< Psalms 78 >
1 Maskili ti Asafu. Ẹ̀yin ènìyàn mi, ẹ gbọ́ ẹ̀kọ́ mi; tẹ́tí rẹ sí ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu mi.
A maschil of Asaph. Hear my teaching, my people, listen to the words of my mouth.
2 Èmi ó la ẹnu mi ní òwe, èmi o sọ ohun ìkọ̀kọ̀, ohun ti ọjọ́ pípẹ́;
I will open my mouth in parables; I will sing about hidden things about the past.
3 ohun tí a ti gbọ́ tí a sì ti mọ̀, ohun tí àwọn baba wa ti sọ fún wa.
These are things that we have heard and learned, things that our ancestors have told us.
4 Àwa kì yóò pa wọ́n mọ́ kúrò lọ́dọ̀ àwọn ọmọ, ní fífi ìyìn Olúwa, àti ipa rẹ̀ àti iṣẹ́ ìyanu tó ti ṣe hàn fún ìran tí ń bọ̀.
We will not keep them from their descendants. We will tell the next generation about the praiseworthy deeds of Yahweh, his strength, and the wonders that he has done.
5 Ó gbé ẹ̀rí kalẹ̀ ní Jakọbu o sì fìdí àṣẹ múlẹ̀ ní Israẹli, èyí tí ó pàṣẹ fún àwọn baba ńlá wa láti kọ́ àwọn ọmọ wọn,
For he established covenant decrees in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel. He commanded our ancestors that they were to teach them to their children.
6 nítorí náà, àwọn ìran tí ń bọ̀ yóò mọ̀ wọ́n bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn ọmọ tí a kò tí ì bí tí yóò dìde tí wọn yóò sọ fún àwọn ọmọ wọn.
He commanded this so that the generation to come might know his decrees, the children not yet born, who should tell them in turn to their own children.
7 Nígbà náà ni wọ́n ò fi ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé wọn sínú Ọlọ́run wọn kò sì ní gbàgbé iṣẹ́ Ọlọ́run ṣùgbọ́n wọn ó pa àṣẹ rẹ̀ mọ́.
Then they would place their hope in God and not forget his deeds but keep his commandments.
8 Kí wọn kí ó má ṣe dàbí àwọn baba ńlá wọn, ìran alágídí àti ọlọ́tẹ̀, ìran tí ọkàn wọn kò ṣọ òtítọ́ si olóore, àti ẹ̀mí ẹni tí kò bá Ọlọ́run dúró ṣinṣin.
Then they would not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose hearts were not right, and whose spirits were not committed and faithful to God.
9 Àwọn ọkùnrin Efraimu, tí ó há mọ́ ọ tí wọ́n mú ọrun, wọ́n yípadà ní ọjọ́ ogun
The Ephraimites were armed with bows, but they turned back on the day of battle.
10 Wọn kò pa májẹ̀mú Ọlọ́run mọ́ wọn sì kọ̀ láti máa gbé nínú òfin rẹ̀.
They did not keep the covenant with God, and they refused to obey his law.
11 Wọ́n gbàgbé ohun tí ó ti ṣe, àwọn ìyanu tí ó ti fihàn wọ́n.
They forgot his deeds, the wonderful things that he had shown them.
12 Ó ṣe ìyanu níwájú àwọn baba wọn ní ilẹ̀ Ejibiti, ní agbègbè Ṣoani.
They forgot the marvelous things he did in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the land of Zoan.
13 Ó pín òkun ní yà, ó sì mú wọn kọjá Ó mù kí omi náà dúró bi odi gíga.
He divided the sea and led them across it; he made the waters to stand like walls.
14 Ní ọ̀sán, ó fi ìkùùkuu àwọsánmọ̀ ṣe amọ̀nà wọn àti ní gbogbo òru pẹ̀lú ìmọ́lẹ̀ iná.
In the daytime he led them with a cloud and all the night with the light of fire.
15 Ó sán àpáta ní aginjù ó sì fún wọn ní omi mímu lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ bí ẹni pé láti inú ibú wá.
He split the rocks in the wilderness, and he gave them water abundantly, enough to fill the depths of the sea.
