< Proverbs 13 >

1 Ọlọ́gbọ́n ọmọ gba ẹ̀kọ́ baba rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹlẹ́gàn kò gbọ́ ìbáwí.
A wise son—the instruction of a father, And a scorner—he has not heard rebuke.
2 Láti inú èso ẹnu rẹ̀ ènìyàn ń gbádùn ohun rere, ṣùgbọ́n, ìfẹ́ ọkàn aláìṣòótọ́ ní ìwà ipá.
A man eats good from the fruit of the mouth, And the soul of the treacherous—violence.
3 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ṣọ́ ẹnu rẹ̀ pa ẹnu ara rẹ̀ mọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó ń sọ̀rọ̀ gbàù gbàù yóò parun.
Whoever is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoever is opening wide his lips—ruin to him!
4 Ọkàn ọ̀lẹ ń fẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n kò rí nǹkan kan, ṣùgbọ́n ọkàn àwọn ti kì í ṣe ọ̀lẹ rí ìtẹ́lọ́rùn.
The soul of the slothful is desiring, and does not have. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
5 Olódodo kórìíra ohun tí í ṣe irọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn búburú hu ìwà ìríra àti ìtìjú.
The righteous hates a false word, And the wicked causes abhorrence, and is confounded.
6 Òdodo ń ṣamọ̀nà ènìyàn olóòtítọ́ inú, ṣùgbọ́n ìwà búburú ṣí ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀ ní ipò.
Righteousness keeps him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthrows a sin offering.
7 Ènìyàn kan díbọ́n bí ẹni tí ó ní ọrọ̀ síbẹ̀ kò ní nǹkan kan ẹlòmíràn díbọ́n bí i tálákà, síbẹ̀ ó ní ọrọ̀ púpọ̀.
There is [he] who is making himself rich, and has nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
8 Ọrọ̀ ènìyàn le è ra ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n tálákà kì í gbọ́ ìdẹ́rùbà.
The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches, And the poor has not heard rebuke.
9 Ìmọ́lẹ̀ olódodo tàn roro, ṣùgbọ́n fìtílà ènìyàn búburú ni a pa kú.
The light of the righteous rejoices, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
10 Ìgbéraga máa ń dá ìjà sílẹ̀ ni ṣùgbọ́n ọgbọ́n wà nínú àwọn tí ń gba ìmọ̀ràn.
A vain man causes debate through pride, And wisdom [is] with the counseled.
11 Owó tí a fi ọ̀nà èrú kójọ yóò ṣí lọ, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń kó owó jọ díẹ̀díẹ̀ yóò pọ̀ sí i.
Wealth from vanity becomes little, And whoever is gathering by the hand becomes great.
12 Ìrètí tí ń falẹ̀ máa ń mú kí ọkàn ṣàárẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ìrètí tí a rí gbà jẹ́ igi ìyè.
Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
13 Ẹni tí ó kẹ́gàn ẹ̀kọ́ yóò jìyà rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó pa àṣẹ mọ́ gba èrè rẹ̀.
Whoever is despising the word is destroyed for it, And whoever is fearing the command is repaid.
14 Ìkọ́ni ọlọ́gbọ́n jẹ́ orísun ìyè, tí ń yí ènìyàn padà kúrò nínú ìdẹ̀kùn ikú.
The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
15 Òye pípé ń mú ni rí ojúrere, ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀nà aláìṣòótọ́ kì í tọ́jọ́.
Good understanding gives grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
16 Gbogbo olóye ènìyàn máa ń hùwà pẹ̀lú ìmọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n aláìgbọ́n a fi ìwà òmùgọ̀ rẹ̀ hàn.
Every prudent one deals with knowledge, And a fool spreads out folly.
17 Ìránṣẹ́ búburú bọ́ sínú ìdààmú ṣùgbọ́n aṣojú olóòtítọ́ mú ìwòsàn wá.
A wicked messenger falls into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
18 Ẹni tí ó kọ ìbáwí yóò di tálákà yóò sì rí ìtìjú, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó gbọ́ ìbáwí ni yóò rí ọlá.
Whoever is refusing instruction—poverty and shame, And whoever is observing reproof is honored.
19 Ìfẹ́ tí a mú ṣẹ dùn mọ́ ọkàn ṣùgbọ́n ìríra ni fún aṣiwèrè láti kúrò nínú ibi.
A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [Is] to turn from evil.
20 Ẹni tí ó ń bá ọlọ́gbọ́n rìn yóò gbọ́n ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń bá aláìgbọ́n kẹ́gbẹ́ ń pa ara rẹ̀ lára.
Whoever is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffers evil.
21 Òsì a máa ta ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ọrọ̀ ni èrè fún olódodo.
Evil pursues sinners, And good repays the righteous.
22 Ènìyàn rere a máa fi ogún sílẹ̀ fún àwọn ọmọ ọmọ rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n, a kó ọrọ̀ àwọn tó dẹ́ṣẹ̀ pamọ́ fún àwọn olódodo.
A good man causes sons’ sons to inherit, And the sinner’s wealth [is] laid up for the righteous.
23 Ilẹ̀ ẹ tálákà le è mú ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ìre oko wá ṣùgbọ́n àìṣòdodo gbá gbogbo rẹ̀ lọ.
Abundance of food—the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
24 Ẹni tí ó fa ọwọ́ ìbáwí sẹ́yìn kórìíra ọmọ rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó fẹ́ràn ọmọ rẹ̀ yóò máa bá a wí.
Whoever is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoever is loving him has hurried his discipline.
25 Olódodo jẹ́wọ́ títí ó fi tẹ́ ọkàn rẹ̀ lọ́rùn ṣùgbọ́n ebi yóò máa pa ikùn ènìyàn búburú.
The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacks!
