Matthew 5
1 Now seeing the crowds He went up on the mountain, and upon His sitting down His disciples approached Him.
イエスはこの群衆を見て、山に登り、座につかれると、弟子たちがみもとに近寄ってきた。
2 And opening His mouth He started teaching them, saying:
そこで、イエスは口を開き、彼らに教えて言われた。
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
「こころの貧しい人たちは、さいわいである、天国は彼らのものである。
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
悲しんでいる人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは慰められるであろう。
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
柔和な人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは地を受けつぐであろう。
6 Blessed are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for they will be filled.
義に飢えかわいている人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは飽き足りるようになるであろう。
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
あわれみ深い人たちは、さいわいである、彼らはあわれみを受けるであろう。
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
心の清い人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは神を見るであろう。
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
平和をつくり出す人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは神の子と呼ばれるであろう。
10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
義のために迫害されてきた人たちは、さいわいである、天国は彼らのものである。
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and speak all kinds of evil against you, lying, because of Me.
わたしのために人々があなたがたをののしり、また迫害し、あなたがたに対し偽って様々の悪口を言う時には、あなたがたは、さいわいである。
12 Rejoice and exult, because your reward in the heavens is great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
喜び、よろこべ、天においてあなたがたの受ける報いは大きい。あなたがたより前の預言者たちも、同じように迫害されたのである。
13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes insipid with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing except to be thrown out and trampled down by the people.
あなたがたは、地の塩である。もし塩のききめがなくなったら、何によってその味が取りもどされようか。もはや、なんの役にも立たず、ただ外に捨てられて、人々にふみつけられるだけである。
14 You are the light of the world. A city located upon a hill cannot be hidden.
あなたがたは、世の光である。山の上にある町は隠れることができない。
15 Nor do they light a lamp and place it under the hamper, but on the lampstand, and it shines on everything in the house.
また、あかりをつけて、それを枡の下におく者はいない。むしろ燭台の上において、家の中のすべてのものを照させるのである。
16 So also let your light shine before the people, so that they may see your good works and may glorify your Father, who is in the heavens.
そのように、あなたがたの光を人々の前に輝かし、そして、人々があなたがたのよいおこないを見て、天にいますあなたがたの父をあがめるようにしなさい。
17 “Do not suppose that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
わたしが律法や預言者を廃するためにきた、と思ってはならない。廃するためではなく、成就するためにきたのである。
18 For assuredly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota nor one tittle shall pass away from the Law until everything happens.
よく言っておく。天地が滅び行くまでは、律法の一点、一画もすたることはなく、ことごとく全うされるのである。
19 Therefore, whoever annuls one of the least of these commandments and teaches that to the people will be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he will be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
それだから、これらの最も小さいいましめの一つでも破り、またそうするように人に教えたりする者は、天国で最も小さい者と呼ばれるであろう。しかし、これをおこないまたそう教える者は、天国で大いなる者と呼ばれるであろう。
20 For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees you will absolutely not enter the kingdom of the heavens!
わたしは言っておく。あなたがたの義が律法学者やパリサイ人の義にまさっていなければ、決して天国に、はいることはできない。
21 “You have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘You shall not murder, so whoever murders will be liable to the judgment.’
昔の人々に『殺すな。殺す者は裁判を受けねばならない』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。
22 But I say to you that whoever gets angry with his brother without cause will be liable to the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Numbskull!’ will be liable to the council. But whoever says, ‘You absolute idiot!’ will be liable to hell fire. (Geenna g1067)
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。兄弟に対して怒る者は、だれでも裁判を受けねばならない。兄弟にむかって愚か者と言う者は、議会に引きわたされるであろう。また、ばか者と言う者は、地獄の火に投げ込まれるであろう。 (Geenna g1067)
23 Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
だから、祭壇に供え物をささげようとする場合、兄弟が自分に対して何かうらみをいだいていることを、そこで思い出したなら、
24 leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled with your brother and then, returning, offer your gift.