16 Ó mú ìṣàn omi jáde láti inú àpáta omi ṣíṣàn sílẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí odò.
He made streams flow out of the rock and made the water flow like rivers.
17 Wọ́n sì tún tẹ̀síwájú láti dẹ́ṣẹ̀ sí i ní ìṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Ọ̀gá-ògo ní aginjù.
Yet they continued to sin against him, rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.
18 Wọ́n mọ̀ ọ́n mọ̀ dán Ọlọ́run wò nípa bíbéèrè fún oúnjẹ tí wọn bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún.
They challenged God in their hearts by asking for food to satisfy their appetites.
19 Wọ́n sọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí Ọlọ́run, wí pé “Ọlọ́run ha lè tẹ́ tábìlì ní aginjù?
They spoke against God; they said, “Can God really lay out a table for us in the wilderness?
20 Nígbà tí ó lu àpáta, omi tú jáde, odò sì sàn lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n òun ha lè fún wa lóúnjẹ ó ha le pèsè ẹran fún àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀?”
See, when he struck the rock, waters gushed out and streams overflowed. But can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
21 Nígbà tí Olúwa gbọ́ wọn, ó bínú gidigidi; iná rẹ̀ sọ̀kalẹ̀ sí Jakọbu, ìbínú rẹ̀ sì rú sí Israẹli,
When Yahweh heard this, he was angry; so his fire burned against Jacob, and his anger attacked Israel,
22 nítorí wọn kò gba Ọlọ́run gbọ́, wọn kò sì gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ìgbàlà rẹ̀.
because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.
23 Síbẹ̀ ó pàṣẹ fún ìràwọ̀ ojú ọ̀run, ó sì ṣí ìlẹ̀kùn ọ̀run sílẹ̀;
Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of the sky.
24 Ó rọ manna fún àwọn ènìyàn láti jẹ, ó fún wọn ní ọkà láti ọ̀run.
He rained down manna for them to eat, and gave them the grain from heaven.
25 Àwọn ènìyàn jẹ oúnjẹ àwọn angẹli; Ó fún wọn ní oúnjẹ ní àjẹyó,
People ate the bread of angels. He sent them food in abundance.
26 Ó mú afẹ́fẹ́ ìlà-oòrùn láti ọ̀run wá ó mú afẹ́fẹ́ gúúsù wá nípa agbára rẹ̀.
He caused the east wind to blow in the sky, and by his power he guided the south wind.
27 Ó rọ òjò ẹran sílẹ̀ sórí wọn bí erùpẹ̀ ilẹ̀, àti ẹyẹ abìyẹ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí iyanrìn etí òkun
He rained down meat on them like dust, birds as numerous as the sands of the sea.
28 Ó jẹ́ kí wọn jáde ní ibùdó wọn, yíká àgọ́ wọn.
They fell in the middle of their camp, all around their tents.
29 Wọ́n jẹ, wọ́n sì yó jọjọ nítorí ó ti fún wọn ní ohun tí wọn fìtara bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún.
So they ate and were full. He gave them what they craved.
30 Ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò kúrò nínú oúnjẹ tí wọn fìtara bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún, nígbà tí oúnjẹ wọn sì wà ní ẹnu wọn,
But they had not yet filled up; their food was still in their mouths.
31 ìbínú Ọlọ́run dìde sí wọn ó pa àwọn tí ó jùlọ nínú wọn, ó sì lu àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin Israẹli bolẹ̀.
Then God's anger attacked them and killed the strongest of them. He brought down the young men of Israel.
32 Nínú gbogbo ìwọ̀nyí, wọ́n ń dẹ́ṣẹ̀ síwájú; nínú gbogbo iṣẹ́ ìyanu rẹ̀, wọ́n kò gbàgbọ́.
Despite this, they continued to sin and did not believe his wonderful deeds.
33 O fi òpin sí ayé wọn nínú asán àti ọdún wọn nínú ìpayà.
Therefore God cut short their days; their years were filled with terror.
34 Nígbàkígbà tí Ọlọ́run bá pa wọ́n, wọn yóò wá a kiri; wọn yóò fi ìtara yípadà sí i.
Whenever God afflicted them, they would start to seek him, and they would return and look earnestly for him.
