< Numbers 31 >

1 Olúwa sọ fún Mose pé,
Yahweh spoke to Moses/me and said,
2 “Gbẹ̀san lára àwọn Midiani fún àwọn ọmọ Israẹli. Lẹ́yìn ìgbà náà a ó kó ọ jọ pẹ̀lú àwọn ènìyàn rẹ.”
“Before you die, [tell the] Israeli people that they should (pay back/get revenge on) the Midian people-group for what they did to you.”
3 Mose sì sọ fún àwọn ènìyàn pé, “Ẹ wọ ogun fún àwọn kan nínú yín láti lọ da ojú ìjà kọ àwọn ọmọ Midiani láti gba ẹ̀san Olúwa lára wọn.
So Moses/I said to the people, “Get some men prepared for battle. Yahweh will enable them to (pay back/get revenge on) the Midian people-group [for what they did to us].
4 Rán ẹgbẹ̀rún ọmọ-ogun láti ẹ̀yà kọ̀ọ̀kan ní Israẹli.”
Select 1,000 men from each tribe to fight.”
5 Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n sì yan nínú àwọn ẹgbẹẹgbẹ̀rún ènìyàn Israẹli, ẹgbẹ̀rún ènìyàn láti inú ẹ̀yà kọ̀ọ̀kan, ẹgbàá mẹ́fà ènìyàn tí ó wọ ìhámọ́ra ogun.
So 12,000 men prepared for fighting in the battle, 1,000 from each tribe.
6 Mose rán wọn lọ sí ogun, ẹgbẹ̀rún láti ẹ̀yà kọ̀ọ̀kan pẹ̀lú Finehasi ọmọ Eleasari, ti ó jẹ́ àlùfáà, ti òun ti ohun èlò ibi mímọ́ àti ìpè wọ̀n-ọn-nì ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀.
When Moses/I sent them to the battle, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, went with them. He took with him some of the things from the Sacred Tent and the trumpets that would be blown to give the signal [to start the battle].
7 Wọ́n dojú ìjà kọ Midiani gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pàṣẹ fún Mose, kí wọn sì pa gbogbo wọn.
The Israeli men fought the soldiers from the Midian people-group, as Yahweh had told Moses/me to tell them to do, and they killed every man from the Midian people-group.
8 Wọ́n sì pa àwọn ọba Midiani pẹ̀lú: àwọn ìyókù tí wọ́n pa lára wọn ni Efi, Rekemu, Suri àti Huri, àti Reba: ọba Midiani márùn-ún, wọ́n sì fi idà pa Balaamu ọmọ Beori.
Among those whom they killed were the five kings of the Midian people-group—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba. They also killed with a sword Balaam, the son of Beor.
9 Àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sì mú gbogbo obìnrin Midiani ní ìgbèkùn àti àwọn ọmọ kékeré wọn, wọ́n sì kó gbogbo ohun ọ̀sìn wọn àti gbogbo agbo ẹran wọn àti gbogbo ẹrù wọn.
They captured all the women and children of the Midian people-group and took away their cattle, their flocks of sheep, and herds of goats, and all their other possessions.
10 Wọ́n finá jó gbogbo ìlú wọn àti ibùdó wọn.
Then they burned down all the houses in the towns and villages where the people of the Midian people-group lived,
11 Wọ́n sì kó gbogbo ìní wọn, àti ènìyàn àti ẹran.
but they took home with them all the women and children and animals and possessions.
12 Wọ́n sì kó gbogbo ohun tí wọ́n bàjẹ́ àti ènìyàn àti ẹran wá sọ́dọ̀ Mose àti Eleasari àlùfáà, àti sọ́dọ̀ ìjọ àwọn ọmọ Israẹli ní ibùdó àgọ́ ní pẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ Moabu tí ń bẹ lẹ́gbẹ̀ẹ́ Jordani létí Jeriko.
They brought all these to Eliezer and Moses/me, and to the rest of the Israeli people who were at their/our camp on the plains where the Moab people-group lived, near the Jordan River, across from Jericho.
