Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tested by the devil.
さて、イエスは御霊によって荒野に導かれた。悪魔に試みられるためである。
2 And having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
そして、四十日四十夜、断食をし、そののち空腹になられた。
3 And coming to Him the tempter said, “Since you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.”
すると試みる者がきて言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、これらの石がパンになるように命じてごらんなさい」。
4 But in answer He said, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word coming out of God's mouth.’”
イエスは答えて言われた、「『人はパンだけで生きるものではなく、神の口から出る一つ一つの言で生きるものである』と書いてある」。
5 Then the devil takes Him into the holy city and sets Him upon the pinnacle of the temple,
それから悪魔は、イエスを聖なる都に連れて行き、宮の頂上に立たせて
6 and says to Him, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written: ‘He will give orders to His angels about you, and they will lift you up on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”
言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、下へ飛びおりてごらんなさい。『神はあなたのために御使たちにお命じになると、あなたの足が石に打ちつけられないように、彼らはあなたを手でささえるであろう』と書いてありますから」。
7 Jesus said to him, “It is also written: ‘You shall not test the Lord your God!’”
イエスは彼に言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を試みてはならない』とまた書いてある」。
8 Again the devil takes Him to a very high mountain and shows Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
次に悪魔は、イエスを非常に高い山に連れて行き、この世のすべての国々とその栄華とを見せて
9 And he says to Him, “All these things I will give to you, if You will fall down and worship me.”
言った、「もしあなたが、ひれ伏してわたしを拝むなら、これらのものを皆あなたにあげましょう」。
10 Then Jesus says to him: “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.’”
するとイエスは彼に言われた、「サタンよ、退け。『主なるあなたの神を拝し、ただ神にのみ仕えよ』と書いてある」。
11 Then the devil leaves Him, and then, angels came and began ministering to Him.
そこで、悪魔はイエスを離れ去り、そして、御使たちがみもとにきて仕えた。
12 Now hearing that John had been put in prison, Jesus departed into Galilee.
さて、イエスはヨハネが捕えられたと聞いて、ガリラヤへ退かれた。
13 And leaving Natsareth behind, He went and took up residence in Capernaum by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali;
そしてナザレを去り、ゼブルンとナフタリとの地方にある海べの町カペナウムに行って住まわれた。
14 so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet should be fulfilled, namely:
これは預言者イザヤによって言われた言が、成就するためである。
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations!
「ゼブルンの地、ナフタリの地、海に沿う地方、ヨルダンの向こうの地、異邦人のガリラヤ、
16 The people sitting in darkness saw a great light, and upon those sitting in the place and shadow of death light has dawned.”
暗黒の中に住んでいる民は大いなる光を見、死の地、死の陰に住んでいる人々に、光がのぼった」。
17 From then on Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has come near.”
この時からイエスは教を宣べはじめて言われた、「悔い改めよ、天国は近づいた」。
18 And walking by the Sea of Galilee He saw two brothers, Simon (the one called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a circular net into the sea (for they were fishermen).
さて、イエスがガリラヤの海べを歩いておられると、ふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ペテロと呼ばれたシモンとその兄弟アンデレとが、海に網を打っているのをごらんになった。彼らは漁師であった。
19 And He says to them, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”
イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしについてきなさい。あなたがたを、人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう」。
20 So leaving the nets immediately they followed Him.
すると、彼らはすぐに網を捨てて、イエスに従った。
21 And going on from there He saw two other brothers, James (the one of Zebedee) and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And He called them.
そこから進んで行かれると、ほかのふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネとが、父ゼベダイと一緒に、舟の中で網を繕っているのをごらんになった。そこで彼らをお招きになると、
22 So leaving the boat and their father immediately they followed Him.
すぐ舟と父とをおいて、イエスに従って行った。
23 Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness among the people.
イエスはガリラヤの全地を巡り歩いて、諸会堂で教え、御国の福音を宣べ伝え、民の中のあらゆる病気、あらゆるわずらいをおいやしになった。
24 So His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were sick—suffering with various diseases and torments, and being demonized and being moonstruck, and paralytics—and He healed them.
そこで、その評判はシリヤ全地にひろまり、人々があらゆる病にかかっている者、すなわち、いろいろの病気と苦しみとに悩んでいる者、悪霊につかれている者、てんかん、中風の者などをイエスのところに連れてきたので、これらの人々をおいやしになった。
25 So large crowds followed Him—from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond the Jordan.
こうして、ガリラヤ、デカポリス、エルサレム、ユダヤ及びヨルダンの向こうから、おびただしい群衆がきてイエスに従った。
