< Proverbs 12 >
1 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó fẹ́ ẹ̀kọ́ fẹ́ ìmọ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó kórìíra ìbáwí jẹ́ aláìgbọ́n.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but the one who hates correction is stupid.
2 Ènìyàn rere gba ojúrere lọ́dọ̀ Olúwa ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn ètè búburú ni yóò dá lẹ́bi.
Yahweh gives favor to a good man, but he condemns a man who makes evil plans.
3 A kò lè fi ẹsẹ̀ ènìyàn múlẹ̀ nípa ìwà búburú ṣùgbọ́n a kò le è fa olódodo tu.
A person cannot be established by wickedness, but righteous people cannot be uprooted.
4 Aya oníwà rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n aya adójútini dàbí inú egungun rẹ̀ jẹrà.
A worthy wife is her husband's crown, but she who brings shame is like a disease that rots his bones.
5 Èrò àwọn olódodo tọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ìgbìmọ̀ ènìyàn búburú jẹ́ ẹ̀tàn.
The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
6 Ọ̀rọ̀ ènìyàn búburú lúgọ de ẹ̀jẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rọ̀ àwọn olódodo gbà wọ́n là.
The words of wicked people are an ambush waiting for a chance to kill, but the words of the upright keep them safe.
7 A ṣí àwọn ènìyàn búburú ní ìdí, wọn kò sì sí mọ́; ṣùgbọ́n ilé olódodo dúró ṣinṣin.
Wicked people are overthrown and they are gone, but the house of the righteous person will stand.
8 A ń yín ènìyàn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìwọ̀n ọgbọ́n rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ènìyàn ọlọ́pọlọ wúruwùru ni a kẹ́gàn.
A person is praised by how much wisdom he has, but the one who makes perverse choices is despised.
9 Ó sàn kí a má jẹ́ ènìyàn pàtàkì kí a sì ní ìránṣẹ́ ju kí a díbọ́n pé a jẹ́ ẹni pàtàkì láìní oúnjẹ.
Better to have an unimportant position—only being a servant— than to brag about your importance but have no food.
10 Olódodo ènìyàn ń ṣe aájò ohun tí àwọn ohun ọ̀sìn rẹ̀ nílò, ṣùgbọ́n ìyọ́nú àwọn ènìyàn búburú, ìkà ni.
The righteous person cares about the needs of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.
11 Ẹni tí ó bá dá oko yóò ní ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ oúnjẹ, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń lépa òjìji lásán làsàn kò gbọ́n.
The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases after worthless projects has no sense.
12 Ènìyàn búburú ń fẹ́ ìkógun àwọn ènìyàn ìkà ṣùgbọ́n gbòǹgbò olódodo ń gbilẹ̀.
The wicked person desires what evil men have stolen from others, but the fruit of righteous people comes from themselves.
13 A mú ènìyàn búburú nípasẹ̀ ọ̀rọ̀ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n olódodo bọ́ kúrò lọ́wọ́ ìdààmú.
An evil person is trapped by his wicked talk, but the righteous person escapes from trouble.
14 Láti inú èso rẹ̀, ènìyàn kún fún onírúurú ohun rere bí iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ rẹ̀ ti ń pín in lérè dájúdájú.
From the fruit of his words a person is filled with good things, just as the work of his hands rewards him.
15 Ọ̀nà aláìgbọ́n dára lójú ara rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ọlọ́gbọ́n ènìyàn a máa gba ìmọ̀ràn.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
16 Aláìgbọ́n ènìyàn fi ìbínú un rẹ̀ hàn lẹ́sẹ̀kẹsẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n olóye ènìyàn fojú fo ìyànjẹ.
A fool shows his anger at once, but one who ignores an insult is prudent.
17 Ẹni tí ó jẹ́ ajẹ́rìí òtítọ́ jẹ́rìí ohun tí ojú rẹ̀ rí ṣùgbọ́n ajẹ́rìí èké máa ń parọ́.
The one who speaks the truth says what is right, but a false witness tells lies.
18 Ọ̀rọ̀ tí a kò rò jinlẹ̀ máa ń gún ni bí ọ̀kọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ahọ́n ọlọ́gbọ́n ń mú ìwòsàn wá.
The words of one who speaks rashly are like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
19 Ètè tí ń ṣọ òtítọ́ yóò wà láéláé ṣùgbọ́n ahọ́n tí ń parọ́ kì í tọ́jọ́.
Truthful lips last forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment.
20 Ẹ̀tàn wà nínú ọkàn àwọn tí ń pète búburú ṣùgbọ́n ayọ̀ wà fún àwọn tí ń mú kí àlàáfíà gbilẹ̀.
There is deceit in the hearts of those who plan to do evil, but joy comes to the advisors of peace.
21 Ibi kì í ṣubú lu olódodo rárá ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn búburú gba ìpín ìyọnu tiwọn.
No ill comes on the righteous person, but wicked people are filled with difficulties.
22 Olúwa kórìíra ètè tí ń parọ́ ṣùgbọ́n ó ní inú dídùn sí àwọn olóòtítọ́.
Yahweh hates lying lips, but those who live faithfully are his delight.
23 Ènìyàn olóye fi ìmọ̀ rẹ̀ pamọ́ sínú ara rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ọkàn ènìyàn búburú ń gbé ìwà òmùgọ̀ jáde.
A prudent man conceals his knowledge, but the heart of fools shouts out folly.
24 Ọwọ́ àìṣọ̀lẹ yóò jẹ ọba ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀lẹ ṣíṣe a máa yọrí sí ẹrú ṣíṣe.
The hand of the diligent will rule, but lazy people will be put to forced labor.
25 Ìbànújẹ́ ní ọkàn ènìyàn ní dorí rẹ̀ kodò ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rọ̀ rere a máa mú kó yọ̀.
Anxiety in the heart of a person weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
26 Olódodo ènìyàn máa ń ṣọ́ra láti dọ́rẹ̀ẹ́ ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀nà àwọn ènìyàn búburú ń mú wọn ṣìnà.
The righteous person is a guide for his friend, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 Ọ̀lẹ ènìyàn kò sun ẹran tí ó pa lóko ọdẹ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí kì í ṣe ọ̀lẹ máa ń díwọ̀n ohun ìní rẹ̀.
Lazy people would not roast their own game, but the diligent man will obtain precious wealth.
28 Ní ọ̀nà àwọn olódodo ni ìyè wà ní ọ̀nà náà ni àìkú wà.
Those who walk in the right way find life and in its path there is no death.
