1 Lawkkanem ni lungkhueknae a roum sak, hatei lawkkahram ni lungkhueknae a pâhlaw.
A soft answer turneth away fury; but a mortifying word stirreth up anger.
2 Tamilungkaang e lai ni teh, panuenae hah kalan lah ouk a hno, hatei tamipathu ni teh pathunae hah a pahni dawk hoi ouk a tâco sak.
The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge acceptable; but the mouth of fools sputtereth out folly.
3 BAWIPA e mit teh hmuen tangkuem a kâhlai teh hnokahawi hoi hnokathout hah ouk a khet.
In every place are the eyes of the Lord, looking on the bad and the good.
4 A tak ka dam e lai teh hringnae thingkung doeh, hatei lawkkahram ni teh lung a mathoe sak.
A healing [word] of the tongue is a tree of life; but perverseness therein is a breach to the spirit.
5 Tamipathu ni a na pa e cangkhainae hah banglah ngâi hoeh, hatei yuenae ka tarawi e tami teh kho ka pouk thai e doeh.
A fool contemneth the correction of his father; but he that observeth admonition will become prudent.
6 Tamikalan im vah hnopai moikapap ao teh, tamikathout ni a hmu e teh rucatnae hah doeh.
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure; but in the income of the wicked is trouble.
7 Tamilungkaang e pahni ni teh panuenae a pung sak, hatei tamipathu e lungthin ni teh hottelah sak boihoeh.
The lips of the wise scatter knowledge; but the heart of fools is not reliable.
8 Tamikathout ni thueng e teh BAWIPA hanelah panuet a tho, hatei tamikalan ni ratoum e teh a lunghawinae doeh.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of the Lord: but, the prayer of the upright [obtaineth] his favor.
9 Tamikathout hringnuen teh BAWIPA hanelah panuet a tho, hatei lannae katarawinaw hah teh a lung a pataw.
An abomination of the Lord is the way of the wicked; but him that pursueth righteousness will he love.
10 Lam kalan kaphennaw teh puenghoi yue lah ao teh, yuenae kahmuhmanaw teh a due han.
An evil correction is [destined] for him that forsaketh the [right] path; he that hateth admonition will die.
11 Sheol hoi rawkphainae teh BAWIPA hmalah a kamnue, tami canaw e lungthin teh hoe a kamnue han. (Sheol )
The nether world and corruption are open before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men! (Sheol )
12 Ka dudam e tami teh yuenae ngai hoeh, tamilungkaang koehai cet ngai hoeh.
A scorner loveth not that one should admonish him: unto the wise doth he not go.
13 Lungthin nawmnae ni minhmai a pan sak teh, lungreithainae teh lungreknae doeh.
A merry heart cheereth up the countenance; but when the heart feeleth pain the spirit is depressed.
14 Thaipanueknae lungthin ka tawn e ni panuenae ouk a tawng, hatei tamipathu ni teh pathunae lawk hoi ouk a kâkawk.
The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; but the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
15 Runae kâhmo e tami hanelah teh hnin pueng kathout seng doeh, hatei lungthin kanawm e ni teh pawi pou tonae lah ao.
All the days of the afflicted are evil; but he that is of a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
16 BAWIPA taki laihoi younca tawn e teh baruengbaraw o laihoi moikapap tawn e hlak a hawihnawn.
Better is little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure and confusion therewith.
17 Lungpatawnae lahoi ankahring hoi vai touh ca e teh, kâhmuhmanae koe maito buem pui ca e hlak ahawihnawn.
Better is an allowance of herbs when love is there, than a stall-fed ox and hatred therewith.
18 Tami lungkathout ni kâyuenae a tâcokhai, hatei ka panguep thai e ni teh a roum sak.
A man of fury stirreth up strife; but he that is slow to anger assuageth contention.
19 Kapangaknaw e lamthung teh pâkhing hoi khak a cak, hatei tamikalannaw e lamthung teh a ngaca.
The way of the slothful man is like a hedge of thorns; but the path of the upright is a levelled [road].
20 Capa a lungkaang ni teh a na pa a konawm sak, ka pathu e ni teh a manu a dumdam.
A wise son causeth his father to rejoice; but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Lungangnae ka tawn hoeh e naw niteh pathunae heh a lunghawinae lah a o, hatei thaipanueknae katawnnaw teh kalancalah ouk a cei awh.
Folly is joy to him that is void of sense; but a man of understanding walketh straight forward.
22 Kâpankhainae awm hoeh pawiteh noenae hai kangcoung thai hoeh, hatei kâpankhaikung pap pawiteh noenae a kangcoung.
Plans are frustrated without consultation; but through a multitude of counsellors canst thou maintain thyself.
23 Pahni hoi dei e lawk ni lunghawinae a tâco sak, a tue a pha torei dei e lawk teh ahawi poung.
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word [spoken] at the proper time, how good is it!
24 Tamilungkaangnaw e hringnae lamthung teh kahlun lah a luen, hothateh rahim lae sheol lam dawk hoi a kamlang thainae doeh. (Sheol )
The path of life [leadeth] upward for the intelligent, in order that he may avoid the nether world beneath. (Sheol )
25 BAWIPA ni tami kâoupnaw e im hah a raphoe pouh han, hatei lahmainu imhmuen teh a caksak han.
The Lord, will tear down the house of the proud; but he will set up firmly the boundary [-stone] of the widow.
26 Tamikathoutnaw e pouknae teh BAWIPA hanelah panuet a tho, hatei a lung kathoungnaw lawk teh thai a nawm.
An abomination of the Lord are the thoughts of the bad man; but pleasant speeches are pure [before him].
27 Ka hounloun e ni ama imthung totouh runae a poe, hatei tadawnghno ka hmuhma e teh a hring han.
He that is greedy after gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts will live.
28 Tamikalan lungthin ni teh pato nahane hmaloe a kamtu, hatei tamikathout e pahni ni teh hnokathout ouk a tâco sak.
The heart of the righteous reflecteth to answer; but the mouth of the wicked sputtereth out evil things.
29 BAWIPA teh tamikathout koehoi ahla, hatei tamikalan e ratoumnae teh ouk a thai.
The Lord is far from the wicked; but the prayer of the righteous doth he hear.
30 Lunghawinae minhmai ni lungthin a nawm sak teh, kamthang kahawi teh hru hanelah hawinae lah ao.
[What is pleasant to] the light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: a good report giveth marrow to the bones.
31 Hring tounnae ka tarawi e tami teh tamilungkaangnaw koe pouh ao han.
The ear that heareth the admonition of life will ever abide in the midst of the wise.
32 Cangkhainae banglah ka pouk hoeh e tami teh amae hringnae banglah ka pouk hoeh e tami doeh, hatei yuenae alawkpui lah ka pouk e ni thaipanueknae a hmu.
He that rejecteth correction despiseth his own soul; but he that heareth admonition acquireth intelligence.
33 BAWIPA takinae teh lungangnae cangkhainae lah o teh, barinae ao hoehnahlan kârahnoumnae hmaloe ao.
The fear of the Lord is the correction for wisdom; and before honor there must come humility.
