< Proverbs 2 >

1 Ọmọ mi, bí ìwọ bá gba ọ̀rọ̀ mi, tí ìwọ sì pa òfin mi mọ́ sí inú rẹ,
My son, if thou wilt receive my sayings, and, my commandments, wilt treasure up by thee;
2 tí ìwọ dẹtí rẹ sílẹ̀ sí ọgbọ́n tí ìwọ sì fi ọkàn rẹ sí òye,
So that thou direct, unto wisdom, thine ear, bend thy heart, unto understanding;
3 àní, bí ìwọ bá ké tọ ìmọ̀ lẹ́yìn, tí ìwọ sì gbé ohùn rẹ sókè fún òye
Yea if, for understanding, thou cry aloud, for knowledge, utter thy voice;
4 bí ìwọ bá ṣàfẹ́rí rẹ̀ bí i fàdákà tí ìwọ sì wa kiri bí ìṣúra tí a fi pamọ́.
If thou seek her as silver, and, like hid treasure, thou search for her,
5 Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò bẹ̀rù Olúwa, ìwọ yóò sì rí ìmọ̀ Ọlọ́run.
Then, shalt thou understand the reverence of Yahweh, and, the knowledge of God, shalt thou find.
6 Nítorí Olúwa ni ó ń fún ni ní ọgbọ́n, láti ẹnu rẹ̀ sì ni ìmọ̀ àti òye ti ń wá.
For, Yahweh, giveth wisdom, out of his mouth, knowledge and understanding;
7 Ó to ìgbàlà fún àwọn olódodo, Òun ni asà fún àwọn tí ń rìn déédé,
Yea he treasureth, for the upright, safety, A shield [is he] to them who walk in integrity,
8 Ó pa ipa ọ̀nà ìdájọ́ mọ́ Ó sì ń pa ọ̀nà àwọn àyànfẹ́ rẹ̀ mọ́.
To him that observeth the paths of justice, yea, the way of his men of lovingkindness, he doth guard.
9 Nígbà náà ni ìwọ yóò mọ òdodo àti ìdájọ́, àti àìṣègbè—gbogbo ipa ọ̀nà rere.
Then, shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, and equity—every noble course.
10 Nítorí ọgbọ́n yóò wọ inú ọkàn rẹ ìmọ̀ yóò sì jẹ́ ìtura fún ọkàn rẹ.
When wisdom entereth thy heart, and, knowledge, to thy soul, is sweet,
11 Ìmòye yóò pa ọ mọ́ òye yóò sì máa ṣọ́ ọ.
Discretion, shall watch over thee, understanding, shall preserve thee: —
12 Ọgbọ́n yóò gbà ọ́ là kúrò ní ọ̀nà àwọn ènìyàn búburú, lọ́dọ̀ àwọn ènìyàn tí ọrọ̀ ọ wọn jẹ́ àyídáyidà,
To rescue thee from the way of the wrongful, from the man that speaketh perverse things;
13 ẹni tí ó kúrò ní ọ̀nà ìdúró ṣinṣin láti rìn ní ọ̀nà tí ó ṣókùnkùn,
From them who forsake the paths of rectitude, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 ẹni tí ó yọ̀ nínú ṣíṣe búburú, tí ó ṣe inú dídùn sí àyídáyidà àwọn ènìyàn ibi,
Who rejoice to do wrong, exult in the perversities of the wrongful;
15 ọ̀nà ẹni tí ó wọ́ tí wọ́n sì jẹ́ alárékérekè ní ọ̀nà wọn.
Whose paths, are twisted, and they are tortuous in their tracks:
16 Yóò gba ìwọ pẹ̀lú là kúrò lọ́wọ́ àwọn àjèjì obìnrin, àní, lọ́wọ́ obìnrin àjèjì tí ń fi ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu rẹ̀ tannijẹ,
To rescue thee, from the woman that is a stranger, from the female unknown, who with her speeches seduceth;
17 ẹni tí ó ti kọ ọkọ àkọ́fẹ́ ìgbà èwe rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ tí ó sì gbàgbé májẹ̀mú tí ó ti dá níwájú Ọlọ́run rẹ̀.
Who forsaketh the friend of her youth, and, the covenant of her God, hath forgotten;
18 Nítorí ilé rẹ̀ jẹ́ ọ̀nà sí ikú ipa ọ̀nà rẹ̀ sọ́dọ̀ àwọn òkú.
For she hath appointed, unto death, her house, and unto the shades, her courses;
19 Kò sẹ́ni tó lọ sọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ tí ó padà bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọn kì í dé ọ̀nà ìyè.
None who go in unto her, come back, neither attain they unto the paths of life:
20 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ìwọ yóò rìn ní ọ̀nà àwọn ènìyàn rere kí ìwọ kí ó sì pa ọ̀nà àwọn olódodo mọ́.
To the end that thou walk in the way of good men, and, the paths of the righteous, that thou observe.
21 Nítorí ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin yóò gbé ní ilé náà àwọn aláìlẹ́gàn sì ni yóò máa wà nínú rẹ̀.
For, the upright, shall abide on the earth, —and, the men of integrity, shall remain therein;
22 Ṣùgbọ́n a ó ké ènìyàn búburú kúrò lórí ilẹ̀ náà a ó sì fa àwọn aláìṣòótọ́ tu kúrò lórí rẹ̀.
But, the lawless, out of the earth, shall be cut off, and, traitors, shall they tear away therefrom.
