يَقُولُونَ لِأُمَّهَاتِهِمْ: «أَيْنَ ٱلْحِنْطَةُ وَٱلْخَمْرُ؟» إِذْ يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِمْ كَجَرِيحٍ فِي سَاحَاتِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ، إِذْ تُسْكَبُ نَفْسُهُمْ فِي أَحْضَانِ أُمَّهَاتِهِمْ.
يَقُولُونَ لأُمَّهَاتِهِمْ بَاكِينَ: «أَيْنَ الْخُبْزُ وَالْخَمْرُ؟» ثُمَّ يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِمْ كَالْجَرْحَى فِي شَوَارِعِ الْمَدِينَةِ، حِينَ تُهْرَقُ حَيَاتُهُمْ فِي أَحْضَانِ أُمَّهَاتِهِمْ.

לְאִמֹּתָם֙ יֹֽאמְר֔וּ אַיֵּ֖ה דָּגָ֣ן וָיָ֑יִן בְּהִֽתְעַטְּפָ֤ם כֶּֽחָלָל֙ בִּרְחֹב֣וֹת עִ֔יר בְּהִשְׁתַּפֵּ֣ךְ נַפְשָׁ֔ם אֶל־חֵ֖יק אִמֹּתָֽם׃ ס
वे अपनी-अपनी माता से रोकर कहते हैं, अन्न और दाखमधु कहाँ हैं? वे नगर के चौकों में घायल किए हुए मनुष्य के समान मूर्छित होकर अपने प्राण अपनी-अपनी माता की गोद में छोड़ते हैं।
वे अपनी-अपनी माताओं के समक्ष रोकर कह रहे हैं, “कहां है हमारा भोजन, कहां है हमारा द्राक्षारस?” वे नगर की गली में घायल योद्धा के समान पड़े हैं, अपनी-अपनी माताओं की गोद में पड़े हुए उनका जीवन प्राण छोड़ रहे है.
