3 And Pilate asked Him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And responding to him, He said, Thou sayest it.
Ngakho uPhilathu wasembuza uJesu wathi, “Uyinkosi yamaJuda na?” “Kunjengoba usitsho,” waphendula uJesu.
4 And Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, I find nothing criminal in this man.
UPhilathu wasebikela abaphristi abakhulu kanye lexuku labantu wathi, “Kangiboni lutho lokwethesa umuntu lo icala.”
5 And they became stronger and stronger, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee unto this place.
Kodwa bagcizelela bathi, “Udunga abantu kulolonke elaseJudiya ngemfundiso yakhe. Waqalisa eGalile, usehambe wonke umango waze wazafika lapha.”
6 And Pilate hearing, asked if He is a Galilean man.
Esezwe lokhu uPhilathu wabuza ingabe indoda leyo yayingumGalile na.
7 And learning that He is from the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent Him up to Herod, being himself in Jerusalem in those days.
Esezwile ukuthi uJesu wayengaphansi kombuso kaHerodi wamthumela kuHerodi owayeseJerusalema ngalesosikhathi.
8 And Herod seeing Jesus, rejoiced exceedingly: for from a long time, wishing to see Him, because He was hearing about Him; and he was hoping to see some miracle wrought by Him.
UHerodi wathi embona uJesu wathaba kakhulu ngoba wayevele etshisekela ukumbona. Ethathela kulokho ayekuzwile ngaye, wayelindele ukumbona esenza omunye umangaliso.
9 And he asked Him with many words; and He responded to him nothing.
Wamjinga ngemibuzo, kodwa uJesu akaze amphendula.
10 But the high priest and scribes stood by, accusing Him vehemently.
Abaphristi abakhulu labafundisi bomthetho labo babemi khonapho bemangalela ngokuthukuthela.
11 But Herod along with his soldiers having indeed treated Him with contempt, and mocked Him, putting on Him a scarlet robe, sent Him back to Pilate.
UHerodi lamabutho akhe basebemchothoza njalo bamhoza. Bamgqokisa isigqoko esihle, basebembuyisela kuPhilathu.
12 And both Herod and Pilate on that day became friends with one another: for they were hitherto in enmity either to other.
Ngalelolanga uHerodi loPhilathu babangabangane kodwa mandulo kwalokhu babeyizitha.
13 Pilate having called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
UPhilathu wabizela ndawonye abaphristi abakhulu lababusi kanye labantu
14 said to them, You have brought to me this man, as revolutionizing the people: and behold, I, judging Him before you, found nothing in this man criminal of those things which you accuse against Him.
wathi kubo, “Lingilethele umuntu obekhuthaza abantu ukwenza umvukela. Sengimhlolile phambi kwenu, kodwa kangifumananga lutho kulokhu elimangalela khona.
15 But Herod did not: for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing worthy of death has been done by Him.
LoHerodi kafumananga lutho, ngoba usemphendukisile kithi; njengoba libona, kenzanga lutho olufanele ukuthi abulawe.
16 Therefore having scourged Him, I will release Him.
Ngakho ngizamjezisa nje besengimkhulula.” [
Kwakumele akhulule isibotshwa esisodwa esiyabe sikhethwe ngabantu mhla wedili.]
18 And they unanimously cried out, saying, Take Him away, and release unto us Barabbas:
Bamemeza ngalizwi linye bathi, “Msusele khatshana umuntu lo! Sikhululele uBharabhasi!”
19 who had been cast into prison on account of certain sedition made in the city, and murder.
(UBharabhasi wayephoselwe entolongweni ngenxa yokuvusa isiphithiphithi edolobheni langenxa yokubulala.)
20 Then Pilate again called to them, wishing to release Jesus.
Kwathi ngoba efuna ukumkhulula uJesu, uPhilathu waphinda wathi kabake bacabange njalo.
