< Joel 1 >
1 Pethuel capa Joel khaeah, Angraeng ih lok to angzoh.
The word of the Lord that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.
2 Nangcae mitongnawk hae hae thaih oh, prae thung kaom kaminawk boih, tahngai oh. Nangmacae dung ah maw, to tih ai boeh loe nam panawk dung ah hae baktih hmuen hae oh vaih boeh maw?
Listen to this, elders, and pay close attention, all inhabitants of the land. Did this ever happen in your days or in the days of your fathers?
3 Hae hmuen hae na caanawk khaeah thui pae oh, na caanawk mah angmacae ih caanawk khaeah thui pae o patoeng nasoe loe, nihcae ih caanawk mah doeh angmacae ih caanawk khaeah thui pae o patoeng nasoe.
Talk this over with your sons, and your sons with their sons, and their sons with another generation.
4 Pakhuh mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to pakhuh kalen mah caak; pakhuh kalen mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to, langkawk mah caak; langkawk mah caak ih kanghmat hmuen to kalah langkawk mah caak o.
The locust has eaten what the caterpillar has left, and the beetle has eaten what the locust has left, and the mildew has eaten what the beetle has left.
5 Nang, mu paquih kami, angthawk ah loe qah ah; nangcae misurtui nae kaminawk boih, misurtui kangtha na pakha thung hoiah lak ving boeh pongah, tha hoi qah oh.
Rouse yourselves, you drunkards, and weep and wail, all you who delight in drinking wine; for it has been cut off from your mouth.
6 Thacak, kroek laek ai ah kaom acaeng maeto mah, ka prae to lak hanah angzoh boeh; anih ih haa loe kaipui haa baktiah oh moe, hmawsaeng kaipui baktiah ano tawnh.
For a nation has ascended over my land: strong and without number. His teeth are like the teeth of a lion, and his molars are like that of a lion’s young.
7 Anih mah kai ih misur takha to phraek moe, kai ih thaiduetkung to pahum boih boeh; ahin to khok moe, a vah boih; tanghangnawk doeh anglung rawk ah a suek boih.
He has put my vineyard into desolation, and he has pulled off the bark of my fig tree. He has stripped it bare and cast it away; its branches have become white.
8 Tangla cuem mah tangla naah angmah ih sava ah hamh ih kami mah anih to duek taak ving naah, buri kahni to angzaeng moe, qah baktih toengah qah oh.
Lament like a betrothed virgin, wrapped in sackcloth at the loss of the husband of her youth.
9 Cang hoi nawnto paek ih naek koi tui to Angraeng im hoiah pakha pae ving boeh; to pongah qaimanawk hoi Angraeng toksah kaminawk loe palungset o.
Sacrifice and libation have perished from the house of the Lord; the priests who are ministers of the Lord have mourned.
10 Lawk loe pongsut boeh moe, long doeh roem boih boeh; cangnawk loe amro boeh moe, misurtui kangtha doeh atui kang ving boeh, situi doeh om ai boeh.
The region has been depopulated, the soil has mourned. For the wheat has been devastated, the wine has been disfigured, the oil has languished.
11 Nangcae lawksah kaminawk, azathaih hoiah om oh, nangcae misurkung thling kaminawk, cang hoi barli cang aahhaih ahmuen to anghmat ving boeh pongah, qah oh.
The farmers have been confounded, the vineyard workers have wailed over the crop and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.
12 Misurtui kang boih boeh moe, thaiduetkung doeh azaem boih boeh; pomegranat thing, ungsikung baktih kaom thing, appal thing hoi lawk ih thingnawk doeh azaem boih boeh: kami capanawk khae hoi anghoehaih doeh azaem boih boeh.
The vineyard is in ruin, and the fig tree has languished. The pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the fruit tree, and all the trees of the field have withered. For joy has been thrown into disorder before the sons of men.
13 Qaimanawk, buri kahni angzaeng oh loe, qah oh; hmaicam hmaa ah toksah nangcae doeh, qah oh; kai ih Sithaw khaeah toksah nangcae, angzo oh loe aqum puek buri kahni angkhuk hoiah om oh; cang hoi naek koi paek ih hmuennawk to na Sithaw im ah paek o ai boeh.
Priests, gird yourselves and lament. Ministers of the altars, wail. Enter, ministers of my God, lie in sackcloth. For sacrifice and libation have passed away from the house of your God.
14 Kaciim buhzahhaih to sah oh loe, kaciim amkhuenghaih to sah oh; mitongnawk hoi prae thung kaom kaminawk Angraeng na Sithaw ih imthung ah pakhuengh boih ah loe, Angraeng khaeah qah oh.
Sanctify a fast, call an assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God. And cry out to the Lord:
15 Ala Angraeng ih ni, to ani loe anghnai boeh; to ni loe Thacak Sithaw khae hoi angzo amrohaih baktiah angzo tih.
“Ah, ah, ah, the day!” For the day of the Lord is near, and it will arrive, like a devastation, before the powerful.
16 Aicae hma roe ah caaknaek to kha boeh moe, Sithaw im ah anghoehaih hoi oephaih to om ai boeh na ai maw?
Has not your nourishment perished from before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 Cangtii doeh long thungah aap sut boeh, hmuenmae suekhaih ahmuen loe angqai krang boeh, tapupnawk doeh hmawn boih boeh; cang doeh azaem boih boeh.
The mules have rotted in their own manure, the barns have been demolished, the wine cellars have been destroyed, because the grain has been ruined.
18 Moinawk loe kawkruk maw patangkhang o! Caak han phroh kahoih om ai boeh pongah, maitawnawk doeh thazok o sut moe, tuunawk doeh patangkhang o boeh.
Why have the animals groaned, the herds of cattle bellowed? because there is no pasture for them. Yes, and even the flocks of sheep have been lost.
19 Aw Angraeng, taw ih saphoinawk loe hmai mah kangh boih boeh, taw ih thingnawk doeh hmaipalai mah kang boih boeh pongah, nang ni kang palawk boeh.
To you, O Lord, I will cry out, because fire has devoured the beauty of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the countryside.
20 Vapui tuinawk loe kang ving boeh moe, hmai mah taw ih saphoinawk to kang boih boeh pongah, taw ih moinawk mah doeh nang ni ang palawk o boeh.
Yes, and even the beasts of the field have gazed up at you, like the dry ground thirsting for rain, because the fountains of waters have dried up, and fire has devoured the beauty of the wilderness.
