1 Solomon e cingthuilawk: Capa a lungkaang e ni teh, a na pa a lunghawi sak. Hatei, capa ka pathu e teh, a manu lung ka mathout sakkung doeh.
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth [his] father to rejoice; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
2 Thoenae lahoi pâkhueng e hnopai teh, hawinae awmhoeh. Hatei, lannae ni teh duenae koehoi a rungngang.
Treasures of wickedness will not profit aught; but righteousness will deliver from death.
3 BAWIPA ni tamikalannaw a pasai teh, tamikathoutnaw ngainae hah a tâkhawng pouh.
The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; but the sinful desires of the wicked will he cast away.
4 Pangaknae ni mathoenae a tâco sak teh, hratbatnae ni tawntanae a tâcokhai.
He becometh poor that laboreth with an indolent hand, but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 Kawmpoi tueng navah rawca ka pâkhueng e teh, a lungkaang e capa doeh. Canga lahun nah ka ip e capa teh yeirai ka po sakkung doeh.
He that gathereth in summer is an intelligent son; [but] he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 Tamikalan lû dawk yawhawinae ao teh, tamikathoutnaw e pahni teh rektapnae hoi akawi.
Blessings come upon the head of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
7 Tamikalannaw pahnimhoehnae heh yawhawinae lah ao han. Hatei, tamikathoutnaw e min teh a pawk han.
The memory of the just is [destined] to be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 Tami lungkaang ni teh kâpoelawknaw a lungthin hoi a dâw, hatei, a lawk kapap e tamipathu teh a rawp han.
The wise in heart will accept commandments; but he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
9 Lannae lahoi ka cet e tami teh karoumcalah a cei, hatei lam longkawi ka dawn e teh panue lah ao han.
He that walketh uprightly ever walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways will be punished.
10 Mit cumasipnae ni lungmathoenae a tâco sak, lawk kapap e tamipathu teh a rawk han.
He that winketh with the eye causeth vexation; and he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
11 Tamikalan e pahni teh hringnae tuiphuek doeh. Hatei, tami kahawihoehnaw e pahni teh moikainae ni a ramuk.
A source of life is the mouth of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
12 Hmuhmanae ni kâpohoehnae a tâco sak. Hatei, lungpatawnae niteh, yonnae pueng a ramuk pouh.
Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love throweth a cover over all transgressions.
13 Thaipanueknae ka tawn e pahni dawk lungangnae hah hmu e lah a o, hatei, hemnae bongpai teh thaipanueknae ka tawn hoeh e a hnukthun vah a bo.
On the lips of the man of understanding there is found wisdom: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of sense.
14 Tami a lungkaangnaw niteh, thoumthainae heh a pâkhueng awh, hatei, tamipathu e pahni niteh, rawknae hah a hnai.
Wise men treasure up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is an approaching terror.
15 Tami katawntanaw hanelah teh, a tawntanae hah ka cak e khopui lah ao teh, tamimathoenaw rawknae teh, a mathoenae doeh.
The wealth of the rich man is his strong town: the terror of the poor is their poverty.
16 Tamikalan thaw tawknae ni hringnae a tâcokhai teh, tamikathoutnaw e tawkphu teh, thoe khangnae hah doeh.
The labor of the righteous [tendeth] to life: the product of the wicked is for sin.
17 Cangkhainae ka tarawi e teh, hringnae lamthung dawk ao. Hatei, yuenae ka ek e teh, lamthung ka phen e doeh.
On the way unto life is he that observeth correction; but he that forsaketh reproof is in error.
18 Hmuhmanae hah laithoe deinae pahni hoi ka ramuk e tami, ayâ min mathoe nahanelah ka dei e tami teh tamipathu doeh.
He that hideth hatred hath lips of falsehood; and he that spreadeth abroad an evil report, is a fool.
19 Lawk pap pawiteh, payon e hai a pap. Hatei, a pahni ka cakuep e tami teh tami a lungkaang e doeh.
In a multitude of words transgression cannot be avoided; but he that refraineth his lips is intelligent.
20 Tamikalan e lai teh, kahawi e ngun patetlah ao teh, tamikathout e lungthin teh aphu awm hoeh.
[Like] choice silver is the tongue of the righteous: the heart of the wicked is worth but very little.
21 Tamikalan e pahni ni tami moikapap a kawk. Hatei, tamipathu teh lungangnae a vout dawkvah a due.
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die through lack of sense.
22 BAWIPA yawhawinae ni tami a tawnta sak teh, lungmathoenae thokhai boihoeh.
The blessing of the Lord it is which maketh rich, and painful labor addeth nothing thereto.
23 Tamipathu hanelah teh, yonnae sak e heh a nawmnae lah a coung. Hatei, thaipanueknae ka tawn e niteh, lungangnae a tawn.
It is as sport to a fool to do wicked deeds; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 Tamikathout teh a taki e patetlah a lathueng a pha vaiteh, tamikalan teh a ngai e hah poe lah ao han.
What the wicked dreadeth, that will come upon him: but the longing of the righteous will God grant.
25 Bongparui a kâkaven toteh, tamikathoutnaw teh a kahma han. Hatei, tamikalan ni teh a yungyoe adu hungnae a tawn.
As the whirlwind passeth by, the wicked is no more; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 Tami pangak patoun e teh, misurtui kathut e ni hah a kip sak e hoi, hmaikhu ni mit a ut e patetlah doeh ao.
As vinegar is to the teeth, and as smoke is to the eyes: so is the sluggard to those that send him.
27 BAWIPA takinae ni hringyung a saw sak, hatei, tamikathout e hringyung teh duem sak lah ao han.
The fear of the Lord increaseth [man's] days; but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
28 Tamikalan ni ngaihawi e teh lunghawinae lah ao, hatei, tamikathout e ngaihawinae teh a kahma han.
The expectation of the righteous is joy; but the hope of the wicked shall perish.
29 Tamikalan hanelah BAWIPA e lamthung teh thaonae doeh. Hatei, thoenae ka sak e teh, rawkkahmanae koe a pha han.
The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright; but terror is destined to the workers of injustice.
30 Tamikalan teh hmuen dawk hoi nâtuek hai puen lah awm mahoeh. Hatei, tamikathoutnaw ni talai heh onae lah hno awh mahoeh
The righteous shall never be removed; but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 Tamikalan e pahni ni lungangnae a tâcokhai, hatei ka longkawi e lai teh, tâtueng pouh lah ao han.
The mouth of the just uttereth wisdom; but the tongue of perverseness shall be cut out.
32 Tamikalan e pahni ni ngai kawi e hno hah a panue, hatei tamikathout e pahni niteh, kâtarannae lawk doeh ouk a dei.
The lips of the righteous know [how to obtain] favor; but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] perverseness.
