< Job 5 >
1 Vaihi kawk noek ah, na kawkhaih lok pathim han kami om tih maw? Naa bang ih kaciim kaminawk khaeah maw nang qoi han?
Pray, call, is there any to answer thee? And unto which of the holy ones dost thou turn?
2 Palungphui hmai baktih amngaehhaih mah kamthu to hum moe, uthaih mah kamthu to misong ah ohsak.
For provocation slayeth the perverse, And envy putteth to death the simple,
3 Kamthu ih tangzun loe cak, tiah ka hnuk pongah, a ohhaih ahmuen to ka tangoeng pae roep.
I — I have seen the perverse taking root, And I mark his habitation straightway,
4 Anih ih caanawk loe misa monghaih tawn o ai, khongkha ah ah atit o naah, bomkung tawn o ai.
Far are his sons from safety, And they are bruised in the gate, And there is no deliverer.
5 A aah ih cang loe zok amthlam kaminawk mah caak pae o ving; anih ih hmuenmaenawk loe mingcahnawk mah lomh pae o king.
Whose harvest the hungry doth eat, And even from the thorns taketh it, And the designing swallowed their wealth.
6 Patangkhanghaih loe maiphu thung hoiah angzo ai, raihaih doeh long thung hoiah tacawt ai.
For sorrow cometh not forth from the dust, Nor from the ground springeth up misery.
7 Toe van bangah tapraek tahang hmai baktih toengah, kami loe raihaih tongh han ih ni tapen roe.
For man to misery is born, And the sparks go high to fly.
8 Toe kai loe Sithaw khaeah tahmenhaih ka hnik moe, ka raihaih to Sithaw khaeah ka tathlang han:
Yet I — I inquire for God, And for God I give my word,
9 anih loe paroeai kalen hmuen, kroek laek ai hmuen, dawnrai koi hmuennawk to sak;
Doing great things, and there is no searching. Wonderful, till there is no numbering.
10 Anih mah ni long ah kho angzohsak moe, lawk ah tui to longsak.
Who is giving rain on the face of the land, And is sending waters on the out-places.
11 Poek pahnaem kami to anih mah atoengh tahang moe, palungsae kami to monghaih ahmuen ah atoengh tahang.
To set the low on a high place, And the mourners have been high [in] safety.
12 Minawk aling thaih kami mah kasae pacaeng ih hmuen akoep han ai ah, anih mah pakaa pae.
Making void thoughts of the subtile, And their hands do not execute wisdom.
13 Palungha kaminawk loe angmacae palunghahaih hoiah sak pacaeng ih hmuen pongah amansak moe, poek kangkawn kami amsakhaih to a phraek pae.
Capturing the wise in their subtilty, And the counsel of wrestling ones was hastened,
14 Nihcae loe khodai ah vinghaih tongh o moe, athun ah khoving baktiah loklam pathoep hoiah a caeh o.
By day they meet darkness, And as night — they grope at noon.
15 Sithaw mah amtang kaminawk to thacak kami ih pakha hoi anih ih ban thung hoiah pahlong.
And He saveth the wasted from their mouth, And from a strong hand the needy,
16 To pongah amtang kaminawk loe oephaih tawnh o moe, katoeng ai hmuen mah anih ih pakha to tamuep pae.
And there is hope to the poor, And perverseness hath shut her mouth.
17 Khenah, Sithaw mah patoengh ih kami loe tahamhoih; to pongah Thacak koek Sithaw mah thuitaekhaih to patoek hmah.
Lo, the happiness of mortal man, God doth reprove him: And the chastisement of the Mighty despise not,
18 Anih mah ahmaa caksak, toe ahmaa to komh pae let; nganbawh kana a paek, toe ngantuisak let.
For He doth pain, and He bindeth up, He smiteth, and His hands heal.
19 Anih mah vai tarukto raihaih thung hoiah na loisak tih; ue, vai sarihto naah doeh kasae na tongh mak ai.
In six distresses He delivereth thee, And in seven evil striketh not on thee.
20 Anih mah khokhaa naah duekhaih thung hoiah na pahlong tih; misatuk naah doeh sumsen thacakhaih thung hoiah pahlong tih.
In famine He hath redeemed thee from death, And in battle from the hands of the sword.
21 Lok amlai palai thung hoiah na pakaa ueloe, amrohaih phak naah, na zii mak ai.
When the tongue scourgeth thou art hid, And thou art not afraid of destruction, When it cometh.
22 Amrohaih hoi khokhaahaih to na pahnui thuih ueloe, long nui ih hmawsaeng moinawk doeh na zii mak ai.
At destruction and at hunger thou mockest, And of the beast of the earth, Thou art not afraid.
23 Azawn ih thlungnawk loe lokmaihaih ampui baktiah om ueloe, taw ih moisannawk loe kamongah nang hoi nawnto om o tih.
(For with sons of the field [is] thy covenant, And the beast of the field Hath been at peace with thee.)
24 Na ohhaih kahni im loe misa monghaih hoiah oh, tiah na panoek ueloe, na ohhaih ahmuen na phak naah, palungboenghaih om mak ai.
And thou hast known that thy tent [is] peace, And inspected thy habitation, and errest not,
25 Nang ih atiinawk loe paroeai pop o tih, na caanawk loe long ih phroh baktiah om o tih, tiah na panoek tih.
And hast known that numerous [is] Thy seed, And thine offspring as the herb of the earth;
26 Atue phak naah aah ih cang baktiah, na mitong naah loe taprong ah na caeh tih.
Thou comest in full age unto the grave, As the going up of a stalk in its season.
27 Khenah, hae hmuen hae ka pakrong o, to hmuen loe oh tangtang; to pongah tahngai ah loe, na hoih haih hanah pakuem ah, tiah a naa.
Lo, this — we searched it out — it [is] right, hearken; And thou, know for thyself!
