< Proverbs 21 >
1 Ọkàn ọba ń bẹ lọ́wọ́ Olúwa; a máa darí rẹ̀ lọ ibi tí ó fẹ́ bí ipa omi.
The king's heart is in Jehovah's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
2 Gbogbo ọ̀nà ènìyàn dàbí i pé ó dára lójú rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n, Olúwa ló ń díwọ̀n ọkàn.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Jehovah weighs the hearts.
3 Ṣíṣe ohun tí ó dára tí ó sì tọ̀nà ó ṣe ìtẹ́wọ́gbà sí Olúwa ju ẹbọ lọ.
To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.
4 Ojú tí ó gbéga àti ọkàn ìgbéraga, ìmọ́lẹ̀ àwọn ènìyàn búburú, ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ni!
A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
5 Ètè àwọn olóye jásí èrè bí ìkánjú ṣe máa ń fa òsì kíákíá.
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
6 Ìṣúra tí a kójọ nípasẹ̀ ahọ́n tí ń parọ́ jẹ́ ìrì lásán àti ìkẹ́kùn ikú.
Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.
7 Ìwà ipá àwọn ènìyàn búburú yóò wọ́ wọn lọ, nítorí wọ́n kọ̀ láti ṣe ohun tí ó tọ́.
The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.
8 Ọ̀nà ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ kún fún ìwà ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n iṣẹ́ onínú funfun jẹ́ títọ́.
The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9 Ó sàn láti máa gbé ní kọ̀rọ̀ orí òrùlé ju láti ṣe àjọpín ilé pẹ̀lú aya oníjà.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.
10 Ènìyàn búburú ń fẹ́ ibi aládùúgbò rẹ̀ kì í rí àánú kankan gbà lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀.
The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.
11 Nígbà tí a bá ń fìyà jẹ ẹlẹ́gàn, òpè a máa kọ́gbọ́n, nígbà tí a bá sì kọ́ ọlọ́gbọ́n yóò ní ìmọ̀.
When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12 Olódodo ṣàkíyèsí ilé ènìyàn búburú ó sì mú ènìyàn búburú wá sí ìparun.
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.
13 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá ti di etí rẹ̀ sí igbe olùpọ́njú, òun tìkára rẹ̀ yóò ké pẹ̀lú; ṣùgbọ́n a kì yóò gbọ́.
Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.
14 Ọ̀rẹ́ ìkọ̀kọ̀, mú ìbínú kúrò: àti owó àbẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ láti ibi ìkọ̀kọ̀ wá, dẹ́kun ìbínú líle.
A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.
15 Ayọ̀ ni fún olódodo láti ṣe ìdájọ́: ṣùgbọ́n ìparun ni fún àwọn oníṣẹ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀.
It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to evildoers.
16 Ẹni tí ó bá yà kúrò ní ọ̀nà òye, yóò máa gbé inú ìjọ àwọn òkú.
The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the dead.
17 Ẹni tí ó bá fẹ́ afẹ́, yóò di tálákà: ẹni tí ó fẹ́ ọtí wáìnì pẹ̀lú òróró kò le lọ́rọ̀.
He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 Ènìyàn búburú ni yóò ṣe owó ìràpadà fún olódodo, àti olùrékọjá fún ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin.
The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; the treacherous for the upright.
19 Ó sàn láti jókòó ní aginjù ju pẹ̀lú oníjà obìnrin àti òṣónú lọ.
It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
20 Ìṣúra iyebíye àti òróró wà ní ibùgbé ọlọ́gbọ́n; ṣùgbọ́n òmùgọ̀ ènìyàn n bà á jẹ́.
There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.
21 Ẹni tí ó bá tẹ̀lé òdodo àti àánú yóò rí ìyè, òdodo, àti ọlá.
He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22 Ọlọ́gbọ́n gòkè odi ìlú àwọn alágbára, ó sì bi ibi gíga agbára ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé wọn ṣubú.
A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.
23 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá pa ẹnu àti ahọ́n rẹ̀ mọ́, ó pa ọkàn rẹ̀ mọ́ kúrò nínú ìyọnu.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24 Agbéraga àti alágídí ènìyàn ń gan orúkọ ara rẹ̀ nítorí ó ń hùwà nínú ìwà ìgbéraga rẹ̀, àti nínú ìbínú púpọ̀púpọ̀.
The proud and haughty man, "scoffer" is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride.
25 Ẹlẹ́rìí èké yóò ṣègbé, àwọn tí ó gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ yóò parun láé; nítorí tí ọwọ́ rẹ̀ kọ iṣẹ́ ṣíṣe.
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
26 Ó ń fi ìlara ṣe ojúkòkòrò ní gbogbo ọjọ́: ṣùgbọ́n olódodo a máa fi fún ni kì í sì í dáwọ́ dúró.
There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and do not withhold.
27 Ẹbọ ènìyàn búburú, ìríra ni: mélòó mélòó ni nígbà tí ó mú un wá pẹ̀lú èrò ìwà ibi?
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind.
28 Ẹlẹ́rìí èké yóò ṣègbé: ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rọ̀ ẹni tí ó gbọ́, yóò dúró.
A false witness will perish, and a man who listens speaks to eternity.
29 Ènìyàn búburú mú ojú ara rẹ̀ le: ṣùgbọ́n ẹni ìdúró ṣinṣin ni ó ń mú ọ̀nà rẹ̀ tọ́.
A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.
30 Kò sí ọgbọ́n, kò sí ìmòye, tàbí ìmọ̀ràn tí ó le mókè níwájú Olúwa.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Jehovah.
31 A ń múra ẹṣin sílẹ̀ de ọjọ́ ogun: ṣùgbọ́n ìṣẹ́gun jẹ́ ti Olúwa.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Jehovah.