35 Wọ́n rántí pé Ọlọ́run ní àpáta wọn; wí pé Ọlọ́run Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ ni olùràpadà àpáta wọn.
They would call to mind that God was their rock and that the Most High God was their rescuer.
36 Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà náà ni wọ́n yóò pọ́n ọn pẹ̀lú ẹnu wọ́n wọ́n fi ahọ́n wọ́n purọ́ fún un;
But they would flatter him with their mouth and lie to him with their words.
37 ọkàn wọn kò sòtítọ́ sí i, wọn kò jẹ́ olódodo sí májẹ̀mú rẹ̀.
For their hearts were not firmly fixed on him, and they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Síbẹ̀ ó ṣàánú; ó dárí àìṣedéédéé wọn jì òun kò sì pa wọ́n run nígbà púpọ̀ ló ń yí ìbínú rẹ̀ padà kò sì ru ìbínú rẹ̀ sókè
Yet he, being merciful, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. Yes, many times he held back his anger and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 Ó rántí pé ẹlẹ́ran ara ni wọ́n, afẹ́fẹ́ tó ń kọjá tí kò lè padà.
He called to mind that they were made of flesh, a wind that passes away and does not return.
40 Nígbà gbogbo ní wọn ń ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí i ní aginjù wọn mú un bínú nínú ilẹ̀ tí ó di ahoro!
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the barren regions!
41 Síwájú àti síwájú wọ́n dán Ọlọ́run wò; wọ́n mú ẹni mímọ́ Israẹli bínú.
Again and again they challenged God and offended the Holy One of Israel.
42 Wọ́n kò rántí agbára rẹ̀: ní ọjọ́ tí ó rà wọ́n padà lọ́wọ́ àwọn aninilára,
They did not think about his power, how he had rescued them from the enemy
43 ní ọjọ́ tí ó fi iṣẹ́ ìyanu rẹ̀ hàn ní Ejibiti, àti iṣẹ́ àmì rẹ̀ ni ẹkùn Ṣoani
when he performed his terrifying signs in Egypt and his wonders in the region of Zoan.
44 Ó sọ omi wọn di ẹ̀jẹ̀; wọn kò lè mu láti odò wọn.
He turned the Egyptians' rivers to blood so that they could not drink from their streams.
45 Ó rán ọ̀wọ́ eṣinṣin láti pa wọ́n run, àti ọ̀pọ̀lọ́ tí ó bá wọn jẹun.
He sent swarms of flies that devoured them and frogs that overran their land.
46 Ó fi ọkà wọn fún láńtata, àwọn ìre oko wọn fún eṣú.
He gave their crops to the grasshopper and their labor to the locust.
47 Ó fi yìnyín ba àjàrà wọn jẹ́ ó bá èso sikamore wọn jẹ́.
He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with more hail.
48 Ó fi ohun ọ̀sìn wọn fún yìnyín, agbo ẹran wọn fún mọ̀nàmọ́ná.
He rained hail on their cattle and hurled lightning bolts at their livestock.
49 Ó mú kíkorò ìbínú rẹ̀ wá sí wọn lára, ìrunú àti ìkáàánú, àti ìpọ́njú, nípa rírán angẹli apanirun sí wọn.
The fierceness of his anger lashed out against them. He sent wrath, fury, and trouble like agents who bring disaster.
50 Ó pèsè ipa fún ìbínú rẹ̀, òun kò gbà wọ́n lọ́wọ́ ikú, ṣùgbọ́n ó fi ẹ̀mí wọ́n fún àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn.
He leveled a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague.
51 Ó kọlu àwọn àkọ́bí ọmọ ọkùnrin Ejibiti, olórí agbára wọn nínú àgọ́ Hamu.
He killed all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstborn of their strength in the tents of Ham.
52 Ṣùgbọ́n ó mú àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ jáde bí ọ̀wọ́ ẹran; ó ṣọ́ wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí àgùntàn nínú aginjù.
He led his own people out like sheep and guided them through the wilderness like a flock.
53 Ó dáàbò bò wọ́n dáradára, nítorí náà ni ẹ̀rù kò ṣe bà wọ́n ṣùgbọ́n òkun padé mọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá wọn.
