< Proverbs 11 >
1 Olúwa kórìíra òsùwọ̀n èké, ṣùgbọ́n òsùwọ̀n òtítọ́ jẹ́ inú dídùn un rẹ̀.
False balances are an abomination before the Lord: but a just weight is acceptable to him.
2 Nígbà tí ìgbéraga bá dé, nígbà náà ni ìdójútì dé, ṣùgbọ́n pẹ̀lú ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ ni ọgbọ́n ń wá.
Wherever pride enters, there will be also disgrace: but the mouth of the lowly meditates wisdom.
3 Òtítọ́ inú ẹni dídúró ṣinṣin ń ṣe amọ̀nà rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n aláìṣòótọ́ yóò parun nípasẹ̀ àìṣòótọ́ wọn.
When a just man dies he leaves regret: but the destruction of the ungodly is speedy, and causes joy.
4 Ọ̀rọ̀ kò níláárí ní ọjọ́ ìbínú, ṣùgbọ́n òdodo a máa gbani lọ́wọ́ ikú.
[Possessions will not profit in a day of wrath, but righteousness will deliver from death. ]
5 Òdodo aláìlẹ́gàn ṣe ọ̀nà tààrà fún wọn, ṣùgbọ́n ìwà búburú ènìyàn búburú yóò fà á lulẹ̀.
Righteousness traces out blameless paths: but ungodliness encounters unjust dealing.
6 Òdodo ẹni ìdúró ṣinṣin gbà wọ́n là, ṣùgbọ́n ìdẹ̀kùn ètè búburú mú aláìṣòótọ́.
The righteousness of upright men delivers them: but transgressors are caught in their own destruction.
7 Nígbà tí ènìyàn búburú bá kú, ìrètí rẹ̀ a parun; gbogbo ohun tó ń fojú ṣọ́nà fún nípa agbára rẹ̀ já ṣófo.
At the death of a just man his hope does not perish: but the boast of the ungodly perishes.
8 A gba olódodo kúrò lọ́wọ́ ibi dípò o rẹ̀, ibi wá sórí ènìyàn búburú.
A righteous man escapes from a snare, and the ungodly man is delivered up in his place.
9 Aláìmọ Ọlọ́run fi ẹnu rẹ̀ ba aládùúgbò rẹ̀ jẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n nípasẹ̀ ìmọ̀ olódodo sá àsálà.
In the mouth of ungodly men is a snare to citizens: but the understanding of righteous men is prosperous.
10 Nígbà tí olódodo ń gbèrú, ìlú a yọ̀; nígbà tí ènìyàn búburú parun, ariwo ayọ̀ gba ìlú kan.
In the prosperity of righteous men a city prospers: but by the mouth of ungodly men it is overthrown.
11 Nípasẹ̀ ìbùkún, olódodo a gbé ìlú ga: ṣùgbọ́n nípasẹ̀ ẹnu ènìyàn búburú, a pa ìlú run.
[At the blessing of the upright a city shall be exalted. ]
12 Ẹni tí kò gbọ́n fojú kékeré wo aládùúgbò rẹ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó ní òye pa ẹnu rẹ̀ mọ́.
A man void of understanding sneers at [his fellow] citizens: but a sensible man is quiet.
13 Olófòófó tú àṣírí ìkọ̀kọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tó ṣe é gbẹ́kẹ̀lé a pa àṣírí mọ́.
A double-tongued man discloses the [secret] counsels of an assembly: but he that is faithful in spirit conceals matters.
14 Nítorí àìní ìtọ́sọ́nà orílẹ̀-èdè ṣubú ṣùgbọ́n nípasẹ̀ ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ olùbádámọ̀ràn ìṣẹ́gun dájú.
They that have no guidance fall like leaves: but in much counsel there is safety.
15 Ẹni tí ó ṣe onígbọ̀wọ́ fún àlejò yóò rí ìyọnu, ṣùgbọ́n ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó kọ̀ láti ṣe onígbọ̀wọ́ yóò wà láìléwu.
A bad man does harm wherever he meets a just man: and he hates the sound of safety.
