< Proverbs 16 >

1 Ti ènìyàn ni ìgbèrò inú ọkàn ṣùgbọ́n láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa ni ìdáhùn ahọ́n ti ń wá.
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
2 Gbogbo ọ̀nà ènìyàn ni ó dàbí i pé ó dára lójú ara rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n Olúwa ló ń díwọ̀n èrò inú ọkàn.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weights the spirits.
3 Fi ohun gbogbo tí o bá ṣe lé Olúwa lọ́wọ́, èrò rẹ yóò sì ṣe é ṣe.
Commit your works unto the LORD, and your thoughts shall be established.
4 Olúwa ti ṣe ohun gbogbo láti mú kí ó rí bí ó ṣe fẹ́ kódà ènìyàn búburú fún ọjọ́ ìpọ́njú.
The LORD has made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Olúwa kórìíra gbogbo ẹni tí ń gbéraga lọ́kàn rẹ̀ mọ èyí dájú pé wọn kò ní lọ láìjìyà.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 Nípasẹ̀ ìfẹ́ àti òtítọ́ a ṣe ètùtù ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ nípasẹ̀ ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa ènìyàn sá fún ibi.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
7 Nígbà tí ọ̀nà ènìyàn bá tẹ́ Olúwa lọ́rùn, yóò mú kí àwọn ọ̀tá rẹ̀ gàn án bá a gbé ní àlàáfíà.
When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Ó sàn kí ó kéré pẹ̀lú òdodo ju èrè púpọ̀ pẹ̀lú èrú lọ.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9 Ènìyàn a máa pète ọ̀nà ara rẹ̀ lọ́kàn an rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n Olúwa ní í pinnu ìgbésẹ̀ rẹ̀.
A man's heart devises his way: but the LORD directs his steps.
10 Ètè ọba a máa sọ̀rọ̀ nípa àṣẹ sí i ẹnu rẹ̀ kò gbọdọ̀ ṣèké.
A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth trangresses not in judgment.
11 Òdínwọ̀n àti òsùwọ̀n òtítọ́ wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa; gbogbo wíwúwo àpò jẹ́ láti ọwọ́ rẹ̀.
A just weight and balance are the LORD's: all the weights of the bag are his work.
12 Àwọn ọba kórìíra ìwà àìtọ́ nítorí òdodo ní í fi ìdí ìtẹ́ múlẹ̀.
It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Àwọn ọba ní inú dídùn sí ètè tí ń ṣọ òtítọ́, wọ́n sì fẹ́ ẹni tí ń sọ̀rọ̀ òtítọ́.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right.
14 Ìránṣẹ́ ikú ni ìbínú ọba jẹ́ ṣùgbọ́n ọlọ́gbọ́n ènìyàn yóò tù ú nínú.
The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 Nígbà tí ojú ọba bá túká, ó túmọ̀ sí ìyè; ojúrere rẹ̀ dàbí i ṣíṣú òjò ní ìgbà òjò.
In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 Ó ti dára tó láti ní ọgbọ́n ju wúrà lọ àti láti yan òye dípò o fàdákà!
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 Òpópó ọ̀nà àwọn ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin yàgò fún ibi, ẹni tí ó ṣọ́ ọ̀nà rẹ̀, ṣọ́ ẹnu ara rẹ̀.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way perserves his soul.
18 Ìgbéraga ní í ṣáájú ìparun, agídí ọkàn ní í ṣáájú ìṣubú.
Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Ó sàn láti jẹ́ onírẹ̀lẹ̀ ọkàn láàrín àwọn olùpọ́njú jù láti máa pín ìpín pẹ̀lú àwọn agbéraga.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá tẹ̀lé ẹ̀kọ́ yóò rí ìre, ìbùkún sì ni fún ẹni tí ó gbẹ́kẹ̀lé Olúwa.
He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusts in the LORD, happy is he.
21 Àwọn tí ó gbọ́n nínú ọkàn là ń pè ní olóye ọ̀rọ̀ ìtura sì ń mú ẹ̀kọ́ gbèrú.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increases learning.
22 Òye jẹ́ orísun ìyè fún àwọn tí ó ní i, ṣùgbọ́n ìwà òmùgọ̀ ń kó ìyà jẹ aláìgbọ́n.
Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 Ọkàn ọlọ́gbọ́n ènìyàn a máa ṣọ́ ẹnu rẹ̀ ètè rẹ̀ sì ń mú kí ẹ̀kọ́ dàgbà.
The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.
24 Ọ̀rọ̀ ìtura dàbí afárá oyin ó dùn fún ọkàn, ó sì fi ìlera fún egungun.
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Ọ̀nà kan tí ó dàbí i pé ó dára lójú ènìyàn ṣùgbọ́n ní ìgbẹ̀yìn a ṣokùnfà ikú.
There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
26 Ọkàn alágbàṣe ń ṣiṣẹ́ fún ara rẹ̀; nítorí ebi rẹ̀ mú kí ó máa ṣiṣẹ́ lọ.
He that labours labours for himself; for his mouth craves it of him.
27 Ènìyàn búburú ń pète ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ sì dàbí i iná tí ń jóni.
An ungodly man digs up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 Aláyídáyidà ènìyàn dá ìjà sílẹ̀ olófòófó a sì máa pín ọ̀rẹ́ kòríkòsùn ní yà.
A perverse man sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends.
29 Oníjàgídíjàgan ènìyàn tan aládùúgbò rẹ̀ ó sì mú un sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí ọ̀nà tí kò dára.
A violent man entices his neighbour, and leads him into the way that is not good.
30 Ẹni tí ń ṣẹ́jú ń pètekéte; ẹni tí ó ṣu ẹnu jọ ń pète aburú.
He shuts his eyes to devise perverse things: moving his lips he brings evil to pass.
31 Adé ògo ni ewú orí jẹ́, ìgbé ayé òdodo ní í mú ni dé bẹ̀.
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 Ó sàn láti jẹ́ onísùúrù ju ajagun ènìyàn lọ, ẹni tí ó pa ìbínú mọ́ra ju ajagun ṣẹ́gun ìlú lọ.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.
33 A ṣẹ́ kèké si ìṣẹ́po aṣọ, ṣùgbọ́n gbogbo ìdájọ́ rẹ̀ wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa.
The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
