< Romans 7 >

1 Ẹ̀yin kò ha mọ̀, ara: nítorí èmí bá àwọn tí ó mọ òfin sọ̀rọ̀ pé, òfin ní ipá lórí ènìyàn níwọ̀n ìgbà tí ó bá wà láààyè nìkan?
Or do you not know, brothers (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has authority over a person for as long as he lives?
2 Fún àpẹẹrẹ, nípa òfin ní a de obìnrin mọ́ ọkọ rẹ̀ níwọ̀n ìgbà tí ọkọ náà wà láààyè, ṣùgbọ́n bí ọkọ rẹ̀ bá kú, a tú u sílẹ̀ kúrò nínú òfin ìgbéyàwó náà.
For the married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.
3 Nígbà náà, bí ó bá fẹ́ ọkùnrin mìíràn nígbà tí ọkọ rẹ̀ wà láààyè, panṣágà ní a ó pè é. Ṣùgbọ́n bí ọkọ rẹ̀ bá kú, ó bọ́ lọ́wọ́ òfin náà, kí yóò sì jẹ́ panṣágà bí ó bá ní ọkọ mìíràn.
So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she is called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress, though she is joined to another man.
4 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ẹ̀yin ará mi, ẹ̀yin pẹ̀lú ti di òkú sí òfin nípa ara Kristi, kí ẹ̀yin kí ó lè ní ẹlòmíràn, àní ẹni náà tí a jí dìde kúrò nínú òkú, kí àwa kí ó lè so èso fún Ọlọ́run.
Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we may bear fruit to God.
5 Nítorí ìgbà tí a wa nípa ti ara, ìfẹ́kúfẹ̀ẹ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ nípa ti òfin, ma ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú wa, tí a sì ń so èso tí ó yẹ fún ikú.
For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit for death.
6 Ṣùgbọ́n nísinsin yìí, nípa kíkú ohun tó so wá pọ̀ tẹ́lẹ̀ rí, a ti tú wa sílẹ̀ kúrò nínú òfin, kí a lè sin ín ní ìlànà tuntun ti Ẹ̀mí, kì í ṣe ní ìlànà àtijọ́ tí ìwé òfin gùnlé.
But now we have been released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
7 Ǹjẹ́ àwa o ha ti wí, nígbà náà? Òfin ha ń ṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ bí? Kí a má rí i! Ṣùgbọ́n èmi kì bá tí mọ ohun tí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ jẹ́, bí kò ṣe nípa òfin. Èmi kì bá tí mọ ojúkòkòrò, bí kò ṣe bí òfin ti wí pé, “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ ṣe ojúkòkòrò.”
What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not. However, I would not have known sin, except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness, unless the law had said, "Do not covet."
8 Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ sì ti ipa òfin rí ààyè ṣiṣẹ́ onírúurú ìfẹ́kúfẹ̀ẹ́ nínú mi. Nítorí láìsí òfin, ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ jẹ́ ikú.
But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
9 Èmi sì ti wà láààyè láìsí òfin nígbà kan rí; ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí òfin dé, ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ sọjí èmi sì kú.
I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin became alive, and I died.
10 Mo ṣàkíyèsí pé òfin tí ó yẹ kí ó mú ìyè wá ni ó padà mú ikú wá.
The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death;
11 Nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ti ipa òfin rí ààyè láti tàn mí jẹ, ó sì ti ipa òfin ṣe ikú pa mi.
for sin, taking the opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.
12 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mímọ́ ni òfin, mímọ́ sì ni àṣẹ, àti òdodo, àti dídára.
Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.
13 Ǹjẹ́ ohun tí ó dára ha di ikú fún mi bí? Kí a má rí i! Ṣùgbọ́n kí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, kí ó lè farahàn bí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, ó ń ti ipa ohun tí ó dára ṣiṣẹ́ ikú nínú mi, kí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ lè ti ipa òfin di búburú rékọjá.
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Absolutely not. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.
14 Nítorí àwa mọ̀ pé ohun ẹ̀mí ni òfin, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni ti ara ni èmi, tí a ti tà sábẹ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
15 Èmi pàápàá, kò mọ̀ ohun tí èmi ń ṣe. Nítorí pé, ohun tí mo fẹ́ ṣe gan an n kò ṣe é, ṣùgbọ́n ohun tí mo kórìíra ni mo ń ṣe.
For I do not know what I am doing. For I do not practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.
16 Ṣùgbọ́n bí mo bá ṣe ohun tí èmi kò fẹ́, mo gbà pé òfin dára.
But if I do what I do not want to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
17 Ṣùgbọ́n bí ọ̀rọ̀ ṣe rí yìí kì í ṣe èmi ni ó ṣe é bí kò ṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tí ń gbé inú mi.
So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
18 Èmi mọ̀ dájú pé kò sí ohun tí ó dára kan tí ń gbé inú mi, àní, nínú ara ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ mi. Èmi fẹ́ ṣe èyí tí ó dára, ṣùgbọ́n kò sé é ṣe.
For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For the desire is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.
19 Nítorí ohun tí èmi ṣe kì í ṣe ohun rere tí èmi fẹ́ láti ṣe; rárá, ṣùgbọ́n búburú tí èmi kò fẹ́, èyí nì ni èmi ń ṣe.
For the good which I desire, I do not do; but the evil which I do not desire, that I practice.
20 Nísinsin yìí, bí mo bá ń ṣe nǹkan tí n kò fẹ́ láti ṣe, kì í ṣe èmí fúnra mi ni ó ṣe é, bí kò ṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tí ń bẹ nínú ni ó ṣe é.
But if what I do not desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
21 Nítorí náà, èmi kíyèsi pé òfin ní ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú mi, nígbà tí èmi bá fẹ́ ṣe rere, búburú wà níbẹ̀ pẹ̀lú mi.
I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.
22 Nínú ìjìnlẹ̀ ọkàn mi mo ní inú dídùn sí òfin Ọlọ́run;
For I delight in God's law in my inner being,
23 mo rí òfin mìíràn tó ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú ẹ̀yà ara mi, èyí tí ń gbógun ti òfin tó tinú ọkàn mi wá, èyí tí ó sọ mi di ẹrú òfin ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tí ó ń ṣiṣẹ́ nínú ẹ̀yà ara mi.
but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
24 Èmi ẹni òsì! Ta ni yóò ha gbà mí sílẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ ara kíkú yìí?
What a wretched man I am. Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law.
