< Proverbs 4 >

1 Tẹ́tí, ẹ̀yin ọmọ mi, sí ẹ̀kọ́ baba; fetísílẹ̀ kí o sì ní òye sí i.
Heare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.
2 Mo fún ọ ní ẹ̀kọ́ tí ó yè kooro, nítorí náà, má ṣe kọ ẹ̀kọ́ mi sílẹ̀.
For I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.
3 Nígbà tí mo jẹ́ ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin ní ilé baba à mí, mo jẹ́ èwe, tí mo sì jẹ́ ọ̀kan ṣoṣo lọ́wọ́ ìyá mi.
For I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,
4 Ó kọ́ mi ó sì wí pé, “Jẹ́ kí àyà rẹ kí ó gba ọ̀rọ̀ mi dúró, pa òfin mi mọ́, kí ìwọ kí ó sì yè.
When he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.
5 Gba ọgbọ́n, gba òye, má ṣe gbàgbé ọ̀rọ̀ mi tàbí kí o yẹsẹ̀ kúrò nínú rẹ̀.
Get wisedom: get vnderstading: forget not, neither decline from the woordes of my mouth.
6 Má ṣe kọ ọgbọ́n sílẹ̀, yóò sì dáàbò bò ọ́, fẹ́ràn rẹ̀, yóò sì bojútó ọ.
Forsake her not, and shee shall keepe thee: loue her and shee shall preserue thee.
7 Ọgbọ́n ni ó ga jù; nítorí náà gba ọgbọ́n. Bí ó tilẹ̀ ná gbogbo ohun tí o ní, gba òye.
Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.
8 Gbé e ga, yóò sì gbé ọ ga dìrọ̀ mọ́ ọn, yóò sì bu iyì fún ọ.
Exalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.
9 Yóò fi òdòdó ọ̀ṣọ́ ẹwà sí orí rẹ yóò sì fi adé ẹlẹ́wà fún ọ.”
She shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.
10 Tẹ́tí, ọmọ mi, gba ohun tí mo sọ, ọjọ́ ayé è rẹ yóò sì gùn.
Heare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.
11 Mo tọ́ ọ ṣọ́nà ní ọ̀nà ti ọgbọ́n mo sì mú ọ lọ ní ọ̀nà ti tààrà.
I haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.
12 Nígbà tí o rìn, ìgbésẹ̀ rẹ kò ní ní ìdíwọ́ nígbà tí o bá sáré, ìwọ kì yóò kọsẹ̀.
Whe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.
13 Di ẹ̀kọ́ mú, má ṣe jẹ́ kí ó lọ; tọ́jú u rẹ̀ dáradára nítorí òun ni ìyè rẹ.
Take holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.
14 Má ṣe gbé ẹsẹ̀ rẹ sí ojú ọnà àwọn ènìyàn búburú tàbí kí o rìn ní ọ̀nà àwọn ẹni ibi.
Enter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.
15 Yẹra fún un, má ṣe rìn níbẹ̀; yàgò fún un kí o sì bá ọ̀nà tìrẹ lọ.
Auoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.
16 Nítorí wọn kò le sùn àyàfi tí wọ́n bá ṣe ibi, wọn kò ní tòògbé àyàfi tí wọ́n bá gbé ẹlòmíràn ṣubú.
For they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.
17 Wọ́n ń jẹ oúnjẹ ìwà búburú wọ́n sì ń mu wáìnì ìwà ìkà.
For they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.
18 Ipa ọ̀nà olódodo dàbí àṣẹ̀ṣẹ̀yọ oòrùn tí ń tànmọ́lẹ̀ sí i títí ọjọ́ fi kanrí
But the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.
19 ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀nà ènìyàn búburú dàbí òkùnkùn biribiri; wọn kò mọ ohun tí ó ń mú wọn kọsẹ̀.
The way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.
20 Ọmọ mi, tẹ́tí sí ohun tí mo sọ; fetísílẹ̀ dáradára sí ọ̀rọ̀ mi.
My sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.
21 Má ṣe jẹ́ kí wọ́n rá mọ́ ọ lójú pa wọ́n mọ́ sínú ọkàn rẹ,
Let them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.
22 nítorí ìyè ni wọ́n jẹ́ fún gbogbo ẹni tí ó rí wọn àti ìlera fún gbogbo ara ènìyàn.
For they are life vnto those that find them, and health vnto all their flesh.
23 Ju gbogbo nǹkan tókù lọ, pa ọkàn rẹ mọ́, nítorí òun ni orísun ìyè.
Keepe thine heart with all diligence: for thereout commeth life.
24 Mú àrékérekè kúrò ní ẹnu rẹ; sì jẹ́ kí ọ̀rọ̀ ìsọkúsọ jìnnà réré sí ẹnu rẹ.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.
25 Jẹ́ kí ojú rẹ máa wo iwájú, jẹ́ kí ìwo ojú rẹ máa wo ọ̀kánkán iwájú rẹ sá á.
Let thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.

Ponder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.

Turne not to the right hande, nor to the left, but remooue thy foote from euill.
