< Proverbs 3 >
1 Ọmọ mi, má ṣe gbàgbé ẹ̀kọ́ mi. Ṣùgbọ́n pa òfin mi mọ́ sí ọkàn rẹ.
My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart guard my precepts.
2 Nítorí ọjọ́ gígùn, ẹ̀mí gígùn, àti àlàáfíà, ni wọn yóò fi kùn un fún ọ.
For they shall set before you length of days, and years of life, and peace.
3 Má ṣe jẹ́ kí ìfẹ́ àti òtítọ́ ṣíṣe fi ọ́ sílẹ̀ láéláé so wọ́n mọ́ ọrùn rẹ, kọ wọ́n sí wàláà àyà rẹ.
Let not mercy and truth abandon you: encircle them around your throat, and inscribe them on the tablets of your heart.
4 Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò rí ojúrere àti orúkọ rere ní ojú Ọlọ́run àti lójú ènìyàn.
And so shall you discover grace and good discipline, in the sight of God and men.
5 Gbẹ́kẹ̀lé Olúwa pẹ̀lú gbogbo ọkàn rẹ má ṣe sinmi lé òye ara à rẹ.
Have confidence in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend upon your own prudence.
6 Mọ̀ ọ́n ní gbogbo ọ̀nà rẹ òun yóò sì máa tọ́ ipa ọ̀nà rẹ.
In all your ways, consider him, and he himself will direct your steps.
7 Má ṣe jẹ́ ọlọ́gbọ́n lójú ara à rẹ bẹ̀rù Olúwa kí o sì kórìíra ibi.
Do not seem wise to yourself. Fear God, and withdraw from evil.
8 Èyí yóò mú ìlera fún ara rẹ àti okun fún àwọn egungun rẹ.
Certainly, it shall be health to your navel, and refreshment to your bones.
9 Fi ọrọ̀ rẹ bọ̀wọ̀ fún Olúwa, pẹ̀lú àkọ́so oko rẹ,
Honor the Lord with your substance, and give to him from the first of all your fruits,
10 nígbà náà ni àká rẹ yóò kún àkúnya àgbá rẹ yóò kún àkúnwọ́sílẹ̀ fún wáìnì tuntun.

11 Ọmọ mi, má ṣe kẹ́gàn ìbáwí Olúwa má sì ṣe bínú nígbà tí ó bá ń bá ọ wí,
My son, do not discard the discipline of the Lord, and do not fall away when you are corrected by him.
12 nítorí Olúwa a máa bá àwọn tí ó fẹ́ràn wí bí baba ti í bá ọmọ tí ó bá nínú dídùn sí wí.
For whomever the Lord loves, he corrects, and just as a father does with a son, he wins him over.
13 Ìbùkún ni fún ẹni tí ó ní ìmọ̀, ẹni tí ó tún ní òye sí i,
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom and who advances to prudence.
14 nítorí ó ṣe èrè ju fàdákà lọ ó sì ní èrè lórí ju wúrà lọ.
Her acquisition is better than trading in silver, and her fruit is better than the first and purest gold.
15 Ó ṣe iyebíye ju iyùn lọ; kò sí ohunkóhun tí a lè fiwé e nínú ohun gbogbo tí ìwọ fẹ́.
She is more precious than all riches, and all that can be desired cannot prevail in comparison to her.
16 Ẹ̀mí gígùn ń bẹ ní ọwọ́ ọ̀tún rẹ̀; ní ọwọ́ òsì rẹ sì ni ọrọ̀ àti ọlá.
Length of days is at her right hand, and at her left hand is wealth and glory.
17 Àwọn ọ̀nà rẹ jẹ́ ọ̀nà ìtura, òpópónà rẹ sì jẹ́ ti àlàáfíà.
Her ways are beautiful ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 Igi ìyè ni ó jẹ́ fún gbogbo ẹni tí ó bá gbà á; àwọn tí ó bá sì dìímú yóò rí ìbùkún gbà.
