وَعلَى الرَّغْمِ مِنْ تَحْذِيرِ النَّبِيِّ فَإِنَّ يَرُبْعَامَ لَمْ يَحِدْ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ الأَثِيمَةِ، بَلْ عَادَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَكَرَّسَ كَهَنَةً لِمَعَابِدِ الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ، اخْتَارَهُمْ مِنْ عَامَّةِ الشَّعْبِ، فَكَانَ يُكَرِّسُ كُلَّ مَنْ يَرْغَبُ أَنْ يَكُونَ كَاهِناً لِهَذِهِ الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ.

यह सब होने पर भी यरोबोअम अपने गलत कामों से न फिरा. उसने पूजा की जगहों के लिए अपनी सारी प्रजा में से पुरोहित चुने. जो कोई भी पुरोहित का पद चाहता था, वह उसे पूजा की जगहों के पुरोहित होने के लिए अभिषिक्त कर देता था.