21 And they continued to shout aloud, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him.
Kodwa baqhubeka bememeza besithi, “Mbethele! Mbethele!”
22 And he spoke to them the third time, For what evil hath He done? I found nothing in Him worthy of death: therefore having scourged Him, I will release Him.
Waphinda wakhuluma labo okwesithathu wathi, “Ngani na? Umuntu lo wenze cala bani? Angiboni lutho kuye olungafanela isigwebo sokuthi abulawe. Ngakho-ke, ngizakuthi kajeziswe besengimkhulula.”
23 And they continued to lay on with great voices, demanding that He should be crucified: and the voices of them and the high priests continued to grow stronger.
Kodwa baklabalala beqinisa ukuba kabethelwe, lakanye ukugcizelela kwabo kwaphumelela.
24 And Pilate decided that their request should be granted.
Ngakho uPhilathu wasemisa ukwemukela izifiso zabo.
25 And released him who on account of sedition and murder had been cast into prison, and delivered up Jesus according to their wish.
Wayikhulula indoda leyo eyayiphoselwe entolongweni ngenxa yesiphithiphithi lokubulala, eyiyo abayicelayo, wanikela uJesu kubo ukuthi benze intando yabo.
26 And when they were leading Him away, taking a certain Simon, a Cyrenean, coming from the country, they placed the cross on him, to carry it after Jesus.
Bathi sebemqhuba babamba uSimoni waseKhureni owayesuka emaphandleni, bamethesa isiphambano bathi kasithwale ngemva kukaJesu.
27 And a great multitude of people followed Him, and of women who were both weeping and bewailing Him.
Walandelwa ngabantu abanengi kakhulu, kanye labesifazane ababemkhalela bebubula.
28 And Jesus turning to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and your children.
UJesu wanyemukula wathi kubo, “Madodakazi aseJerusalema, lingangikhaleli; zikhaleleni lina kanye labantwabenu.
29 Because behold, the days are coming, in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not bring forth, and the breasts that did not nurse.
Ngoba sizafika isikhathi lapho elizakuthi, ‘Babusisiwe abafazi abazinyumba, lezibeletho ezingazange zithwale kanye lamabele angazange amunyise!’
30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Hide us.
Lapho-ke ‘bazakuthi ezintabeni, “Sembeseni!” Lakuwo amaqaqa bathi, “Welani phezu kwethu!”’
31 Because if they do these things in the green tree, what may be done in the dry?
Ngoba nxa abantu bezenza lezizinto lapho isihlahla simanzi, kuzakwenzakalani pho nxa sesomile?”
32 And two malefactors were also led away with Him, to be executed.
Amanye amadoda amabili, onke ayeyizigebenga, lawo aqhutshwa kanye laye esiyabulawa.
33 And when they came to the place called Calvary. There they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right and one on the left.
Bathi sebefike endaweni ethiwa luKhakhayi bambethela esiphambanweni kanye lezigebenga lezo, omunye ngakwesokunene kwakhe, omunye ngakwesokhohlo.
34 And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. And dividing His garments, they were casting the lots.
UJesu wathi, “Baba, baxolele, ngoba kabakwazi abakwenzayo.” Njalo basebesabelana izigqoko zakhe ngokutshaya inkatho.
35 The people stood looking: and the rulers were even mocking with themselves, saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He is the Christ, the elect of God.
Abantu bema bakhangela, ababusi bona bamklolodela. Bathi, “Wasindisa abanye, laye kazisindise nxa enguKhristu kaNkulunkulu, oKhethiweyo.”
36 And the soldiers were also mocking, coming and bringing the vinegar to Him,
Amabutho lawo eza amklolodela. Amnika iwayini elimunyu
37 and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.
athi, “Nxa uyinkosi yamaJuda, zisindise.”
38 And the superscription was also over Him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Kwakulombhalo wokwazisa ngaphezulu kwakhe owawusithi: Lo yiNkosi yamaJuda.