She is a tree of life to those who overtake her, and he who shall take hold of her is blessed.
19 Nípa ọgbọ́n, Olúwa fi ìpìlẹ̀ ilẹ̀ ayé sọlẹ̀; nípa òye, ó fi àwọn ọ̀run sí ipò wọn;
The Lord founded the earth on wisdom. He secured the heavens with prudence.
20 nípa ìmọ̀ rẹ̀ ó pín ibú omi ní yà, àwọsánmọ̀ sì ń sẹ ìrì.
By his wisdom, the abyss erupted and the clouds increased with dew.
21 Ọmọ mi, pa ọgbọ́n tí ó yè kooro àti ìmòye mọ́, má jẹ́ kí wọn lọ kúrò ní ibi tí ojú rẹ ti le tó wọn.
My son, let not these things move away from your eyes. Preserve law as well as counsel.
22 Wọn yóò jẹ́ ìyè fún ọ, àti ẹ̀ṣọ́ fún ọrùn rẹ.
And so shall there be life in your soul and grace in your voice.
23 Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò bá ọ̀nà rẹ lọ ní àìléwu, ìwọ kì yóò sì kọsẹ̀.
Then you shall walk confidently in your way, and your feet will not stumble.
24 Nígbà tí ìwọ bá dùbúlẹ̀, ìwọ kì yóò bẹ̀rù, nígbà tí ìwọ bá dùbúlẹ̀, oorun rẹ yóò jẹ́ oorun ayọ̀.
When you slumber, you shall not fear. When you rest, your sleep also will be sweet.
25 Má ṣe bẹ̀rù ìdààmú òjijì, tàbí ti ìparun tí ó ń dé bá àwọn ènìyàn búburú.
Do not fear unexpected terror, nor the power of the impious falling upon you.
26 Nítorí Olúwa yóò jẹ́ ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé rẹ, kì yóò sì jẹ́ kí ẹsẹ̀ rẹ bọ́ sínú pàkúté.
For the Lord will be at your side, and he will guard your feet, so that you may not be seized.
27 Má ṣe fa ọwọ́ ìre sẹ́yìn kúrò lọ́dọ̀ àwọn tí ṣe tìrẹ, nígbà tí ó bá wà ní ìkápá rẹ láti ṣe ohun kan.
Do not prevent him who is able from doing good. When you are able, do good yourself too.

Do not say to your friend: “Go away, and then return. Tomorrow I will give to you.” When you are able to do so, give in the present.
29 Má ṣe pète ohun búburú fún aládùúgbò rẹ, ti o gbé nítòsí rẹ, tí ó sì fọkàn tán ọ.
Do not undertake evil against your friend, even though he has trust in you.
30 Má ṣe fẹ̀sùn kan ènìyàn láìnídìí, nígbà tí kò ṣe ọ́ ní ibi kankan rárá.
Do not contend against a man without cause, even though he has done no evil to you.
31 Má ṣe ṣe ìlara ènìyàn jàgídíjàgan tàbí kí o yàn láti rìn ní ọ̀nà rẹ̀.
Do not rival an unjust man, and do not imitate his ways.
32 Nítorí Olúwa kórìíra ènìyàn aláyídáyidà ṣùgbọ́n a máa fọkàn tán ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin.
For everyone who ridicules is an abomination to the Lord, and his communication is for the simple.
33 Ègún Olúwa ń bẹ lórí ilé ènìyàn búburú, ṣùgbọ́n ó bùkún fún ilé olódodo.
Destitution in the house of the impious is from the Lord. But the habitations of the just shall be blessed.
34 Ó fi àwọn ẹlẹ́yà ṣe yẹ̀yẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n ó fi oore-ọ̀fẹ́ fún onírẹ̀lẹ̀.
He will ridicule those who ridicule, but he will bestow grace upon the mild.
35 Ọlọ́gbọ́n jogún iyì, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn aṣiwèrè ni yóò ru ìtìjú wọn.
The wise will possess glory. The exaltation of the foolish is disgraceful.
