< Proverbs 28 >

1 Ènìyàn búburú ń sá bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé ẹnìkan kò lé e ṣùgbọ́n olódodo láyà bí i kìnnìún.
The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2 Nígbà tí orílẹ̀-èdè bá ní orí kunkun, àwọn ọba rẹ̀ a máa pọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n olóye àti onímọ̀ a máa pa òfin mọ́.
In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.
3 Ọba tí ó ni àwọn tálákà lára dàbí àgbàrá òjò tí ó ń gbá gbogbo ọ̀gbìn lọ.
A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.
4 Àwọn tí ó kọ òfin sílẹ̀ a máa gbóríyìn fún ènìyàn búburú ṣùgbọ́n àwọn tí ó pa òfin mọ́ kọjú ìjà sí ènìyàn búburú.
Those who forsake the Law praise the wicked; but those who keep the Law contend with them.
5 Òye ìdájọ́ òdodo kò yé àwọn ẹni ibi ṣùgbọ́n ó yé àwọn tí ń wá Olúwa dáradára.
Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.
6 Ó sàn láti jẹ́ tálákà tí ìrìn rẹ̀ jẹ́ aláìlábùkù ju ọlọ́rọ̀ tí ọ̀nà rẹ̀ rí pálapàla.
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.
7 Ẹni tí ó pa òfin mọ́ jẹ́ olóye ọmọ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá ẹ́ jẹgúdújẹrá kẹ́gbẹ́ dójútì baba rẹ̀.
Whoever keeps the Law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.
8 Ẹni tí ó mú ọrọ̀ rẹ̀ di púpọ̀ nípa èrè àjẹjù ń kó jọ fún ẹlòmíràn, tí yóò ní àánú àwọn tálákà.
He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.
9 Bí ẹnikẹ́ni bá kọ etí ikún sí òfin, kódà àdúrà rẹ̀ jẹ́ ìríra.
He who turns away his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Ẹni tí ó mú olódodo rìn ọ̀nà búburú yóò bọ́ sínú pàkúté ara rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n aláìlẹ́gàn yóò gba ogún rere.
Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good.
11 Ọlọ́rọ̀ ènìyàn le è gbọ́n lójú ara rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n tálákà tí ó ní òye rí ìdí, rẹ̀.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.
12 Nígbà tí olódodo ń lékè ariwo ayọ̀ ta; ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ènìyàn búburú gorí òye, àwọn ènìyàn a na pápá bora.
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.
13 Ẹni tí ó bo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀ mọ́lẹ̀ kì yóò ṣe rere, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá jẹ́wọ́ tí ó sì kọ̀ wọ́n sílẹ̀ máa ń rí àánú gbà.
He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Ìbùkún ni fún ènìyàn náà tí ó bẹ̀rù Ọlọ́run nígbà gbogbo ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó sé ọkàn rẹ̀ le bọ́ sínú wàhálà.
Blessed is the man who is always reverent; but the one who hardens his heart will fall into evil.
15 Bí kìnnìún tí ń ké tàbí Beari tí ń halẹ̀ ni ènìyàn búburú tí ń jẹ ọba lórí àwọn aláìlágbára.
As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.
16 Ọmọ-aládé tí ó ṣe aláìmòye púpọ̀ ní ń ṣe ìwà ìkà púpọ̀ pẹ̀lú, ṣùgbọ́n èyí tí ó kórìíra ojúkòkòrò yóò mú ọjọ́ rẹ̀ pẹ́.
A prince who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor, but one who hates ill-gotten gain will prolong his days.
17 Ẹni tí ọkàn rẹ̀ kò balẹ̀ nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ìpànìyàn yóò máa joró rẹ̀ títí ikú má ṣe jẹ́ kí ẹnikẹ́ni ràn án lọ́wọ́.
A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him.
18 Ẹni tí ń rìn déédéé ní yóò là, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ọ̀nà rẹ̀ jẹ́ àyídáyidà ni yóò ṣubú lójijì.
Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.
19 Ẹni tí ó bá ro ilẹ̀ rẹ̀ yóò ní oúnjẹ lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń lé ohun asán yóò kún fún òsì.
One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.
20 Olóòtítọ́ ènìyàn yóò rí ìbùkún gbà gan an ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ojú ń kán láti di ọlọ́rọ̀ kì yóò lọ láìjìyà.
A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 Ojúsàájú ṣíṣe kò dára, síbẹ̀ ènìyàn kan ń ṣẹ̀ nítorí òkèlè oúnjẹ kan.
To show partiality is not good; yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.
22 Ahun ń sáré àti là kò sì funra pé òsì dúró de òun.
A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.
23 Ẹni tí ó bá ènìyàn kan wí yóò rí ojúrere ni nígbẹ̀yìn ju ẹni tí ó ní ètè ẹ̀tàn lọ.
One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue.
24 Ẹni tí ó ja baba tàbí ìyá rẹ̀ lólè tí ó sì wí pé, “Kì í ṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀,” irú kan ni òun àti ẹni tí ń pa ni run.
Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It's not wrong." He is a partner with a destroyer.
25 Ọ̀kánjúwà ènìyàn a máa dá ìjà sílẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá gbẹ́kẹ̀lé Olúwa yóò gbilẹ̀.
One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 Ẹni tí ó gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ara rẹ̀ jẹ́ aláìgbọ́n ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń rìn nínú ọgbọ́n wà láìléwu.
One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
27 Ẹni tí ó ń fi fún tálákà kì yóò ṣe aláìní ohunkóhun, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó di ojú rẹ̀ sí wọn gba ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ègún.
One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
28 Nígbà tí ènìyàn búburú bá dórí ìjọba, àwọn ènìyàn a na pápá bora; ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ènìyàn búburú bá ṣègbé, àwọn olódodo ń gbilẹ̀ sí i.
When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive.
