< Psalms 124 >
1 A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:
Canticum graduum. Nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, dicat nunc Israel:
2 if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,
nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, Cum exurgerent homines in nos,
3 perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,
forte vivos deglutissent nos: Cum irasceretur furor eorum in nos,
4 perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.
forsitan aqua absorbuisset nos.
5 Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
Torrentem pertransivit anima nostra: forsitan pertransisset anima nostra aquam intolerabilem.
6 Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
Benedictus Dominus qui non dedit nos, in captionem dentibus eorum.
7 Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
Anima nostra sicut passer erepta est de laqueo venantium: Laqueus contritus est, et nos liberati sumus.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Adiutorium nostrum in nomine Domini, qui fecit caelum et terram.