He led them secure and unafraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 Bákan náà ni ó mú wọn wá sí etí ilẹ̀ mímọ́ rẹ̀ òkè tí ọwọ́ ọ̀tún rẹ̀ ti gbà
Then he brought them to the border of his holy land, to this mountain that his right hand acquired.
55 Ó lé kèfèrí jáde níwájú wọn ó sì fi títa okùn pín ilẹ̀ náà fún wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ilẹ̀ ìní; ó mú àwọn ẹ̀yà Israẹli jókòó ní ilẹ̀ wọn.
He drove out the nations from before them and assigned them their inheritance. He settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Ṣùgbọ́n wọn dán Ọlọ́run wò wọn sì ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Ọ̀gá-ògo; wọn kò pa àṣẹ rẹ̀ mọ́.
Yet they challenged and defied the Most High God and did not keep his solemn commands.
57 Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n yípadà, wọn jẹ́ aláìṣòdodo gẹ́gẹ́ bí àwọn baba wọn wọ́n sì pẹ̀yìndà sí apákan bí ọrun ẹ̀tàn.
They were unfaithful and acted treacherously like their fathers; they were as undependable as a faulty bow.
58 Wọ́n bí i nínú pẹ̀lú ibi gíga wọn; wọn rú owú rẹ̀ sókè nípa òrìṣà wọn.
For they made him angry with their high places and provoked him to jealous anger with their idols.
59 Nígbà tí Ọlọ́run gbọ́ wọn, inú bí i gidigidi; ó kọ Israẹli pátápátá.
When God heard this, he was angry and completely rejected Israel.
60 Ó kọ àgọ́ Ṣilo sílẹ̀, àgọ́ tí ó ti gbé kalẹ̀ láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.
He abandoned the sanctuary of Shiloh, the tent where he had lived among people.
61 Ó rán àpótí ẹ̀rí, agbára rẹ̀ lọ sí ìgbèkùn, dídán ògo rẹ̀ lọ sí ọwọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá.
He allowed his strength to be captured and gave his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 Ó fi àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ lé idà lọ́wọ́, ó sì bínú sí àwọn ohun ìní rẹ̀.
He handed his people over to the sword, and he was angry with his heritage.
63 Iná run àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin wọn, àwọn ọmọbìnrin wọn kò sì ní orin ìgbéyàwó:
Fire devoured their young men, and their young women had no wedding songs.
64 àfi àlùfáà wọn fún idà, àwọn opó wọn kò sì le è sọkún.
Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows could not weep.
65 Olúwa sì jí gẹ́gẹ́ bí ẹni ojú oorun, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọkùnrin ti i jí kúrò nínú ìraníyè ọtí.
Then the Lord awakened as one from sleep, like a warrior who shouts because of wine.
66 Ó kọlu àwọn ọ̀tá rẹ̀ padà; ó fi wọn sínú ìtìjú ayérayé.
He drove his adversaries back; he put them to everlasting shame.
67 Nígbà náà ni ó kọ́ àgọ́ Josẹfu, kò sì yan ẹ̀yà Efraimu,
He rejected the tent of Joseph, and he did not chose the tribe of Ephraim.
68 ṣùgbọ́n ó yan ẹ̀yà Juda, òkè Sioni, èyí tí ó fẹ́ràn.
He chose the tribe of Judah and Mount Zion that he loved.
69 Ó kọ́ ibi mímọ́ rẹ̀, ibi gíga, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ayé tí ó fi ìdí rẹ̀ múlẹ̀ títí láé.
He built his sanctuary like the heavens, like the earth that he has established forever.
70 Ó yan Dafidi ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀ ó mú láti inú àwọn agbo ẹran;
He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.
71 Ó mú un jáde nínú ìtọ́jú àgùntàn láti jẹ́ olùṣọ́-àgùntàn àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ Jakọbu àti Israẹli ogún un rẹ̀.
He took him from following the ewes with their young, and he brought him to be shepherd of Jacob, his people, and of Israel, his heritage.
72 Dafidi sì ṣọ́ wọn pẹ̀lú òtítọ́ inú ọkàn; pẹ̀lú ọwọ́ òye ni ó fi darí wọn.
David shepherded them with the integrity of his heart, and he guided them with the skill of his hands.