その供え物を祭壇の前に残しておき、まず行ってその兄弟と和解し、それから帰ってきて、供え物をささげることにしなさい。
25 Be agreeable to your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest the adversary hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
あなたを訴える者と一緒に道を行く時には、その途中で早く仲直りをしなさい。そうしないと、その訴える者はあなたを裁判官にわたし、裁判官は下役にわたし、そして、あなたは獄に入れられるであろう。
26 Assuredly I say to you, you will by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
よくあなたに言っておく。最後の一コドラントを支払ってしまうまでは、決してそこから出てくることはできない。
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
『姦淫するな』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。
28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。だれでも、情欲をいだいて女を見る者は、心の中ですでに姦淫をしたのである。
29 So if your right eye is causing you to fall, tear it out and throw it away; because it is better for you that one of your members perish than that your whole body be thrown into hell. (Geenna g1067)
もしあなたの右の目が罪を犯させるなら、それを抜き出して捨てなさい。五体の一部を失っても、全身が地獄に投げ入れられない方が、あなたにとって益である。 (Geenna g1067)
30 And if your right hand is causing you to fall, cut it off and throw it away; because it is better for you that one of your members perish than that your whole body be thrown into hell. (Geenna g1067)
もしあなたの右の手が罪を犯させるなら、それを切って捨てなさい。五体の一部を失っても、全身が地獄に落ち込まない方が、あなたにとって益である。 (Geenna g1067)
31 It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
また『妻を出す者は離縁状を渡せ』と言われている。
32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for a case of fornication, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。だれでも、不品行以外の理由で自分の妻を出す者は、姦淫を行わせるのである。また出された女をめとる者も、姦淫を行うのである。
33 “Again you have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not swear falsely, but you shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’
また昔の人々に『いつわり誓うな、誓ったことは、すべて主に対して果せ』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。
34 But I say to you not to swear at all: neither by heaven, because it is God's throne;
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。いっさい誓ってはならない。天をさして誓うな。そこは神の御座であるから。
35 nor by the earth, because it is a stool for His feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.
また地をさして誓うな。そこは神の足台であるから。またエルサレムをさして誓うな。それは『大王の都』であるから。
36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
また、自分の頭をさして誓うな。あなたは髪の毛一すじさえ、白くも黒くもすることができない。
37 But let your word be ‘yes yes’, ‘no no’; for whatever is more than these is from the malignant one.
あなたがたの言葉は、ただ、しかり、しかり、否、否、であるべきだ。それ以上に出ることは、悪から来るのである。
38 “You have heard that it was said: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
『目には目を、歯には歯を』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。
39 But I say to you not to resist the evildoer; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。悪人に手向かうな。もし、だれかがあなたの右の頬を打つなら、ほかの頬をも向けてやりなさい。
40 “And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have the cloak as well.
あなたを訴えて、下着を取ろうとする者には、上着をも与えなさい。
41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
もし、だれかが、あなたをしいて一マイル行かせようとするなら、その人と共に二マイル行きなさい。
42 Give to him who asks you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
求める者には与え、借りようとする者を断るな。
43 “You have heard that it was said: ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
『隣り人を愛し、敵を憎め』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。
44 But I say to you: love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。敵を愛し、迫害する者のために祈れ。
45 that you may prove to be sons of your Father in the heavens; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust.
こうして、天にいますあなたがたの父の子となるためである。天の父は、悪い者の上にも良い者の上にも、太陽をのぼらせ、正しい者にも正しくない者にも、雨を降らして下さるからである。
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
あなたがたが自分を愛する者を愛したからとて、なんの報いがあろうか。そのようなことは取税人でもするではないか。
47 And if you greet only your friends, what are you doing extra? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
兄弟だけにあいさつをしたからとて、なんのすぐれた事をしているだろうか。そのようなことは異邦人でもしているではないか。
48 Therefore, you be perfect just as your Father in the heavens is perfect.
それだから、あなたがたの天の父が完全であられるように、あなたがたも完全な者となりなさい。
