< Romans 13 >

1 Kí olúkúlùkù ọkàn kí ó foríbalẹ̀ fún àwọn aláṣẹ tí ó wà ní ipò gíga. Nítorí kò sí àṣẹ kan, bí kò ṣe láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run wá; àwọn aláṣẹ tí ó sì wà, láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run ni a ti lànà rẹ̀ wá.
Let every one obey the supreme Authorities. For no Authority exists except by the will of God, and the existing Authorities have been appointed by God.
2 Nítorí ẹni tí ó bá tàpá sí àṣẹ, ó tàpá sí ìlànà Ọlọ́run; àwọn ẹni tí ó ba sì ń tàpá, yóò gba ẹ̀bi fún ara wọn.
Therefore he who sets himself against the authorities is resisting God’s appointment, and those who resist will bring a judgment upon themselves.
3 Nítorí àwọn ìjòyè kò wá láti dẹ́rùbà àwọn tí ń ṣe rere, bí kò ṣe àwọn tó ń ṣe búburú. Ǹjẹ́ ìwọ ha fẹ́ di òmìnira kúrò nínú ẹ̀rù ẹni tó wà ní ipò àṣẹ. Nítorí náà ṣe èyí tó ó dára, ìwọ yóò sì gba ìyìn láti ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀.
A good action has nothing to fear from Rulers; a bad action has. Do you want to have no reason to fear the Authorities? Then do what is good, and you will win their praise.
4 Nítorí ìránṣẹ́ Ọlọ́run ni i ṣe fún ọ́ sí rere. Ṣùgbọ́n bí ìwọ bá ń ṣé búburú, máa bẹ̀rù, nítorí kò gbé idà náà lásán. Nítorí ìránṣẹ́ Ọlọ́run ní í ṣe, olùgbẹ̀san láti ṣiṣẹ́ ìbínú lára ẹni tí ń ṣe búburú.
For they are God’s servants appointed for your good. But, if you do what is wrong, you may well be afraid; for the sword they carry is not without meaning! They are God’s servants to inflict his punishments on those who do wrong.
5 Nítorí náà, ẹ̀yin kò gbọdọ̀ má tẹríba fún àwọn aláṣẹ, kì í ṣe nítorí ti ìbínú nìkan, ṣùgbọ́n nítorí ẹ̀rí ọkàn pẹ̀lú.
You are bound, therefore, to obey, not only through fear of God’s punishments, but also as a matter of conscience.
6 Nítorí ìdí èyí, ẹ san owó òde pẹ̀lú, nítorí ìránṣẹ́ Ọlọ́run ni wọ́n, èyí náà ni wọ́n ń bojútó nígbà gbogbo.
This, too, is the reason for your paying taxes; for the officials are God’s officers, devoting themselves to this special work.
7 Ẹ san ohun tí ó tọ́ fún ẹni gbogbo: owó òde fún ẹni tí owó òde í ṣe tirẹ̀: owó bodè fún ẹni tí owó bodè í ṣe tirẹ̀: ẹ̀rù fún ẹni tí ẹ̀rù í ṣe tirẹ̀; ọlá fún ẹni tí ọlá í ṣe tirẹ̀.
In all cases pay what is due from you — tribute where tribute is due, taxes where taxes are due, respect where respect is due, and honour where honour is due.
8 Ẹ má ṣe jẹ ẹnikẹ́ni ní gbèsè ohun kan, bí kò ṣe pé kí a fẹ́ ọmọ ẹnìkejì ẹni, nítorí ẹni tí ó bá fẹ́ ọmọnìkejì rẹ̀, ó kó òfin já.
Owe nothing to any one except brotherly love; for he who loves his fellow men has satisfied the Law.
9 Àwọn òfin, “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ ṣe panṣágà,” “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ pànìyàn,” “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ jalè,” “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ jẹ́rìí èké,” “Ìwọ kò gbọdọ̀ ṣe ojúkòkòrò,” bí òfin mìíràn bá sì wà, ni a papọ̀ ṣọ̀kan nínú òfin kan yìí: “Fẹ́ ẹnìkéjì rẹ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ara rẹ̀.”
The commandments, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet,’ and whatever other commandment there is, are all summed up in the words — ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thou dost thyself.’
10 Ìfẹ́ kì í ṣe ohun búburú sí ọmọnìkejì rẹ̀, nítorí náà ìfẹ́ ni àkójá òfin.
Love never wrongs a neighbour. Therefore Love fully satisfies the Law.
11 Àti èyí, bí ẹ̀yin ti mọ àkókò pé, ó ti tó wákàtí nísinsin yìí fún yín láti jí lójú orun, nítorí nísinsin yìí ni ìgbàlà wa súnmọ́ etílé ju ìgbà tí àwa ti gbàgbọ́ lọ.
This I say, because you know the crisis that we have reached, for the time has already come for you to rouse yourselves from sleep; our Salvation is nearer now than when we accepted the Faith.
12 Òru bù kọjá tan, ilẹ̀ sì fẹ́rẹ mọ́: nítorí náà ẹ jẹ́ kí a bọ́ ara iṣẹ́ òkùnkùn sílẹ̀, kí a sì gbé ìhámọ́ra ìmọ́lẹ̀ wọ̀.
The night is almost gone; the day is near. Therefore let us have done with the deeds of Darkness, and arm ourselves with the weapons of Light.
13 Jẹ́ kí a má rin ìrìn títọ́, bí ní ọ̀sán; kì í ṣe ní ìréde òru àti ní ìmutípara, kì í ṣe ni ìwà èérí àti wọ̀bìà, kì í ṣe ní ìjà àti ìlara.
Being in the light of Day, let us live becomingly, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lust and licentiousness, not in quarrelling and jealousy.
14 Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ gbé Jesu Kristi Olúwa wọ̀, kí ẹ má sì pèsè fún ara, láti máa mú ìfẹ́kúfẹ̀ẹ́ rẹ̀ ṣẹ.
No! Arm yourselves with the spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ, and spend no thought on your earthly nature, to satisfy its cravings.