13 Mose, Eleasari àlùfáà àti gbogbo olórí ìgbèríko lọ láti lọ bá wọn ní ìta ibùdó.
Eleazar and all the leaders of the people and Moses/I went outside the camp to greet/meet with them.
14 Inú bí Mose sí àwọn olórí ọmọ-ogun, pẹ̀lú àwọn olórí ẹgbẹẹgbẹ̀rún àti olórí ọ̀rọ̀ọ̀rún tí wọ́n ti ogun dé.
But Moses/I was angry with some of the men who had returned from the battle. He/I was angry with the army officers and the men who were commanders of 1,000 men and those who were commanders of 100 men.
15 Mose sì béèrè wí pé, “Ẹ̀yin ha dá gbogbo àwọn obìnrin sí bí?
He/I asked them, “Why did you allow the women to live [RHQ]?
16 Àwọn ni wọ́n tẹ̀lé ìmọ̀ràn Balaamu, àwọn ní ó ṣe okùnfà yíyí àwọn ọ̀mọ̀ Israẹli padà kúrò ní ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa nínú èyí tí ó ṣẹlẹ̀ ní Peori, níbi tí àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn ti kọlu ìjọ Olúwa.
They are the ones who did what Balaam suggested and urged/persuaded our people to worship Baal [instead of Yahweh]. As a result, Yahweh caused a plague to strike his people while they were at Peor.
17 Nísinsin yìí, pa gbogbo ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin àti àwọn obìnrin tí ó ti súnmọ́ ọkùnrin,
So, now you must kill all the boys of the Midian people-group, and also kill all the women who have had sex [EUP] with any man.
18 ṣùgbọ́n kí o dá obìnrin tí kò bá tí ì súnmọ́ ọkùnrin sí fún ara yín.
Spare only the girls who are virgins [EUP]. You can keep them to be your [wives or your slaves].
19 “Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá ti pa ènìyàn tàbí fọwọ́ kan ẹni tí a pa gbọdọ̀ dúró ní ìta ibùdó àgọ́ fún ọjọ́ méje. Ní ọjọ́ kẹta àti ọjọ́ keje ẹ gbọdọ̀ ya ara yín àti ẹni tí ẹ kó lẹ́rú sí mímọ́.
All of you who have killed someone or touched the corpse of someone who was killed [in the battle] must stay outside the camp for seven days. On the third day and on the seventh day, you must [perform the ritual to] cause you and those whom you have captured to become acceptable to God again.
20 Kí ẹ̀yin kí ó ya aṣọ yín sí mímọ́ àti gbogbo ohun tí a fi awọ ṣe àti gbogbo iṣẹ́ irun ewúrẹ́ àti ohun tí a fi igi ṣe.”
You must also wash your clothes and anything [that you took to the battle] that is made of leather or goat’s hair or wood.”
21 Eleasari àlùfáà sì wí fún àwọn olórí ogun náà pé, “Èyí ní ìlànà òfin tí Olúwa fi lélẹ̀ ní àṣẹ fún Mose.
Then Eleazar said to the soldiers who had returned from the battle, “This is what Yahweh has instructed Moses:
22 Kìkì i wúrà, fàdákà, idẹ, irin, idẹ àti òjé.
You must put into a fire any gold or silver or bronze or iron or tin or lead things [that you brought back from the battle].
23 Ohunkóhun tí ó lè la iná ni kí ẹ̀yin ó mú la iná, nígbà náà ni yóò jẹ́ mímọ́. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ yóò fi omi ìyàsímímọ́ sọ ọ́ di mímọ́. Àti gbogbo ohun tí kò lè la iná kọjá ni kí a mú la inú omi.
Put everything that will not burn into the fire, and then they will be acceptable for you to use. But also sprinkle those things with the water that causes things and people to become acceptable to God. The things that would burn [if you put them] in a fire, sprinkle them with that water.
24 Ní ọjọ́ keje, ẹ fọ aṣọ yín, ẹ̀yin yóò sì mọ́, nígbà náà ní ẹ̀yin yóò lè wọ inú ibùdó àjọ.”
On the seventh day, wash your clothes, and then you will become acceptable to God again. After you do that, you may return to the camp.”
