For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not charged when there is no law.

فَإِنَّ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَانَتْ مُنْتَشِرَةً فِي الْعَالَمِ قَبْلَ مَجِيءِ الشَّرِيعَةِ. إِلّا أَنَّ الْخَطِيئَةَ لَمْ تَكُنْ تُسَجَّلُ، لأَنَّ الشَّرِيعَةَ لَمْ تَكُنْ مَوْجُودَةً.
ܥܕܡܐ ܓܝܪ ܠܢܡܘܤܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܟܕ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܘܬ ܒܥܠܡܐ ܠܐ ܚܫܝܒܐ ܗܘܬ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܢܡܘܤܐ

કેમ કે નિયમશાસ્ત્ર પ્રગટ થયા અગાઉ પાપ દુનિયામાં હતું ખરું, તોપણ જ્યાં નિયમ ન હોય ત્યાં પાપ ગણાય નહિ.

אמנם החטא כבר היה בעולם זמן רב לפני מתן־התורה, אך איש לא יכול להיחשב חוטא לתורה אם טרם ניתנה התורה.
כי עד זמן התורה היה החטא בעולם אך לא יחשב חטא באין תורה׃
क्योंकि व्यवस्था के दिए जाने तक पाप जगत में तो था, परन्तु जहाँ व्यवस्था नहीं, वहाँ पाप गिना नहीं जाता।
पाप व्यवस्था के प्रभावी होने से पहले ही संसार में मौजूद था लेकिन जहां व्यवस्था ही नहीं, वहां पाप गिना नहीं जाता!