16 Obìnrin oníwà rere gba ìyìn ṣùgbọ́n alágbára aláìbìkítà ènìyàn gba ọrọ̀ nìkan.
A gracious wife brings glory to her husband: but a woman hating righteousness is a theme of dishonour. The slothful come to lack: but the diligent support themselves with wealth.
17 Ènìyàn rere ń ṣe ara rẹ̀ lóore ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn ìkà ń mú ìyọnu wá sórí ara rẹ̀.
A merciful man does good to his own soul: but the merciless destroys his own body.
18 Ènìyàn búburú gba èrè ìtànjẹ ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tó fúnrúgbìn òdodo yóò gba èrè tó dájú.
An ungodly man performs unrighteous works: but the seed of the righteous is a reward of truth.
19 Olódodo tòótọ́ rí ìyè ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń lépa ibi lé e sí ibi ikú ara rẹ̀.
A righteous son is born for life: but the persecution of the ungodly [ends] in death.
20 Olúwa kórìíra àwọn ènìyàn ọlọ́kàn búburú ṣùgbọ́n ó ní inú dídùn sí àwọn tí ọ̀nà wọn kò lábùkù.
Perverse ways are an abomination to the Lord: but all they that are blameless in their ways are acceptable to him.
21 Mọ èyí dájú pé, ènìyàn búburú kì yóò lọ láìjìyà, ṣùgbọ́n àwọn olódodo yóò lọ láìjìyà.
He that unjustly strikes hands shall not be unpunished: but he that sows righteousness he shall receive a faithful reward.
22 Bí òrùka wúrà ní imú ẹlẹ́dẹ̀ ni arẹwà obìnrin tí kò lọ́gbọ́n.
As an ornament in a swine's snout, so is beauty to an ill-minded women.
23 Ìfẹ́ inú olódodo yóò yọrí sí ohun rere ṣùgbọ́n ìrètí ènìyàn búburú yóò yọrí sí ìbínú.
All the desire of the righteous is good: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
24 Ènìyàn kan ń fún ni lọ́fẹ̀ẹ́, síbẹ̀ ó ń ní sí i; òmíràn ń háwọ́ ju bí ó ti yẹ ṣùgbọ́n ó di aláìní.
There are [some] who scatter their own, and make it more: and there are [some] also who gather, [yet] have less.
25 Ẹni tí ń ṣoore yóò máa gbèrú sí i; ẹni tí ó tu ẹlòmíràn lára yóò ní ìtura.
Every sincere soul is blessed: but a passionate man is not graceful.
26 Àwọn ènìyàn a ṣẹ́ èpè lé ènìyàn tí ń kó oúnjẹ pamọ́ ṣùgbọ́n ìbùkún a máa wá sórí ẹni tí ó ṣetán láti tà.
May he that hoards corn leave it to the nation: but blessing be on the head of him that gives [it].
27 Ẹni tí ń lépa ohun rere yóò rí ohun rere ṣùgbọ́n ibi yóò dé bá ẹni tí ń lépa ibi.
He that devises good [counsels] seeks good favour: but [as for] him that seeks after evil, [evil] shall overtake him.
28 Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ọrọ̀ rẹ̀ yóò ṣubú; ṣùgbọ́n olódodo yóò gbilẹ̀ bí i koríko tútù.
He that trusts in wealth shall fall; but he that helps righteous men shall rise.
29 Ẹni tí ó ń mú ìdààmú dé bá ìdílé rẹ̀ yóò jogún afẹ́fẹ́ lásán aláìgbọ́n yóò sì máa ṣe ìránṣẹ́ fún ọlọ́gbọ́n.
He that deals not graciously with his own house shall inherit the wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise man.
30 Èso òdodo ni igi ìyè ẹni tí ó sì jèrè ọkàn jẹ́ ọlọ́gbọ́n.
Out of the fruit of righteousness grows a tree of life; but the souls of transgressors are cut off before their time.
31 Bí àwọn olódodo bá gba ìpín wọn lórí ilẹ̀ ayé mélòó mélòó ni ènìyàn búburú àti àwọn tó dẹ́ṣẹ̀!
If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