25 Olúwa sọ fún Mose pé,
Yahweh also said to Moses/me,
26 “Ìwọ àti Eleasari àlùfáà àti àwọn olórí ilé baba ìjọ ni kí o ka iye àwọn ènìyàn àti ẹranko tí a kó ní ìgbèkùn.
“Tell Eleazar and the leaders of the family groups that they must write down a list of all the goods, the women, and the animals that were captured [in the battle].
27 Pín ohun ìní àti ìkógun náà láàrín àwọn ọmọ-ogun náà tí ó kópa nínú ogun náà àti láàrín gbogbo ìjọ.
Then they must divide all those things, half given to the men who fought in the battle and the other half given to the rest of the people.
28 Kí o sì gba ìdá ti Olúwa lọ́wọ́ àwọn ológun tí wọn jáde lọ sí ogun náà, ọ̀kan nínú ẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀ta nínú àwọn ènìyàn àti nínú màlúù àti nínú kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́, àti nínú agbo ẹran.
From the men who fought in the battle, take one from every 500 people and from every 500 cattle and donkeys and sheep, to be a tax for me.
29 Gba ìdá yìí lára ààbọ̀ ìpín tiwọn, kí o sì fún Eleasari àlùfáà, fún ẹbọ ìgbésókè Olúwa.
Take these things to Eleazar to (be my share/belong to me).
30 Lára ààbọ̀ ti Israẹli, yan ọ̀kan kúrò nínú àádọ́ta, yálà ènìyàn, ẹran ọ̀sìn, kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́, àgùntàn, ewúrẹ́ tàbí ẹ̀yà ẹranko mìíràn. Kó wọn fún àwọn Lefi, tí ó dúró fún olùtọ́jú àgọ́ Olúwa.”
And from the half that belongs to the ordinary people, take one item from every 50. That includes people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, and other animals. Give those things to the descendants of Levi who take care of my Sacred Tent.”
31 Nígbà náà Mose àti Eleasari àlùfáà ṣe gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pàṣẹ fún Mose.
So Eleazar and Moses/I did what Yahweh commanded.
32 Èrè tí ó kù lára ìkógun tí àwọn ọmọ-ogun kó jẹ́, ọ̀kẹ́ mẹ́rìnlélọ́gbọ̀n ó dín ẹgbẹ̀ẹ́dọ́gbọ̀n àgùntàn.
There were 675,000 sheep, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys, and 32,000 virgins that they had captured from the Midian people-group.
33 Ẹgbàá méjìléláàádọ́rin màlúù
34 ọ̀kẹ́ mẹ́ta ó lé ẹgbẹ̀rin kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́,
35 pẹ̀lú obìnrin ẹgbàá mẹ́rìndínlógún, ni kò ní ìbálòpọ̀ pẹ̀lú ọkùnrin rí.
36 Ìpín ààbọ̀ àwọn tí ó jáde lọ sí ogun sì jẹ́: ẹgbàá méjìdínláàádọ́sàn-án ó lé lẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀jọ àgùntàn.
The men who fought in the battle took 337,000 sheep [from the battle],
37 Tí ìdá ti Olúwa sì jẹ́ ẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀rin ó dín mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dọ́gbọ̀n àgùntàn;
and they gave 675 of them to Yahweh.
38 ẹgbọrọ màlúù jẹ́ ẹgbàá méjìdínlógún, tí ìdá Olúwa sì jẹ́ méjìléláàádọ́rin;
They took 36,000 cattle and gave 72 of them to Yahweh.
39 kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún ó lé lẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀ta, tí ìdá ti Olúwa sì jẹ́ mọ́kànlélọ́gọ́ta.
They took 30,500 donkeys, and they gave 61 of them to Yahweh.
40 Àwọn ènìyàn sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́jọ ìdá ti Olúwa sì jẹ́ méjìlélọ́gbọ̀n.
They took 16,000 virgins, and they dedicated 32 of them to Yahweh.