39 And one of the malefactors having been hung up, continued to blaspheme Him, saying, If thou art the Christ, save thyself and us.
Omunye wezigebenga owayelenga khonapho wamthuka wathi, “Kanti kayisuwe uKhristu? Zisindise wena kanye lathi!”
40 But the other one responding, rebuked him saying, Do you not fear God, because you are in the same condemnation?
Kodwa esinye isigebenga samkhuza sathi, “Kawumesabi na uNkulunkulu, njengoba ulesigwebo sinye laye.
41 and we indeed justly; for we are receiving the deservings of the things we did: but this one has done nothing amiss.
Thina sijeziswa ngokusifaneleyo ngoba sizuza lokho okufanele izenzo zethu. Kodwa umuntu lo kenzanga lutho olungalunganga.”
42 And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou mayest come in thy kingdom.
Wasesithi, “Jesu, ungikhumbule nxa ungafika embusweni wakho.”
43 And Jesus said to him, Truly I say unto thee, This day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
UJesu wamphendula wathi, “Ngiyakutshela iqiniso ngithi, lamuhla uzakuba lami epharadise.”
44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
Kwasekuyisikhathi esingaba lihola lesithupha, ubumnyama bembesa lonke ilizwe kwaze kwaba lihola lesificamunwemunye,
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the middle.
ngoba ilanga lema ukukhanya. Ikhetheni lethempeli ladabuka kabili.
46 And calling with a loud voice, Jesus said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, He expired.
UJesu wamemeza ngelizwi elikhulu wathi, “Baba, ezandleni zakho nginikela umphefumulo wami.” Esekutshilo lokhu waphefumula okokucina.
47 And the centurion seeing that which took place, glorified God, saying, Surely this was a righteous man.
Induna yekhulu isibonile okwenzakeleyo yadumisa uNkulunkulu yathi, “Ngeqiniso lo ubeyindoda elungileyo.”
48 And all the multitudes being present at that scene, seeing those things which took place, were going away beating their breasts.
Kwathi bonke abantu ababebuthene ukuzabona isiga lesi sebebonile okwakwenzakele, bababuhlungu, babalosizi, babuyela emizini yabo.
49 And all His acquaintances stood a great way off and the women who having followed along with Him from Galilee, seeing these things.
Kodwa bonke ababemazi, kanye labesifazane abamlandela besuka laye eGalile, bema bucwala babukela okwakusenzakala.
50 And behold, there was a man by name Joseph, being a councilor, a good and righteous man,
Kwakukhona indoda eyayithiwa nguJosefa, elilunga loMphakathi, eyindoda elungileyo njalo eqondileyo,
51 (for he was not consenting unto their counsel and deed), from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who also himself was looking for the kingdom of God.
owayengakuvumanga lokho abakuqumayo labakwenzayo. Yena wayevela edolobheni lakoJuda okwakuthiwa yi-Arimathiya, njalo wayelindele umbuso kaNkulunkulu.
52 He having come to Pilate, begged the body of Jesus.
Waya kuPhilathu wayacela isidumbu sikaJesu.
53 And having taken it down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a hewn sepulcher, where no one ever was laid.
Wasesethula wasigoqela ngelembu lelineni, wasibeka ethuneni elaligujwe edwaleni lingakaze lilale muntu.
54 And it was Preparation day, and the Sabbath was drawing nigh.
Kwakulusuku lokuLungiselela, iSabatha selizaqalisa.
55 And the women, who had come along with him out of Galilee, having followed down, saw the sepulcher, and where His body was placed.
Abesifazane ababebuye loJesu esuka eGalile bamlandela uJosefa balibona ithuna lokuthi isidumbu sakhe salaliswa njani kulo.
56 And having returned, they prepared aromatics and myrrh: and they kept the Sabbath according to the commandment.
Basebebuyela ekhaya bayalungisa amagcobo lamakha. Kodwa baphumula ngeSabatha bethobela umlayo.