41 Mose fi ìdá náà fún Eleasari, àlùfáà gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìdá ti Olúwa, gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pa á láṣẹ fún Mose.
Moses/I gave to Eleazar all [the animals] that had been given to Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded.
42 Ààbọ̀ tí ó jẹ́ ti àwọn ọmọ Israẹli, tí Mose yà sọ́tọ̀ kúrò lára àwọn ọkùnrin tí ó ja ogun.
Moses/I separated what those who had fought in the battle received from what the other people received. The people had taken 337,500 sheep, 36,000 cattle, 30,500 donkeys, and 16,000 virgins,
43 Ààbọ̀ tí ìjọ jẹ́ ẹgbàá méjìdínláàádọ́sàn-án ó lé lẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀jọ àgùntàn,
44 pẹ̀lú ẹgbàá méjìdínlógún màlúù
45 tí kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún ó lé lẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀ta.
46 Àwọn ènìyàn sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́jọ.
47 Lára ààbọ̀ ti àwọn ọmọ Israẹli, Mose yan ọ̀kan lára àádọ́ta ènìyàn àti ẹranko gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pa á láṣẹ fún un. Ó sì fi wọ́n fún àwọn ọmọ Lefi, tí ń ṣe olùtọ́jú àgọ́ Olúwa.
From what the people received, Moses/I took one from every 50 items and dedicated them to Yahweh. That included animals and people. As Yahweh commanded, he/I gave them all to the descendants of Levi who took care of the Sacred Tent.
48 Pẹ̀lú àwọn olórí tí ó wà lórí ẹgbẹẹgbẹ̀rin ogun náà, àti àwọn balógun ọ̀rọ̀ọ̀rún wá sọ́dọ̀ Mose.
Then the army officers and those who commanded 1,000 men and those who commanded 100 men came to Moses/me.
49 Wọ́n sì sọ fún un pé, “Ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ti ka àwọn ọmọ-ogun náà tí ó wà lábẹ́ ìtọ́jú wa, kò sì sí ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan tó dín.
They said, “We, who are your servants, have counted the soldiers whom we command, and [we found that] none of them (is missing/has been killed).
50 Nítorí náà làwa ṣe mú ọrẹ ẹbọ wá fún Olúwa, gbogbo ọrẹ wíwà tí a ní, wúrà, ẹ̀wọ̀n, àti júfù, àti òrùka-àmi, àti òrùka etí, àti ìlẹ̀kẹ̀ láti fi ṣe ètùtù fún ọkàn an wa níwájú Olúwa.”
So [to thank Yahweh for that], we have brought to him a gift of the gold items that we found [after the battle]: Gold arm bands and bracelets and rings and earrings and necklaces. This will enable us to be forgiven for our sins.”
51 Mose àti Eleasari àlùfáà, gba wúrà náà lọ́wọ́ wọn pẹ̀lú gbogbo ohun iṣẹ́ ọ̀ṣọ́.
So Eleazar and Moses/I accepted the gold items that they brought.
52 Gbogbo wúrà tí àwọn balógun ẹgbẹẹgbẹ̀rún àti àwọn balógun ọ̀rọ̀ọ̀rún mú wá fún Mose àti Eleasari, èyí tí ó jẹ́ ẹbọ ìgbésókè fún Olúwa jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́jọ ó lé lẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀rin ó lé àádọ́ta ṣékélì.
The total of it weighed about (420 pounds/190 kg.).
53 Nítorí ológun kọ̀ọ̀kan ti kó ẹrù fún ara rẹ̀.
Each soldier had taken these things for himself.
54 Mose àti Eleasari àlùfáà gba wúrà náà lọ́wọ́ àwọn balógun ẹgbẹẹgbẹ̀rún àti lọ́wọ́ balógun ọ̀rọ̀ọ̀rún wọ́n sì ko wá sínú àgọ́ ìpàdé fún ìrántí àwọn Israẹli níwájú Olúwa.
Eleazar and Moses/I accepted these gold items from these commanders and put them in the Sacred Tent to remind the Israeli people about how Yahweh [had helped them defeat the Midian people-group].
